  • Adley starting showing signs of nesting on day 30 of her gestation cycle so we began keeping a close eye on her. We knew her belly was BIG and had been putting in our guesses of how many kits she would have. ☺️ With her past litters, she pulled fur just minutes before delivering, so to see some fur lining the nest on day 30, was a surprise and had me expecting kits at any minute.
We continued to monitor her throughout the day, giving her some cilantro and carrot treats and occasionally checking her belly for little kicks. We are very hands on with our mama rabbits so they’re very used to the attention. That familiarity is so important because once the kits are born, we check them daily - doing a count to make sure they’re all thriving and being fed well. We also handle them daily so they’re extremely used to human interaction, for our family’s sake and to also prepare them for new homes, if that’s where they’re headed.
On day 31, I woke up slightly before sunrise to go check on Adley and sure enough, there was a now large fluff of fur in the back of the nesting box. ☺️ I woke my girls up - we always uncover the kits together - and we went out to find seven healthy, wiggly little ones. Adley did such a great job carrying and delivering, and she’s always a fantastic mama.
The kits will change and develop so much within their first week. They start off with hardly any fur, but each day more and more peach fuzz continues to come in. Within their first full day, we could already see a light tan to white fur filling in and some light brown to red markings showing up. Each day we count them, we’ll be so excited to see what colors they’ll end up being!
    Thanks for watching!
