Hey y'all, I just made a patreon page so you can support the channel (some of my friends are helping me now and I want to be able to pay them).
It's made to be a sort of ironic cult. You should join us:)

hello! so there's a video recommendation that i have in store. my dad introduced me to it. there's this weird episode of this kids show called "the adventures of mark twaine" and in the episode, satan is featured, and they make this very unsettling claymation thing where the kids make these clay figures. satan animates them and gives them life and then kills them in horrible ways in front of the children. it's just super weird, and don't forget this aired on TV for kids. just thought i would share this with you. the episodes on yt by the way. hope you cover this topic!
Let me get my shit in order and I'll happily support you
Hearing Dante's "Inferno" referred to as fan-fiction made me laugh way harder than should be allowed.
Same
One of my friends said it was their favorite joke I've ever done lol
@@danielprofeta My highschool English teacher made the same joke. Dante definitely would have been a fanfic writer
It technically checks all the necessary requirements
Zero Punctuation made that joke even earlier
I feel like not enough people give Over the Garden Wall the credit it deserves.
Like people talk about dark kids shows a lot, like Zim or Courage the Cowardly Dog. But not this show often.
In my opinion dark stories for kids are justified if it has a good ending , this was why is loved puss in boots 2 so much , It had dark moments but it had a good ending
Invader Zim and Courage and Ren and Stimpy all seem more obvious with their "this is weird" packaging. Where OtGW is a lot more subtle. Plus the feeling of OtGW is a lot more gentle imo
@@danielprofeta Very true.
This show has a pretty big cult following and the people who love it REALLY love it
Saul Threadman is in the back forcing him to make videos. Blink twice if you are in danger Daniel.
He blinked on stream!!
You have it backwards, i am holding the souls of millions hostage inside the puppet
I love this format of media and I really hope the category of animation makes a huge comeback. Kids shows which are surprisingly mature. Not afraid of dark topics or difficult aspects of life. People have found such great ways to convey such profoundly difficult situations, life lessons, fears, etc. I just love this form of storytelling, visual expression. Our world needs more animation
Infinity Train was almost as good (R.I.P.)
Agreed
1:07 the Cthulhu things multiplying is truly perfect
One day I'll be overtaken. And in my place will stand the Great Old One itself.
@@danielprofeta I await that day
Hearing Dante’s inferno describes as fan fiction is outrageously funny to me
Such a great novel, but yeah. Self insert fanfiction with a bunch of random characters from other sources tossed in.
I really loved this show. It gives me much more of a book kid vibe than a lot of toons. Much more weird stuff in a kids labeled book versus a cartoon sometimes. On a side note, I'd love to see you cover The midnight gospel.
I actually still haven't seen Midnight Gospel, I take it I should?
If you are up for deep talks while adventuring through a Superjail style universe? absolutely. One episode alone has so much going on animation wise its insane.
Holy shi , just holy shi
Ive seen so many of these vids talking abt THE DARKEST KIDS SHOW but this one actually gave me goosebumps like thats fvked up 💀
We don't mess around on this channel (if you're new, welcome, broadcast day is here and your time has finally arrived. See you around.)
@@danielprofeta no I was a big fan of your series on jackstauber , its just that I was surprised to see sth actually distrusting to me 💀
I've watched this show, and man, i feel bad for Greg. He seems to be so childish and too kind and suck a dork to even realize anything the whole story, i just love how amazing the plot is, the slight twists and turns, how they reveal and lut together the truth is just amazing and its such a great show.
Edit: And man, i never knew what the beast actually looked like, and geez, he's creepy. I. I'm glad the way they revealed him was in that way cause i know kids would be traumatized seeing the beast.
At least Greg retained his general innocence and managed to not let the unknown change him
@@danielprofeta yeah
Glad to see someone talking about this show, it’s one of my favorites
I'm glad you stopped by to join me on my ramblings!
Good on ye for bringing up this show to talk about!
Overcoming fear is a never-ending struggle that takes all kinds of shapes from person to person, and lamentably, some folks let them be ruled by their own lantern-demons. It's interesting how Wirt frequently complains that Greg needs to grow up and face the reality of their issues, but the Wirt's selfishness and default pessimism are no better grounded in reality.
May we all overcome our lantern demons.
Small correction, but the bodies of the lost children don’t morph into edelwood trees, but rather the trees grow around them and eventually absorb them. It’s the reason why Wirt was able to escape the branches growing around him in his sleep - if he was metamorphosing into one, he wouldn’t be able to free himself or Greg from the branches.
That makes sense, my bad
@@danielprofeta No worries.
OTGW is my comfort show. Spooks and all. Glad to see my favorite creator cover my favorite show :)
AAAH I LOVE OTGW SO MUCH! Who’s your favorite character
@@Ineffable_gremlin for comfort, definitely Greg, for relatability, Wirt, and for general favorite, the frog (I'm not naming all his names so we'll just use his last: Jason Funderburger)
@@CookE463 I’d tell you my favorite characters but you’ve literally just explained my exact take on the question
@@Ineffable_gremlin teehee. We're a hive mind in this cul- I mean... Community 🥰
@@CookE463 I love being part of the cul- legion
I love this miniseries so damn much. I watched it with my little cousin when it first premiered, and it felt so different than anything on at the time. It was like a throwback to the weird old holiday specials, all rolled up in this weird Grimms fairytale vibe. I still make a point to rewatch this every fall. It's like watching Detective Heart of America: The Final Freedom every fourth of July. It's just mandatory seasonal viewing now...and Greg being best character definitely isn't opinion. Thems just facts.
That's a rock fact!
genuinely when i first watched this show i thoght that the beast was organs instead of wood and was so confused how they allowed it in the show
Damn
I remember watching this when i was around five years old, i was absolutely terrified but couldn't look away, ten years later and its still my favorite
I can't imagine seeing it that young haha
A stream from Daniel and a video all on a Friday, wow.
It’s a good day
We're so back:)
Dude, i love over the garden wall so much. It is such a comfort show for me, even though its not exactly comforting- the surreal fantasy vibes just give me a good happy feeling.
The way the unknown is just a limbo the boys are stuck in is just a really cool concept to me and has absolutely inspired a lot of my own artwork and stories. Greg and wirt really remind me of me and my older brother too, even to their personalities. Its a confusing, fucked up show, but i absolutely adore it.
Idk, its just beautiful to me, ill stop my ranting :) Awesome video, sending hugs
Never stop ranting plz, it's a comfort show to me too:)
This was my younger friends favorite show. He described the plot to me and it was horrifying. Which fits perfectly for the Legion cult
It's a pretty fun show lol
great video! Over The Garden Wall is one of my favourite series and i rewatch it yearly. personally, i didn't interpret the edelwood trees as being the lost souls of children specifically, rather anyone who got lost in the woods and fell victim to the beast. a little bit surprised you didn't mention that the residents of the unknown seemingly come from different time periods (and that you don't truly know when it's set until episode 9) which really adds to the feeling that this place is some sort of limbo and these people have been here for a long time.
Had I known how life would pan out, I might not have waited until today to become a high priest.
Welcome to the cult!!
The Beast being made of Aidelwood and the Aidelwood trees being made of kids who lost hope shows that the Beast is made of hopelessness while giving false hope to anyone.
Which all fit into that idea of overcoming fear
Love your take on this. Might have to watch the show now after watching your video.
Please do! It's so good
When i first watched this cartoon at 11 or 12 I thought that it's a nice and cozy show with (imagine this) good ending, that's all. But after I rewatched it in adult age i realised that it's actually not as simple. I enjoy this type of content creators that dive deep into lore of something so thank you for this video!! (I'm new at this channel and it seems like i'm going to stay)
Loved this, it's been a while since I watched this show, I think I might rewatch it now!
Rewatch rewatch rewatch
love your videos man, keep making bangers
Passing through pfp
I will never stop.
me and my friend had a text conversation the other day about living in the pacific northwest. we've both lived in washington state in our childhoods, and we both miss it with every atom of our being. we were talking about it because, me and my family are moving there this autumn. we're moving back to washington, and when i heard this news, i am not kidding when i say i cried tears of joy on the way to school that morning.
out of nowhere my friend said, "maybe this is why we love OTGW so much. it reminds us of the pacific northwest. it reminds us of home." and he couldn't be more right.
i have a memory of walking through my great aunt's neighborhood as a child, with her by my side. i crunched leaves beneath my feet and looked up to see overcast skies and towering pines. and i remember feeling so at peace, moreso that i ever had before. and i also remember walking arounf my neighborhood on halloween night. Wurt's flashback scenes remind me so much of these times that the first time i watched it i teared up.
when i lived in washington, i was right at the age where the most mental explosions take place for most kids- i raved on bikes with friends, i wandered the trail behind my neighborhood looking for my missing cat, and when i looked out the window, i memorized where every light pole was, where every car was placed in their driveways.... it was home to me. and in some twisted way, OTGW is a homage to those unsettling evenings calling my cat's name into the dark, a homage to walking through leaf-flooded paths shrouded by the shade of sleeping trees. OTGW makes me feel at home, no matter how disturbing its story may be, and i think that's why it's wonderful.
I've never watched over the garden wall, or really any content related to it- up until this point at least.
But honestly, I'm looking forward to watching it after seeing this video, although I probably should have listened to the spoiler warning and watched it beforehand.
Nonetheless I'll always have time for disturbing kids shows and cartoons, even if I already know what's going to happen lmao
Please watch it it’s an AMAZING show
@@Ineffable_gremlin I WILL DON'T YOU WORRY lol
Report back when you can, let us know what you think:) It's really easy to get into if you can find it, the entire series is like 1 1/2 hours
@@danielprofeta will do! I'm not exactly sure where to watch it, I only have Netflix right now and New Zealand doesn't always have the best selection for other streaming services. I'd also rather not pirate it. maybe I should try a VPN? We don't have hulu over here lol
I'll do some research, I might just end up buying a DVD copy lol
Will let you know how I found it once I've actually found a way to watch it!:)
Wow, i didnt think you were lying in the first place when you said videos were going to come out faster, BUT GEEZ THAT WAS SO FAST!? RIGHT AFTER A STREAM, TO
In October, November, and most of December I think I uploaded like 1 video lol
In the last 6 weeks I've uploaded 5 main videos. We're aiming for 1 a week on Friday night or Saturday morning
I mean, you could argue that the kids that had fully become trees were already dead long before they'd get turned into kindle, but we'll never know for sure. And even if so, it's still really fukken grim.
A tale dark and grim one might say
13:01 I've never been more convinced to like a video
Feed the lantern...
This show is my favorite thing ever but it scarred me as a kid
I think if I saw it as a child it might have disturbed me too lol
I love when you post, I Wish your channel was bigger.
Wirt is the name of a character in the original Diablo game, and in the second game you can loot his prosthetic leg from his corpse and use it as a weapon called, appropriately enough, Wirt's Leg.
I should play Diablo
Awesome video! Would love to see you do deep dives that are 20 minutes to an hour.
One day maybe I will, these are easier for me to make at the moment
@@danielprofeta wait for the cult to grow, I got you
I'm always glad for kid's media that isn't dumbed down. Kids are smarter than people give them credit for, and they can understand some pretty serious/dark concepts without much trouble.

Every time I watch essays on a great show, I remember that I will never watch them on my own. I just never do. I'd love to, but I never fet to it.
Even if you know the story, I recommend giving it a chance, I love it
@Joeh_ Yeah, you obviously didn't get what I was trying to say.
I know the show is good, that is why it is a sad fact, that I will still not watch it. You may not understand why I can't, but it is a fact.
You should, just for this one!! It's a little over an hour (the entire show) and it's really good:)
i was shook when i seen the beast
Me too 😭
It's such a cool reveal
I hyperfixated on this show for not even joking, nine months, I memorized every song and episode, and I only recently realized on a rewatch "Wait a minute....I'm not normal, am I?" Glad to see people love it as much as I do!!
Y‘know, i wanna a kids cartoon and make 1 single episode the most traumatizing thing ever
Imo this is not really a cartoon for kids as much as something that passes for that but is really a charming horror tale for animation and history nerds.
I mean, it aired on CN and is definitely marketed as a children's show. But as an animation and horror nerd I definitely got a lot of enjoyment out of it.
@@danielprofeta yes but "children's shows" are not always really made with kids in mind. Like, look up Freakazoid. Kids in the 90's were not gonna get references to F-Troop and other old media. Sometimes creators create for themselves. And then there's Infinity Train, which is just pure sci-fi nightmare fuel for anyone of any age.
Over the garden wall is such an underrated show. it’s a shame that there will never be a season 2
I actually like how self contained it is
I just got done watching this whole show with my boyfriend not even an hour ago and was surprised how dark it was
Sigma femcel + that pfp is such a great combination lmao

it's funny how upon watching this youtube immediately recommended me a video about how this show is "The PERFECT Reimagining of Dante's Inferno", which just means whoever made that video has never watched Clerks
This is the best comment lmao
The main creature in this show is nightmare fuel
Only one creature lol? There's like 5 nightmare fuel monstrosities I can think of off the top of my head
This show was so upsetting I only watched it once, and I was in my late 20s at the time.
What made it so upsetting for you? Were there any specific concepts or characters that really bumped up that disturbing factor?
Why are some of the best medias so incredibly underrated? OTGW is arguably one of the best fall shows to ever be made, yet no one ever talks about it.
I remember trying to pause the TV right when the beast is shown with my brothers. It took us like 15 minutes
Now with the power of my enhancing magic, we can look at the one known frame as long as we wish
im a little sad its just called a halloween thing when i feel its so much more than that its by far my favorite animated thing
Over the garden wall is so good and I only saw it fairly recently at the age of 22. But if i had seen this show at any point before the age oflet's say 15 I would have been traumatized for years to come. It's scary as shit sometimes.
I've never heard of this show. Where do you stream it at?
Its on hulu last i checked
Yeah I've never heard of it before either.. I really appreciate it's story telling and use of animation. We need more animation
Currently Hulu, but you can find it other legal places. Or get the physical dvd.
@@danielprofeta I just started watching it with one of my sons last night. We are enjoying it.
@@BillyBulletPewPew Oh awesome:)
where I live, Halloween has none of the fanfare it receives in America, but the fact this show played every Halloween is the reason I love the season despite never doing any of the traditional things like trick or treating and dressing up as ghouls or ghosts. Too old for any of that now, so at least I had something fun that let me appreciate the horrors of the 'Ween
You're never too old to scare people, just gotta get more creative:)

Watched some of this - it is gorgeous.
It really is, very charming show
The artwork was enchanting.
WHERE DO YOU GET THE 4D miner MUSIC
This show scared the shit out of me as a kid
It would have been darker if the woodsman's daughter didn't appear, because then it would imply that he may have unknowingly sacrificed her soul, since children who die hopeless become the trees.
It would have been darker if Greg got beheaded too (i'm kidding, that would have just made me cry)
The trees are literally phantumps.
Huh... I hate that you're correct.
It was kind of confirmed to be inspired by Dante’s Inferno, I say kind of because the creator sounded like he wasn’t allowed to actually Say it but he got very enthusiastic about people insinuating it.
nyone feel like some potatos and molases?
Fun fact: In dante's inferno there is a forest made of people who killed themselves, they are transformed inro trees and are toetured for eternity

The show does fit Dante's Purgatorio. The book about purgatory, after ahving gone through literal hell
I read the book, I personally think it's a stretch to imply the show is a mirror of that story. The whole point of Inferno (imo) would be essentially lost in translation, and I don't think the creators of this show, with all the meticulous craft that went into its conception, would misinterpret such a well known source
@@danielprofeta Purgatorio, the poem that explicitly states that in order to get into heaven you have to work on what kept you there in the first place? That one?

This is a great idea, should be its own show. I've never heard of a show like that.
