- The Königgrätzer Marsch (AM II, 134 (AM II, 195)), also known as Der Königgrätzer or Der Königgrätzer Marsch, is one of the most famous German military marches, composed in 1866 by Johann Gottfried Piefke in commemoration of the Battle of Königgrätz, the decisive battle of the Austro-Prussian War, in which the Kingdom of Prussia defeated the Austrian Empire.

This march is great, since it was written by Johann Gottfried Piefke in memory of the victory in the Battle of Königgrätz, and he employed Der Hohenfriedberger as a trio to recall the older victories of king Frederick the Great over the Austrians in the 18th century. The Battle of Konigratz paved the way for the supremacy of Prussia in the German Confederation and ultimately led to the establishment of the German Empire

@Fabian Kirchgessner Prussia was a German state so they are Germany from a certain point of view, in the TV series 1864 (I think, I didn't check, correct me if needed.) the Danish refer to them as the Germans. Don't remember which episode tho, I should re-watch it.

A useless debate, old Königsberg is completely russified and Kaliningrad is as russian as Moscow, and the region is really important from a strategic view for Russia.
Even the German government said that they have no claim on it, and their constitution says that the old territories east of the Oder can't be reclaimed by Germany

Great grandfather was in the kaisers army rolling up the French. The other was in the Austrian against the Russian.

It's the Preußischer Lockmarsch.
Yup, Preußischer Lockmarsch, it’s actually a separate piece on its own. BTB-Concept has lots of military honours videos where you see the band playing it to announce their entrance, before playing the march proper. (Yorck’scher Marsch, Regimentsgruss, Revue-Marsch, what have you)

@Fabian Kirchgessner Not very often, in my time in the US military I worked with the Bundeswehr closely and they found that I was more interested in their military than my own. They often griped about their own military and country saying that "America colonized Germany by turning Germans into Americans." What they meant was that Americans have distorted German culture so much that it's almost unrecognizable.
Ah finally.I can now enjoy this on Dr.Ludwig's channel.

The composition of this military march first caught my attention in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). When I looked it up, it didn't occur to me that this was written in 1866 after the Battle of Königgrätz. This march composition was masterfully composed by Johann Gottfried Piefke!
The Indiana Jones version is unique with the boom bap sound of marching boots.
