While topuria knocked a lot of people down here I was actually impressed by his control. Most of the knockdowns came from just really accurate punches that weren’t even thrown that hard. Or from body shots. The only one that was maybe suspicious was the flying knee into left hook. But it was a short clip. You never know if that was hard sparring or not.
Funny enough, they were supposed to fight at a UFC event in Russia I think in Topuria's UFC debut in like 2018, 2 years before his true debut. Ilia was 6-0 all 6 wins by submission, his striking wasn't nearly as developed so I reckon Petr would've for sure won that matchup back then in a 3 rounder.

@@madgavin7568Big fan of both but I disagree here tbh, if Volk is truly taking a break then he’s going to be close if not 36 years old at that point, against a guy who was constantly improving even before he won the belt, never mind afterwards, he’s gonna have to be absolutely perfect for all 25 minutes and I just don’t see it being possible
Even in his hard sparring sessions, everything is controlled and calculated. He throws pretty hard but not hard enough to really hurt his partner bad or give permanent damage. First I ever saw of Ilia was his knockout of Ryan Hall. That was already impressive.
