  • In this tutorial I'll show you how to make some faun hooves out a pair of high heeled shoes. Had requests for this tutorial from Gravitythewolf, Eric, and Otterpus2764 These are perfect to finish off a faun or satyr costume. I left the heels on mine to make them more comfortable to walk in (and hopefully prevent broken ankles ;-) ), but if you want your faun hooves to look more natural, you can just break the heels off and paint over the broken part.
    MATERIALS USED:
    A pair of high heels (check your local second hand shops for a cheap pair)
    Small pieces of Wonderflex (Available at wonderflexworld.com)
    Power-tac glue (amzn.to/2ixOyvy)
    Black glossy paint (amzn.to/2BFGYJQ) and paintbrush
    1 foot of fake black fur (I found mine in JoAnn Fabrics)
    Hope you enjoy this video. If you have any questions or requests for future tutorials, feel free to leave me a comment below. I post a new cosplay tutorial every Thursday and a new crafting tutorial every other Monday, so check back next week for more DIY goodness.

    Even though you didn’t use the “normal” method of putting homemade hooves on the bottom and cutting off the heels, these are actually fantastic- So, thank you for making an easier and, from the looks of it, more comfortable option for those who want to make satyr feet! They still look great and convincing, and it shows you don’t need fancy things to make something good :)

    Question if you don't mind, are these comfortable or somewhat wearable for long periods of time? I don't really know how to word this well. But you did a good job! Thank you if you answer. :D

    • @Thewoodlandelf
      @Thewoodlandelf  Před 3 lety +4

      They're not too bad. I don't normally wear heels, but I think these probably feel the same way as wearing any other pair of high heel shoes for a long period time. (I purposely left the heels on mine so they'd be more comfortable).

    • @Thewoodlandelf

      Use a small-tooth saw and cut them off. That way the rest of the shoe won't accidentally shatter.

    So instead of fur, could you do felt? and use a wire brush to make it look furry? Or like string, and still use the wire brush? Im trying to do this on a low budget, and with a color scheme of white, with speckles of purple

    • @Thewoodlandelf
      @Thewoodlandelf  Před 5 lety +3

      I don't think felt would work that well, but you could probably do yarn and then use a wire brush. Though honestly, the stuff I used here was fake fur from JoAnn Fabrics. If you take one of those 50% off coupons, you can probably get enough fake fur to cover a pair of shoes for $5, and save the work od having to wire-brush anything.

    Is there a substitute you could use in place of a thermoplastic? I love your method but I can't find any thermoplastic in my area

    • @Thewoodlandelf
      @Thewoodlandelf  Před 2 lety +2

      I usually order my thermoplastic online, as it's not in my area either. I don't think there's much else you could use other than thermoplastic for these, because other things such as craft foam or clay would get damaged when you walk on them.

    Quick question! How does the wonder-flex deal with water and dirt?

    • @Thewoodlandelf
      @Thewoodlandelf  Před 3 lety +3

      Water is no problem, it's plastic so it's water proof. As far as dirt, I never used it straight, I always glue and paint over it, so it just depends on the type of paint I'm using as to how it handles dirt.

    Quick question, could you just use super glue instead of power tax? (Or is power tax just a brand of super glue, sorry I'm really bad at this sort of stuff😂)

    • @Thewoodlandelf
      @Thewoodlandelf  Před 4 lety

      You could probably just use super glue. Power tac is essentially a super glue, it's just got a stronger hold, and sticks to more surfaces.

      @@Thewoodlandelf Yes apologies! Meant a hair dryer. :)

    • @Thewoodlandelf
      @Thewoodlandelf  Před 2 lety +1

      I tried a hair dryer once. It does melt it enough to form shapes with it, but not enough to get really fine details. So if you're doing something simple like these hooves, a hair dryer would probably work. But if you're doing something more detailed you'll probably want a hotter source.

    for the hoof shape, would you think i could use clay?

    • @Thewoodlandelf
      @Thewoodlandelf  Před 2 lety +1

      I don't think clay would work very well, as it'd be likely to crack when you're walking in them.

    • @togahimiko6742
      @togahimiko6742 Před 2 lety

      @@Thewoodlandelf this is kind of old, but I'm having trouble finding answers -
      I'm making hooves with a wooden block acting as the hoof underneath the front of the heel, but I don't have the skill or tools to carve details into it, so I was considering using clay for the outer bit. Would polymer clay (I think I have sculpey original) still crack under these conditions?

    • @Thewoodlandelf
      @Thewoodlandelf  Před 2 lety

      Toga Himiko - It's risky, as clay tends to crack when pressure is applied to it. But you might be able to get away with it if you do it so the clay is a bit above the bottom of the hoof so it's not actually touching the ground and having pressure put on it. If the shoe shifts at all though, it will probably crack.

    • @traumatizedllama5370
      @traumatizedllama5370 Před 2 lety +1

      @@Thewoodlandelf yeah, clay does tend to crack sometimes
      what i would do if the clay DOESN'T crack, i would make the hoof shape with the clay and add it onto the tips of the heels to create that shape, but if it cracks like that i most likely wouldn't do it. it might be possible to create a resin pour into a hood mold though. would you have an opinion on that?

    • @Thewoodlandelf
      @Thewoodlandelf  Před 2 lety

      e - Yeah, a resin pour would probably work pretty well. Or maybe even coating the clay form itself in resin to give it added strength.

    What’s the alternative to high heels as a male child is gonna wear them?

    • @Thewoodlandelf
      @Thewoodlandelf  Před 3 měsíci

      Is the concern that he's gonna fall trying to wear high heels? If so, I'd just recommend making them out of a pair of black loafers or something similar. Check the second hand shops for a cheap pair (and if you can't find black, you can always paint them. They wont show much under the fur anyway). You can just make the fur go up the leg a bit to compensate for the flat shoes.
