    Lovely finish on those panels Chris it always amazes me how you manage to get such clean jobs considering you don't have a booth but it just goes to show that you don't need a $50k state of the art booth to get a clean job, thanks as always for all the detailed info you include in your videos👏🙏👍John UK.

    Amazing content sir! When painting around 50-60 degrees temp, would you bump the air pressure to 20 psi? or just play around the settings?

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  Před 8 měsíci +1

      For basecoat? I would play around with it for base , I error on the side of less pressure for base ,but it needs to be smooth. For clear in cold tenps 30psi and less fluid, thin wet coats is what you want

      It's all about the prep, not the painting, sounds like you may have to go back to bare metal with your roof if really as bad as it sounds

      @garygreenwood3995 meant to say the clearcoat is fading/ cracking. Base seems ok, but I guess until I start sanding on it will I see how deep i it goes. It's the typical nissan Altimas clearcoat fail on roof/ upper panels.

    It’s 45F where I am right now. Maybe alcohol as a reducer, then light it on fire when you’re done to raise the temperature? :)
    On a more serious note: winter is here where I live. Is it actually possible to paint at 50F without compromising quality too much? I’m not in a rush, I don’t care if I have to wait awhile to add the next coat.

      @@GarageNoise Thanks for the suggestion and sharing your experience.
      One of the things I am going to paint is part of the frame of my RV. Should be pretty easy to use a heat gun to heat that up. Some of the paint on it is flaking off and I’d like to get it cleaned up before it gets attacked with road salt again.
      Die grinder with a 2” surface conditioning wheel, spray with Dawn and water, then water, let it dry, then Rustoleum rust reformer followed by Rustoleum glossy black is my plan.
      My fiberglass bumper is also cracked, but I might wait till spring for that. It won’t get worse the way that metal does.

    Prep question. I'm doing a bumper change, and the used bumper I have a dark purple, and the color will be changed to a white. How would I prep the bumper for that color change? I do know I need to sand, but will I need an adhesion promoter? Should I just smooth or get the old color off by sanding or stripping? Any other suggestions would help.

    If you've already cleared a panel but it ended up being too dry (most likely all coats) can you sand it and only reclear it? Or do you need to repaint with base as well?

    When painting a car u have to see if it’s a 1 stage or 2 stage or tri how do u find out ? What it is and u have to do also for base coat what’s it used for do u primer then base coat then your paint ? What’s base for

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  Před 6 měsíci +1

      You can find out if it's a tri-coat by contacting a local paint supplier with the cars color code. I have several videos on preparation for paint and primers. Check out my channel and the different playlist. Base is just the color pigment there is no protection without the clear coat.

    Hey man! Which gun would you recommend for me to get? The R500 or the A610? I heard they have different air caps

    • @GarageNoise

      They are essentially the same gun different design. I prefer the yt160 cause the color cleans up easier than the a610 and it comes with the series 1 pps adapter for this gun.

    I know absolutely nothing about auto painting but my car collection is growing and it’ll be too expensive to paint each one. I’m looking to get an Ingersoll Rand 2340L5-V. Do I need a dryer and compressed air line filter?

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  Před 6 měsíci

      It's nice to have a dryer but not absolutely necessary. Definitely want a inline filter water and oil separator with dessicant beads. That's all I use I change beads before each paint job.

    I have this gun, just under another name. What settings would you recommend for filler primer? I just tried a test panel and it laid down like rhino liner. I know there could be many variables but no matter what psi or fluid volume I used it didn’t seem to help. Thanks!

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  Před 7 měsíci

      What cap and needle set are you using? For thick filler primer you need a large tip 1.7 or higher. Full fluid about 24psi is a good base setting. Hope this helps! Appreciate the comment!

    • @robhudson86
      @robhudson86 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@GarageNoise I used a 1.7 tip, as it’s the largest that came with the gun. I’ll try to bump up the PSI on the next run and may thin out the primer a bit. I’m also seeing a pretty big drop in PSI between the first trigger pull that’s just air and a full trigger pull with fluid. Maybe a full 10psi drop. I assume I need to set the PSI based on the full pull?

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@robhudson86 might try to lower the fluid volume as well this should help to atomize primer better.

    In every apply base coat, we must to sanding 1500 to remove dust or no need ?

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  Před 8 měsíci +3

      I think what your asking, is do you need to sand between every coat of base. The answer to that is no. The only time to sand base is if you have dirt in the base and then you just lightly sand out the dirt and apply another coat of base.

    Great finish,when I finish a panel it looks great but then go orange peel when it dries,why is this?

    • @GarageNoise
      @GarageNoise  Před 7 měsíci

      That's happened to me before. It has to do with the speed of drying. Are you force dying it like baking or pulling it ot in the sun? That could be one thing. Some clears also dye back a bit so it might have something to do with that. Activator speed could be part of it. If at all possible I like to let the clear dry on it own with a slow activator if possible. I know it's getting cold so that may not be an option.
