I'm doing the same swap from an 88 into my 79 pinto wagon. what all did you do to the bottom end, or was it just head work?
I just turned 15 and me and my dad bought a 1985 ranger 4x4 and we took it all the way down to rails so we could rebuild and I want to put a 2.3 turbo in it any tips would be awesome. I want to put a big cam in it and don't know witch one to go with never rebuilt a 4 cylinder always v8s. Thanks

Is that a custom header using a stock flange? I noticed the bolts stick out like the stock ones.
Where did you get the turbo and the whole intake manifold? I just bought a 92 ranger and I want to make it really nice.
+armando ocampo The turbo is a holset he341 that I polished. I made the upper intake manifold.
I like it! How do you like your Holset? What kind of spool time are you getting (what RPM does boost peak at) on that twin-scroll header (who made that BTW?). I love the 2.3's! I have not heard any other 4 cylinder that sounds good with a cam and doesn't have that ricey Folgers / Maxwell House exhaust sound! Yours looks and sounds awesome!
Also, is that a SC or 94-95 5.0 Mustang throttle body?
Thanks! hopefully it finished and tearing up the roads come spring. Header was made by AJ Fritz over on turborangerforums.com. If you want, you can look up my build over there (turbo91xlt). And thats a SC tb. I love the 2.3s soo much I just bought another ranger thats a '92 2.3 4x4!!! Its gonna get my other '88tc engine in the near future too!
What programs do you use for the ECU? I plan on swapping a 2.3 into my mazda rx7. Thanks.
Its a Stinger Performance PiMP ecu which is basically a microsquirt. The tuning software is called Tuner Studio, easy to work with but I'm still a novice at EFI tuning lol.

Stinger says it is plug and play. I have a sandrail 2.3 ford turbo Is it really that easy ?
Indeed it is, hardest part for me was having to get my macbook to run windows to use the programs for the ecu & wideband o2

Thanks! honestly I went with the 341 because I found it cheap & local of craigslist haha. I'll be changing the turbo down the road though so I can take full advantage of my header (split scroll).

Any idea why an 88 2.3 ranger would shut off while driving?
Ignition switch. It can also wreak havok with dumb shit like the odometer.
Check that after your battery terminals. Stock are a shit show by now.
