Monte Toboggan Wicker Sledges in Madeira Island | Full ride

The Toboggans Sledges are powered by two drivers called “Carreiros”, dressed in white and wearing the typical hats known as "Straw boaters", also they use rubber soled boots as brakes.
This journey takes place between Monte and Funchal and is done in about 10 minutes in a distance of 2 km, providing tourists with an experience filled with pure emotion.

In 2017, the sleighs were stacked on a flatbed truck while the workers boarded an airconditioned bus to return to the top.
Not shown in this video are the black & white historical photos from the early days when the sleighs actually served the purpose of getting down to the seashore from Monte. These days the ride is only half the length it once was.
