    Just recently got into his music. Have to admit it didn’t click with me when I first heard him a few years back but having gone through a lot in the past years, Elliott has become the soundtrack to my life. It’s unbelievable how sincere and warm he comes off while being incredibly honest in his cold and haunting depictions of life. He’s quickly become one of my favorite artists and his music will definitely be the soundtrack to my life for years to come

    I don't know how I really never heard of this guy and the tragic life but was just turned on to him yesterday and I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed your documentary. It was a great length of time to get a better understanding of the story and I think you presented it respectfully. Thank you for your video. RIP Elliott Smith.

    I am so glad you made this video about Elliott. I want to commend you on your research, most other videos contain some pretty glaring errors, but your's is pretty much right on. Elliott Smith was a brilliant songwriter, musician/artist that deserves to be remembered. You hit the nail right on the head about his work being labeled as depressing. It was real...a huge difference. The only thing I find depressing about Elliott Smith is that he went so soon. The circumstances of his death still don't sit right with me, or the L.A coroners office/L.A.P.D. I wish the one person that knows the truth of what really happened would tell us, but I also wish that people would just be good to each other. I'm not holding my breath for either to happen. Great video. Peace.

    I didn’t know how recent this was posted until I ended the video! Thank you for posting it was made really well. Only thing is that the whole Elliott jumping off the cliff thing was not an actual suicide attempt. He was just drunk and running through the woods and fell off the cliff, I think he was running because he was embarrassed of crying in a car with his friends? Plus he was really drunk i think? You should look more into it(:

    A lot of people know of Elliot Smith, and maybe they've heard a few of his songs, they describe him as depressing but there are only a few who understand Elliot Smith as an artist and who really relate to what he expressed. I find so much of his music to be extremely colourful and I know a lot of other fans who do too. Most of the Elliot fans I know would put it as his music covering a wide range of nuanced emotions, including peace, joy, happiness. Maybe the joyful moments were sparse but that just made those moments even better. He spoke about the human experience in a timeless way, and it shows as his music continues to speak to new generations.
    No matter how many people know who he is, or are a fan of his, it still feels so special to each person. We all have our own unique Elliot Smith Journey, memories we relate to songs, times the music has kept us alive. He, and his music, are treasures.
    We won't ever have another Elliot Smith, there was only one. It makes me sad thinking about it as I'm so sure he'd be okay now. Artists are protected so much more, and the mental health help we have now is a massive improvement. He successfully completed rehab, he got clean several times. He was a paradox, who's will to death kept him fighting for life. I imagine that by now he'd be married, or not, and live in a house far away from the press. He'd be recording and doing what he wanted to do. Imagine hearing what he'd have to say, as a 50 something year old man.
    Hurts my heart, as it does everyone's who was a fan.

    There are a few misconceptions in this, but overall it was a pretty cool and beautiful tribute!!
    The “suicide attempt” has already been pointed out, but another thing is the writing of, “Miss Misery.”
    He had actually already written it before Gus ever reached out to him, but it hadn’t been released before so they made an agreement to lie and say that it was written for the film, because to be eligible for the oscars it had to have been specifically written for the film.
    Cheers!

    It might be a subtlety, but according to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elliott_Smith
    the suicide note misspelled his name as 'Elliot' instead of ElliotT. Does someone not write out their whole name? Is there an inside meaning between him and Chiba? Maybe we will never know.

    • @alycamus
      @alycamus Před 2 lety +3

      No it was a mistake made by the police officer or coroner (whoever recopied the note). But in private, Elliott was never signing with his full name, he was signing E.

    • @ciaraskeleton
      @ciaraskeleton Před rokem

      That ended up being a mistake on the part of the LAPD , BUT the case is still open to this day.
      They could never rule it as a suicide bc there just was not enough evidence+ China told so many different stories that everything was inconclusive!
      Read Alyson Camus' book on it! She's done amazing work, she did a really good job of laying out facts without being totally biased ❤

    As a prior heroin, crack & alcohol user, I'll venture to say that extreme paranoia is not really a common outcome of heroin or alcohol use. Crack, maybe. I wonder whether his claims of his house & private life being violated by the record company hold any truth, or whether they were the result of mental health decompensation. For comparison, Jimi Hendrix's story gets really weird with his "handlers". Maybe the same happened to Elliott...or maybe he just really struggled with mental health. RIP, Elliott.
