Maintaining relevance at the highest level of quality is key to keeping your TV channel afloat, something only Channel 4 seems to revel at.
I’m still disappointed at them for shutting their music channels
So many alternatives in 2024, makes no sense for a TV channel famed for its independently produced drama and entertainment to further extend itself into music. BBC, MTV etc have music covered
They served their purpose. Now there's too many alternatives that are far superior
Not sure why they couldn't have been sold rather than closed, would not someone like the people who run Now/Clubland not want them for example.
@@asterickjones if I had to pick one to be brought back or saved it would be The Box.
It's sad that all of its music own channels are closing after today I will miss the box the most.

I was Offered the Channel 4 Job in 2017 When I was a Film School/Media Studies Student in Manchester but I sadly turned it down, which i heavily regretted
‘The Box’ was a big part of my childhood back in the Diamond Cable days of the 90s/Early 00s. So like an absolute saddo I stayed up and watched the last few minutes of its broadcast last night. They ended with the Spice Girls’s ‘Goodbye’ which I thought was incredibly apt for choice of song and artist. The song finished then they played that VT they’ve been showing for the past few weeks, thanking everyone involved in making ‘The Box’ what it was and then it cut to a still that said ‘This service has now closed.’ And just like that a part of my childhood that happily continued on in the background of my adulthood was ended in an instant. It’s sucks getting old….
Also can I say that your channel is awesome and informative Adam, top stuff always ❤❤
Kerrang made up a large chunk of my teenage years, as someone who loved and still loves rock music. I think the last song they bowed out with was "Thanks for the Memories" by Fall Out Boy, a very apt song! Just like that, a part of my youth just died before my eyes. I'm glad it got such a good send-off, thanking everyone who made it what it was and the viewers who grew up with it too.
As I say: rock isn't dead, it's just sleeping after a massive hangover!
Also Channel 4: Kills The Box and all it's music channels.

I actually signed up to channel 4 earlier this week to watch smiling friends. Must’ve just been me signing up.
The thing is, as already pointed out here is that it's very annoying that channel 4 decides to come out with all this wonderfully positive news when it's in the process of closing 5 music channels, within the next 24hrs, which are still popular no matter what current trends are. I bet they've chosen now to release their figures somehow as no longer than 3 weeks ago we were being told things weren't going well ??🤨
Hope you do a video on last night's closure of the music channels, they went out beautifully. Very rare we see a channel acknowledge their final moments on air, but all 5 of them did.

It's quite refreshing to hear that there's some positive news in the television industry, after what seems like endless repeats of "networks merge into giant media conglomerates and slowly collapse under their own weight" over the last couple years. It's a shame the music channels are going away, but hopefully that's all is necessary to keep Channel 4 in the right direction and prevent them from making even worse compromises.
Channel 4 should be ashamed of themselves, shutting down the music tv channels in the uk, I literally grew up as a little kid with satellite/ Sky TV & FreeSat watching all the box hits network channels, box hits, 4Music and the box and that and now it’s all coming up to an end sadly, theses channels should not be shutting down in my option but it’s just what it is.
Also no TV licence is needed to watch on channel 4 on demand 🙂👍
Still don't understand how shutting down ALL music channels and therefor all those identities made sense. One channel, or online stream, as part of 4OD,.. whats it callled now? channel 4.. online. on the internet.
something. Just one bit, 'the box', with different parts of it, the channels that just shut, for different music tates.. seems so misguided!
Yet they are still the only major broadcaster without an Android TV compatible app.
Well, that’s great news. Hopefully that will apply to the BBC and ITV next.
Hopefully it might’ve saved the Television industry in the UK, even on its Streaming Service.

I said this back when all we got was bad news about Channel 4 - I said they are going to do well. The channel appeals to a large chunk of the audience, especially the lucrative key young demographic too
