- Thinking about moving to Whistler and need some advice? This is the first of several videos aimed at sharing honest, helpful and tested knowledge I've learned about this amazing place in the hopes that it benefits you, whether you're visiting for a few months, years or forever. DISCLAIMER: things are always changing in Whistler and I will never be able to mention everything so please share any extra tips or updates you can think of, after all, caring is sharing.

That's so amazing! Really good to hear on the accommodation front. Can you eloborate on van life a bit? Is it common and more affordable then renting? Any recommendations where to look into getting one?
Hey Adam! Thanks for the awesome feedback. So Van life is way more affordable than renting, especially in the Winter when the rent goes up sometimes to 900-1000 per person (for a shared room). I have a friend who is looking to sell hers in a couple months so I can put you in touch if you like, or have a look on craigslist and join the Whistler Buy and Sell fb page to look. It is fairly common but the muni don't like it so they make it hard to find parking but once you have that cracked you are golden. It's worth knowing that the Summer van life is a dream but in the Winter it is very cold so can be tough. If I were you I would join the Whistler Housing Crisis page on fb and jump on any cheaper housing options - 600-800 p/m is a really good deal - and then if you need to, sublet until Summer. The big thing, if you don't want Winter Van life - is making sure you have a house by early August time. From then on the housing challenge is huge. I hope that helps xx

Hello, I’m planning on heading up next month from the uk but am struggling with insurance, did you have travel insurance the whole time you were there or is msp enough? I know you need insurance for the whole duration of your trip

Hi Alice, how are you? are you still live on Whitler? My husband and i are planning to move there and stay. We want to get the permanent residence, so maybe we will try that. Hi Alice! Are you still out in Whistler? I just got hired as a ski coach for the season and I’m feeling quite hesitant to accept it due to worries with finding reasonable housing, making friends, and just feeling comfy there in general. I’m such a home body and not a big partier anymore so just wondering if you might have some words of wisdom to pass along. Seems like a lively yet transient community over there. Thank you ! xx
Hi Ivey! So great to hear from you. I'm back in the UK now but I still have so much love for Whistler and definitely appreciate where you're coming from. Firstly, congratulations for getting a job as a ski coach! Most housing is hard without evidence of a job so thats a great first step, though I'll be honest - getting accommodation from Autumn onwards is so tough there. Have you joined the Facebook pages/ sites I've recommended and checked for accommodation via them. It might be different due to the pandemic but based off of my experience I wouldn't recommend committing to whistler until you have some housing security. The rest - friends and comfort will come with that as you have housemates to hang out with and the security of a home to go back to. I'm totally with you on the partying front. I found the best way to avoid getting swept up in that culture is surrounding yourself with like minded people - there's lots of community groups in whistler such as Whistler Vegans, weekly games nights at the library, free spanish classes - so it's quite easy to meet people without having to get wasted. If you are having real issues with accommodation and dont mind the job you do - I would recommend getting in touch with business' that offer accommodation with the job - that's the case for a few places. To start you could contact the Green Moustache, 21 steps, the super markets or the hotels, some of them also offer ski passes. Downside would be, as with your current job, if you lose the job you MAY lose your pass so worth checking out but do so with caution. I hope that's helpful. Thank you for such a thoughtful reply! My job actually already comes with a pass, though the job is only 2-3 days per week (the team trains mostly on weekends). I actually just joined all of those Facebook groups you mentioned yesterday when I heard I got the job! I didn’t realize finding housing would be so hectic. It sounds like once I get that sorted out though the rest would more or less fall into place. My alternative is working as a ski coach at home (which I’ve done before), where I have a free comfy place to live and a community already. Downside of course is not getting the Whistler experience!! Lots to think about but thank you for your help!
Ivey Norton Ivey Norton no worries! Genuinely made this video to help people so it’s nice to be able to. Ah part time Hence why they’re not offering accommodation? Honestly if there’s a way you can go I would really recommend it - it was the most incredible experience. I had a pretty shady landlord that I wouldn’t recommend but worst comes to worst I can link you up and if you decide you want to rent there for a month or so while you look for another place I can send you his email so let me know. In the meantime, Good luck! I’m sure whatever you decide you’ll have a wonderful time!

Hi Abhishek, I’m afraid that’s not something I am aware of however there are accommodation groups in whistler who can help you. I know of whistlerlistings, remax whistler and whistler real estate. You could also ask in the Facebook group I mention and I’m sure someone will get back to you in no time. Good luck! A
