That rod gets cut 103mm and like you said, make sure you mark and measure where that new hole has to go for the shift selector cup doodle, BEFORE you cut the it off. Its good fun figuring out where that hole goes afterwards :D
Idea for an FB swap, could you put in a concentric clutch slave (would love to know if this is possible) which would then give enough clearance to move the engine and trans back by a couple inches? That would put the gearstick where it needs to be AND give the car better weight distibution.
Id have to look. The hard part would be making sure the slave had something on the transmission to push against. Clutch side would stay the same. You would have to find a safe way to route the hydraulic line as well. I can look into it. We did a t56 in my mom's 57 chevy using an aftermarket slave/bearing combo.
I just bought a 79 rx7 and I want a 13B motor. I really like your videos they give great information!! I am not finding much 13B motors except those that come from a rx8. I see them selling the motor and trans together. Will taht fit my SA? Also what else would I need? Thanks for all your advice.
Is there any rubber or poly for rear mount or is it mounted solid? Any better pictures of fabricated mount? Loving the channel, I keep finding answers to many of my questions. Keep up the good work.
Solid mount if you have solid engine mounts. The First gen crossmember has rubber isolaters on it. So you can solid mount it to the crossmemeber due to the crossmemeber being rubber mounted to the car
Imo going from SA to FB 5 speed isnt any improvement worth the work. Slight gear ratio changes. But otherwise nothing major. FC gear ratios are a bit better. But if I was going to swap to anything it would be rx8 trans
Did you run into the problem of the RX8 slave cylinder not having clearance from the 1980 oil filter pedestal? I have competed all else but ran into this.
@@RADPotential Thanks for the reply. Appreciate the suggestion but due to the placement of the 12A oil filter there was still no room for the remote option. The overlap was too great. So I created a bracket the would turn the cylinder 90 degrees. I have pics if you would like to view.
I have a 1984 rx7 gsl-se and I got my hands on a 2004 RX8 I plan on putting the RX8 motor into the RX7 the only problem I'm having is the engine mounts do you have any recommendations

Do you know if an fd driveshaft fit turbo two transmission I’m ta talking about the front side not the rear
The output shafts of those two transmissions are the same IIRC.

An rx8 trans as well wont have a provision for a standard rubber mount as you will use the power plant frame mounting points to hold it

Yes you will be fine. It won't like 8k+ rpm shifts though

No, the rx8 has a electronic speed sensor.

Dumb question: why would you want to swap the FB 5 speed trans? Isn’t it good enough? Is there a difference between the 5 speed SA and 5 speed FB?

I ran a Racing Beat oil filter block off. And had a remote mounted oil filter.

Get billet custom made engine mounts

You need the 6 bolt counterweight that matches the rotors in your engine. With a rx8 lightweight flywheel

I do not believe there are any mounting variations between the 2. I think the reverse wiring may be different. And I know the S5 is stronger
