***** i seen around 100, you can post webm to youtube. they are on the web they just aren't that common yet. it's the new standard it's not adopted yet. it's the main format that imgur uses (on the backend) you can get any gif as a webm, it's going to be more popular as they are much larger and higher quality and have small file size. i.imgur.com/TnmlzlU.gifv here is one.
+Moth I completely understand that, and am fully aware of the format. It's also not compatible on social networks like Twitter, which was one of the main points of this video.
Thanks man. You are live safer. I have been trying the online tools and those tools are sh*t and cannot give smooth gifs. This method saves a lot of time and give the smooth gifs which is just time saving. Respect❤
This was really helpful! Just got all the adobe software and am learning how to use it all... This will be great for speed drawing gifs on tumblr! Thanks!
The reason why transparency reduces the file size is because GIF files will reuse the same pixels from an old frame if that pixel is transparent, and transparent pixels take up less space than colored ones, so photoshop makes certain pixels that don't change transparent to reduce their size.
Great video! Have you also done one that shows how to add an animated gif to a static jpeg image? I use Photoshop CC and if you opened a gif on one page and a static image on another, apparently you used to be able to copy the gif time line and paste it onto the page with the static image...except now after you copy the time line and switch, the paste option doesn't appear in the menu. It's an issue I've noticed that other users are experiencing the same problem recently. Did Photoshop CC make some changes? If not, can you demonstrate how its done? Thanks!
I wonder if the transparency changing the file size is a bug. I have always left it checked, but the file size that it reports in the save window is often quite a bit smaller than what actually gets saved. So if it tells me I have a 10mb file in that preview, I will typically get a real file size of about 12mb. So I wonder if that button is not reporting correctly.
@@stummkind i tried it with mp4 and it works flawless for me. Its all about the export with file size and image resolution That will either not work or work i had to shorten my 5 sec clip to 3 sec (60 fps) with full 1080p Gif. for my project.
Hey Howard! I'm just starting graphic design and was wondering if there is a place that you know of that I could share some of my designs with other artist to get helpful feed back? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for all the awesome videos you make!
This is such a great and useful video - one question, I can't see how you change the dimensions of the gif, where do you click on to do that (at 3.20)?
He is using CC and im using CS 6 hence the issue but I found a solution for this guys :) follow the following steps File>Import>Video Frames to Layers and I was able to save it again using Export > Render Video but i haven't figures out how to convert it to gif
I really wish .apng would have gained traction online. I still think there's a place for it beside mp4/webm. It amazes me that the gif format hasn't been properly superseded. Html5 is close, but video elements still aren't as seamless as they otherwise could be.
Especially in the case of showing an item (as in your example) couldn't you save even more size by cropping the sides? Or does that not work for video?
Ty using this to make wallpaper gifs for my phone, but my gif has a problem there's a long pause before my gif loops again and i have no idea what it is?
hey I'm trying to help a friend out but I haven't used my Photoshop in 2 years. how can I download his profile pic on Facebook (its an animated video profile) he wants me to add a picture to his video. but I cannot remember how to download his video and upload it to Photoshop

Good and well explained in a quick pace but yet understandable and easy to follow. Thank you, thank you, and thank you.
instructions clear as heck. Thank you!
gifs are multiple images one after the other.
transparence just means that parts of the image that don't change won't be in any frame after the first.
the new file format is WEBM man this guys in the past.
blog.imgur.com/2014/10/09/introducing-gifv/ (also called .gifv)
+Moth Technically just an actual video file, but yes, that is the new standard.
+Moth I have heard of WEBM, but how many animations have you actually seen with this format? Almost none. Until it's widely used, it doesn't count.

I'm fully aware that other formats DO exist, but they're currently not being used, and many browsers don't support them yet.
I used to do this alot in Image Ready. Glad to see it's not much has changed.
This is what I am really SEARCH FOR!!!!
Many thanks to you, HOWARD!!! 😇

because of your data file. He is using .mov files which would work just fine for you as well. Most probably you tried it with .mp4

This helped alot! ty
thank you
Thank You!
One way to reduce file size dramatically is to reduce the frame rate. 15fps is good.
I really wish .apng would have gained traction online. I still think there's a place for it beside mp4/webm. It amazes me that the gif format hasn't been properly superseded. Html5 is close, but video elements still aren't as seamless as they otherwise could be.
