But they also oppose Pres Tsai's position of turning Taiwan into Ukraine 2.0, with massive death and destruction. The nov 2022 vote where Tsai's party lost 19 of 22 municipal elections show Taiwanese distrust of the US neocons. The goal of provoking Russia into attacking was to get Europe to go along with extreme sanctions against Russia.
If the DPP loses the next eelction, the possibility of a proxy war between US and China drops dramatically. Because of this, US neocons will put a great deal of pressure on Tsai to declare independence before the next election. It's now or never. In 10 yrs the Chinese economy will be much larger than the US and this is as Garland Nixon jokingly put it, this is Biden's plan for the destruction of Taiwan. It's now or never.
