Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk today. I’m bringing to you a little advertising personality test to see if you have what it takes to be an advertising major (or marketing major too tbh). If you really relate to this video and you are either choosing your major now or considering switching your major, you might want to consider looking more into advertising. I’ll also towards the end of this video give a few reasons why you should be an advertising major.
Advertising is such an amazing field to do into which is why I always rant about how much I love it. And from a college senior who loves to give college advice, you should always pick a degree based on what is going to make you happy, not make you money. Because if you love what you do, you’ll be good at it. And if you’re good at your job, then the money will come (thanks mom for that tip).

How is it working in advertising? I’m Interested but people say you gotta have thick skin and that they call you at 12 am and from your experience what is it like working in advertising? Also I’m not good at public speaking but can I still go into advertising?

I want to start a career in advertising field,but don't have an idea to start.
What is the purpose of it?
I was literally a Pre-Vet major and I could not deal with it, I was failing classes and was super unhappy! I just switched to marketing and plan to focus on advertisement and have been so much happier. I love this!
I’m a junior unsure of what I want to do in the future and I think advertising may be the perfect fit for me! :) Everything you spoke about pretty much describes me... except I’m an introvert and hate public speaking lol. The only thing I’m afraid about is wether a career like this will make me financially stable because I don’t come from much :/
Hey I’m so happy you related to all this too lol!! I have sooo many friends in advertising who are more introverted and don’t like public speaking but they ROCK at so many other advertising skills! I totally get the financially stable worries but I always tell myself that if I like my job I’ll be good at it, and if you’re good at your job then the money will come!! Don’t pick a job based on the money because it won’t be worth hating your career!
me too, I have no connections. And also I am not that popular (I don't knowifthatmakesense but yeh). I am afraid that if I choose this major in college it will be hard for me to get a job. I'm a Filipino actually. My dream is to go abroad but I'm curious, is it needed to be good in English there? I'm actually not good when it comes to speaking in English. I stutter sometimes.

Omg, this video was so helpful! I have been stuck in deciding what I wanted to major in when going to university and I always wanted to do something like psychology or cog science but didn’t want to limit myself to just that. I also wanted something more liberating and artistic especially since I love music, and deep down inside I wanted to work in teams creating and sharing things, and I really think advertising fits with who I am and what I want to do. I never thought that this would be something that would interest me (since it’s like marketing and a business aspect) but it literally sums up everything I want 💀 Thank you so much for making these videos!! Literally helped me from having an existential crisis about my life lmao 💗💗💗
I can't relate to this so much!! I was really into art and science in high school like studying engineering and architecture but both those fields were math orientated and I'm not good at math. And tbh not a lot of ppl were creative like I was, not that they were not smart, they were smart, but I always tended to be more social and socially conscious about the problems we were given. Im good at a little bit of everything so I think advertising is good for me.
Am I the only one who finds it strangley satisfying and enjoyable to watching commercials or look at magazine ads and yes I love photos😳. Maybe I need to be in advertising lol.

The upcoming month i will be in college studying this major...I wasn't sure this was the right decision bcz I knew nothing about it (I even though of switching before even the school year starts)but you literally described me especially that I was looking for a fun career (I get bored easily) so thank u so much 💕💜you saved my head from exploding from the overthinking
Im working on a degree in Journalism: Public Relations and a minor in Marketing, but I’m hopeful I can get into advertising with this!
I’m thinking of advertising as I like graphic design a bit but also almost like the business side too I do want to make money though as I don’t wanna worry about that all the time so I’m still unsure but this definitely intrigued me

My college didn't follow 5:16 :'( we have to study drawing and perspective in 1st semester and "Advanced" drawing in 2nd semester... I literally cry in those classes, hate drawing idk why my college have drawing in Advertising program...

Wow, im older and have literally beem searching for almost 15 years to fkgure out what i want to do. I am interested in so many things, i can never choose one. Want to work where i have creative freedom, but am not an artist as you mentioned, i can still design the heck out of things and put things together beautifully, i want to work with people, and ideas, and solve problems. And want to make decent money. Biggest thing i am put off of in a business type career, is it being competitive, and my lack of self esteem. Do you find those two things to be essential in succeeding in this field?

I’m extremely creative and have been feeling overwhelmed with a new career change people are always asking me am I in the music industry or advertising or psychology? My country does not offer majors in advertising but others like marketing, communication, etc. would it make sense to take up other majors as an alternative for advertising? but still work towards being an ad designer?
Hey love, that's awesome that you're interested in advertising! If you want to go into design, graphic design is a great place to be! If you want to be in advertising but there is no advertising major, I would go into marketing and try and minor in graphic design or comms! :)

It is suck that in other countries, as I know, advertising major is hella BAD educated and it also requires the highest scores on exams. There are a lot of humanitarian professions so they are not really demanding. Finding a work - God, a luck and only. I hope everything will be just fine and I will pass the fcckkkiin exams.

Hey girl! I'll honestly probably make a more in depth video in the future because I agree that there is so much more to be said about all the other roles that I only just touched on! I was similar too because I thought I wanted to go into accounts and only ever heard of creatives! For awhile I looked into production because I like to make the content, but not like graphic design lol. I guess you have to look at specifically what you're good at and how that translates into your position! That's awesome that you're at an agency now tho because that will help you explore everything an agency offers!
