It’s really a shame that they need the hype. Omega’s design team are running the brand into the ground. If they would bring on new designers/creative directors that were actually watch fans and in tune with the market, they could easily be the biggest brand in the world.
As for Swatch, their main issue is the sizes. The old ones are 33mm and the new stuff is too large. They need a 36mm. Fairly easy fix.
I think most of these Swiss brands are in dire need of new talent at the helm.

@@speedwolf5212 I think you’re blasphemous words are 100% correct. Omega is one creative director away from super success. Look at what Breitling has just done with their new designs, just stunning. Sure, anything slightly toned down from Breitlings mega-tacky recent history would have been good but they have just knocked it out of the park this go round. Omega feels safe and stale to me. Absolutely fine good looking watches without a soul. TBF I’m the last person to speak about Omega because their aesthetic as a whole has never spoken to me.
The Swatch comment is so dead on. Too small to too large. Basic Swatch should be 36 (not 34), chronos and divers 38, and chrono divers 40. No idea why they thought 43 was a good idea. Swatch make loud designs that just come off as clown shoes at that size. You know like RM does. If people have to try that hard to be noticed they need to work on their personalities first. They seriously look like toasters on the wrist.
I would also add that Swatch need better quality built into them. I own tons of them and they really are quite shit. They wind like a 15 year old learning to drive stick for the first time, functions stop working from out of nowhere, and they break easily. This goes for the Quartz versions as well. How do they use ETA and have these issues? Make them better and adjust prices accordingly. Make them easy to service as well. Swatch is a very collector friendly brand and if they just built them with some longevity in mind I think we’d see them explode again. Well that, and get the sizing dialed in.

The current day watch market is the biggest it has been in its entire history so I have no idea what you mean about the hobby needing a boost. Omega and Swatch, sure but as a whole the industry is stupid healthy. Too healthy in my mind. This mega success/desire/hype won’t last forever and pricing will come back down to earth. Honestly so glad this video came up. What killed the collab for me is exactly that: the quality issues! Mine once stopped over night! I thought the battery died already (what would have been strange) but then i engaged the pushers and bloody hell the chrono hand started to move. I then gave the watch a few gentle taps and since then it has been running. My Point is: If Omega decides to put their name on the dial, the watch has to be superior to Swatch quality. This is what a real collab should be, now it is just borrowing a Name and a design... Sad for the Brand ...

My first watch at 6 years old was a Swatch and I absolutely loved it! To cut a long story short, I’ve owned many watches from around the globe but I’m particularly fed up with everything that has to do with the Swatch brand including Omega which I have just recently bought and it‘s already in repair - can happen, fair enough.
What makes me mad though, is that I bought a Swatch Ivory and the crown broke (Believe me not my fault and error). I returned to swatch to have it fixed and they sent it back to me after 6 weeks saying they will not fix it with no further explanation. At the time I thought they didn’t want to do it for free, so I decided to just pay for the repair myself and resent it back to them saying I’ll cover the costs….
After waiting once again I received the watch back with the same note, that they are unwilling to repair it even if I pay. I had the watch for less that a year and having had at least 20 watches thus far being super careful with every piece and never broke a single one - I was pissed and still am after well over 5 years! Still have my first piece and over 30 now, if that adds some perspective…
Their customer service is terrible and I regret buying the omega even though I love the watch and knew Swatch had acquired Omega years ago.
I will never buy anything from the Swatch group again and will avoid buying overpriced pieces models because there is virtually no service after purchasing.

Not a cereal box version (as coined by one of the commentators on Hoodinkee). As for your swatch, have you tried a warranty claim? I’m sure they’ll sort you out 👍🏻 I’ve had a few swatches and they often replace the watch entirely within warranty period. A swatch is not serviceable other than battery changes. Hi Adrian, great video and food for thought. One question came to mind for me watching your segment though; did you contact Swatch to have it repaired or replaced? I'm assuming it does fall within the warranty no? It looks to me from your video that the bio ceramic cracked and could have been a batch that was improperly mixed or didn't cool right or even had bubbles form, weakening the final product. Only one third of the mix is ceramic and I would have to say that mixing ceramic and plastic can't be the easiest to do industrially. I would be interested in knowing if Swatch does make you whole and corrects this unfortunate fail.

Swatch build quality versus Casio G-Shock build quality highlights the difference between Swiss and Japanese manufacturers. The Japanese do not have any disdain for the lower end of the watch market. Swatch should have owned the lower end of the watch market given how meteoric their start was. Instead, Swatch has ultimately declined reputation wise to insignificance while Casio G-Shock moves from strength to strength.

And even though I was really fond of the idea behind this piece at the time, I've changed my mind quite quickly after reading a number of reviews highlighting the poor quality of the product and how unfair the pricing was in light of that (even before it's skyrocketed as a result of the manufacturer not keeping up with the demand).

I have the all-black one. I love it, it's very cool - but to be completely honest I waited until some of the hype had died down and I knew exactly what I was getting myself into. I love Speedmasters - I have one from 1970 that I wear almost every day and it's clearly built like a tank. I love vintage Swatch and collect those too. I know (from owning mint Swatches from the 1980s) that when you look after an affordable plastic watch they can and will last for decades. I think some people bought the MoonSwatch expecting it to be a good daily beater - but in reality the MS is Sooooo delicate. Any slight prang will damage the 'crystal' or case. It's weirdly my most fragile watch - I treat it like a vintage dress watch. Even though that's strange and not for everyone, it looks great, I enjoy wearing it and talking about it, and I know if I keep it in mint condition in future it will be a classic and regarded piece of Swatch and Omega history. I think that last point is unquestionable, because whether you like the MoonSwatch or not, it became a significant part of both brands' history the moment it was released.

Love the idea, love the design and have investigated getting one. But I just can't justify spending either $250.00 at retail with them *only* being available at a Swatch boutique or getting one off of eBay for regularly 2x or 3x retail and not being guaranteed your watch will be legit. As many have said below, it's essentially a $25.00 watch with $225.00 worth of branding & hype. There are simply too many other better, more affordable, better built, durable options out there. It's a shame really because these are stunners to look at.

I wanted to buy one when they came out, but not standing in line during the pandemic. Then they cancelled the online sale. Then I heared about the straps, and the colour transfer from the blue model. And that was it for me.
In the meantime you see at least five moonswatches online per week in forums, for about 300 to 350 euros (unworn, as they say….)
    And now this.
But thanks anyway. I know how this feels, from buying watches, and other things. It happens. First I thought that AET would be great, but the Bamford guy ruined it for me. And I like the Bamford Milsub so much…

They replaced both pushers and gave the watch a complete service even though it was only 1 1/2 years old. But when I got it back, it was gaining a massive amount of time daily. The conclusion was that it had probably been exposed to a strong magnetic field somewhere in transit. Not my fault, but not Omega's either. Regardless, they gave me a new watch.
