The area around Haroon Mosque (มัสยิดฮารูณ), in the Charoen Krung area of Bangkok, is a great place to find Halal Thai street food (food cooked permissible with Muslim / Islamic traditions). In this video I’m taking you on a Halal Thai street food in Bangkok - we’re going to eat some amazing roti roti breakfast, and some of my personal favorite curry - gaeng gari (แกงกะหรี่).
Roti Mataba Khun Mai (โรตีมะตะบะ คุณใหม่) - This is the first place we stopped for breakfast to eat Thai Muslim style roti. Ying and I split a sweet roti, and a couple of mataba gai (มะตะบะไก่), chicken stuffed roti. Both were excellent, and made hot and fresh right in front of us.
    Total price - 175 THB ($5.35)
Khao mok (ข้าวหมก) is Thai biryani, and this was actually more of a Burmese style. It rolled down the alley right where we were eating the mataba, and we had to try it. As we were ordering though, the family that lives in the house there in the gate, had watched our videos and invited us into their house to eat - this was completely random and unplanned. The family was extremely nice, and we ate the biryani in their home, and also tried a few of their extra dishes.
    Price - 90 THB ($2.75) per plate
Gaeng gari (แกงกะหรี่) - This is probably my favorite dish of this entire Halal Bangkok Thai street food tour. Gaeng gari (แกงกะหรี่) of this style is typically a Muslim version of this amazing curry. It’s packed with spice, and what I love most about it are the curry leaves that give the curry its unique and strong flavor.
    Total price - 110 THB ($3.36)
Gaeng Hindu (แกงฮินดู) - There’s a curry street food stall as you enter Haroon Mosque (มัสยิดฮารูณ) that you don’t want to miss. They have a curry that they called “Gaeng Hindu (แกงฮินดู)” or an Indian style curry. It looked like Thai massaman curry, but it didn’t taste at all like massaman curry. This curry was amazing, packed full of spicy, and not sweet at all like massaman. It’s a curry you don’t want to miss.
She wouldn’t allow us to pay. Thank you for the food!
Khanom soyi (ขนมโซยี) - This is the original version of this Thai Muslim dessert pudding. It was interesting, not my favorite.
    Price - 20 THB ($0.61)
Kuay teow bok (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวบก) - This is a Thai street food dish you won’t find often, it included wide rice noodles and herbs, with shrimp, chicken, and peanuts, with a sweet chili sauce. The sauce was too sweet for me, but I liked the freshness of the dish.
    Price - 40 THB ($1.22)
Khanom buang (ขนมเบื้อง) - Finally to end this Thai street food Halal tour, we ate khanom buang (ขนมเบื้อง). Most of the ingredients are vegetables and it’s really a refreshing and light mixture that all goes into it. It was a great way to end this food tour, and I was stuffed at the end.
    Price - 40 THB ($1.22)
You’ll find Halal Thai street food around the Haroon Mosque (มัสยิดฮารูณ), especially on Friday from about 10 am - 2 pm.
Thank you for watching this video!

Noo mi hey there i've been to bangkok couple of time, thai is one of the friendly halal country that u can easily get halal food, example mbk..u can google or find it in youtube.. One of the best and high recommended halal restaurant in mbk 5th floor yana restaurant was the best one..from the tomyum to dessert and everything taste so good with a reasonable price...it's worth ur money.. Beside yana restaurant there are foodcourt i think few of it are muslim food, from indian to indonesian food.. If u go to chatuchak the weekend market, just look for the big clock in the middle of the market just near that clock a couple of stall server halal food as well..so no worries the halal label is there😊.. Pratunam area where most tourist like to stay have lot of halal as well just google it or search at youtube...thai food is the best..tomyum, the mango sticky rice and thai milk tea very high recommended must try..

The type of curry they use don’t upset my tummy at all. Some curry spices do. Not the type our Muslim friends use. It’s warm not over powering and I feel warm inside. Plus the sauces. Oh my! So good. Thanks for sharing this Mark.

Haroon Mosque is one of Bangkok’s more significant mosques, with history that showcases migration within the region in the 1800s.
With Buddhism being the state religion of Thailand, one often forgets that there are many healthy communities of other religions thriving in pockets all over the capital. In historic Bangrak, there exists an active Muslim community that has been around centuries. The Haroon Mosque is central to this small neighborhood opposite the French Embassy and behind the Old Customs House. The presence of this house of worship and its surrounding residents only adds more diversity to the up-and-coming Creative District.
In 1837, an Indonesian-Arab trader Musa Bafadel arrived to settle down in Bangrak, which was back then a small village named Ton Samrong. He had three sons: Haroon, Uthman, and Ishaaq. Two of the sons inherited their father’s penchant for travel - Uthman headed for Malaysia while Ishaaq departed for Cambodia. Haroon firmly planted his roots in Bangkok, eventually marrying and having a son. Originally, Ton Samrong had its mosque located on the riverfront. In 1899, the Thai government saw that the land where the mosque stood was prime location for a customs house. A trading of properties concluded with the mosque being moved further inland to where the mosque stands today.
The first form of the mosque was made of wood, allegedly beautifully designed in a hybrid Ayutthaya-Java style. In 1934, Haroon’s son Muhammad Yusuf decided to upgrade the mosque to its present brick and lime form today. Ton Samrong is no more but the mosque still stands. Residents and the faithful, through their lifestyle and religious practices offer insight into Islam and its culture. Every Jumu’ah (Friday congregational prayer), the neighborhood comes alive as the community gathers to pray together. One can become a wallflower and respectfully observe the activities if permitted by the worshippers or partake in the variety of Thai-Muslim foods sold by residents.

That wouldn't be surprising because many Thai Muslims in Bangkok are descendants from Malay Muslims from southern Thailand,.

I have been watching your videos for some time now. What I appreciate is, as a "round eye", my travels in Asia as a US soldier, I often ran off the beaten path. Respect is earned, and when I showed a true learning for their cultures, people were so happy to open their homes and teach me about their cultures.
So much to learn from other people and when we truly drop our guard, we have so much to learn and appreciate from others.
Good job, charlie mike my friend, you are showing that people can experience other cultures without being afraid to try new things.
