Wonderful sir keep sharing historical details of cities
Very interesting tale. Unbiased and true.
Excellent.
RIP Mr. John Jacob.
Jacobabad the city which was mentioned as hottest place in my books of Geography in 60's
Indeed it was the hottest place according to our geography books. It is now Sibi, Turbat, Dalbandin and Dadu that have overtaken Jacobabad.
Sir, thanks for giving historical information. It appears that English rulers, besides other things, we're sincere to their subjects. Last yr I went to Lahore to see Secretary schools but Sahib bahadr had no time to hear visitors as he was playing meeting meeting. After waiting about 3hrs, visitors were advised to see Add secretary in his place. Unfortunately the addl. Secretary was also busy in playing meeting;meeting. At about 2' 0 clock I disappointingly returned back to Islamabad without seeing any officer. Astonishingly all visitors belonged to public but public servants were reluctant to allow any public member to enter in to the office of their servants. Pakistan zindanad.
Such an amazing story... one should never shy away from being good. On a slide note, we have a locality here in Gurgaon called Jacobpura... A lot of locals also call it Jakampura... so I was quite surprised to see the similar thing in Balochi as well
Very interesting that Jacob becomes Jakam in our Indian languages.
Fantastic tale. Loved it
Thank you very much, Preeti.
Saad Aaya Sir Ji!

سلامتی کی دعائیں
I too have read Lambrick's book on John Jakob. Another two bits that I recall- he considered the "mofussil musalman" to be a reliable, honest chap unlike the slippery city dwellers 😆. Also, at his funeral literally thousands turned up from all over the province making it the largest funeral congregation ever seen, before or since!
Excellent presentation Sir G.....

I had a chance to stay in DC House for week as the pesonal guest of then DC Malik Israr Hussain and seen the watch perfect working condition since day 1. A person has been hired to rewind it after every 15 days. Bell was disabled because of its irritating sound loud sound. Interestingly A joint less wooden Chair was also crafted by Late Brig. General John Jackob who died because of hear stroke which is mentioned on a marble slab installed in front of the room where watch is installed
Some British sahibs were actually devoted to the welfare of the people they ruled. And generally speaking the average British babu was more fair, justice dispensing and hard working as compared to the present lot of desi babus we have.
sir, can you show one or two wood works of your police officer freind?
I'll ask him and if he says yes, will certainly put them up.
Jacum saab ka gunn aur ac saab bahadur ka ghun. Why the ghun silenced the tull ? Guard knows batter ! 😙
