  • well it is all down hill from here. I continue on from the mine area. install woodland scenics risers. and show you the method I use to install them.. and on top of that I install woodland scenics plaster cloth. not hard stuff to use, but very messy. layout update 2018 It is all down hill from here is a continuing journey of building my HO scale model railroad.

    Cool idea with the skewers. But by adding the plaster cloth and scenery later, you're effectively gluing them to the foam anyway!? And if your plaster cloth is one piece, you glued the two risers together!? I forgot to look for the kink! Have to go watch it again. I will have a few videos up by tonight. Driving on I-80 over and down Donner Pass, working on the layout and running some trains. Maybe 1 that might gross people out, again! Kink is for the bedroom! Have fun bro!

    • @sparky107107
      @sparky107107  Před 6 lety +1

      the plaster cloth pulls right up off of the foam risers. and doesn't rip chunks out of the foam.

    Great progress Dave, glad you put your glasses on. You can also use hot glue gun here and there to hold down the foam risers and have the same effect of easy removal for changes.
    I really have to get my ass in gear. You will be down your entire layout at this rate before i even have my track laid lol
    As for the curved bridge I can scratch build one for you if you like. I did one for my past n scale that turned out great.

      sparky107107 depends on what type of bridge you want. Might have to kit bash a bridge kit or go with simple styrene. We can discuss it when your ready to go with it.

    A very nice video and layout. I plan on using Woodland Scenics risers and inclines as well, but only wanted to make my layout semi-permanent. This method you've shown of installing the risers and inclines seems much easier to take apart than gluing everything down.

      @sparky107107  Před 6 lety +2

      i seen it. but scenery sticks to the plaster cloth better.. i think.. we all have different ways of doing the same task

    • @jerrysmith1929
      @jerrysmith1929 Před 6 lety +1

      I agree with you that plaster to plaster makes a more solid connection. I have a suggestion of how you can avoid the wet plaster mess. Cut the cloth in shorter sections, just long enough to lap over the sides of the risers. Lay the strips side by side with the smooth factory cut edges next to each other but don't overlap them. Next take a mister and spray water over the plaster cloth. When wet the cloth naturally settles over the riser. Then if you wish, smooth out the sides and gently the top. The less you do to the top the better.Too much fiddling with the tops can cause the cloth to sag into the gaps in the risers and thus cause an uneven surface for your roadbed. Overlapping the cloth often produces bumpy seams. Maybe those bumps will not cause a problem in HO scale, but they certainly do for N scale.

    Curved trestles are possible, but I don't believe it's possible to curve bridges, It is possible, however to skew bridges to accommodate curves. I don't see how you may be able to salvage the foam inclines after you have covered them with plaster and laid track on top.
