The Beauxbatons sorting system consists of Student’s magical abilities. Unlike Hogwarts they are sorted in their second year, the first yeas stay in the same house to preserve a modicum of friendship while maintaining house rivalry.
Alchimie Maison-Alchimie Maison or Alchemy House is dedicated to those students who are well off in the studies of Alchemy, Potions, Elixirs, Brews, Antidotes, And so on.
Metamorphose Maison-Metamorphose Maison or Transformation House Allies In students with a skill in Conjuration, Transfiguration, and the relating magical arts.
Ensorcellenent Maison-Ensorcellenent Maison or Enchantment House is for the students who’s skills lie in Charms, Illusions, and other such magicks.
Bataille Maison-Bataille Maison or Battle House favors those with skills in the practices of Dueling and Combat.
Floraison Maison-Floraison Maison or Plant House is dedicated to students who truly have a distinctness for the natural magicks such as Care for Magical Creatures, Herbology, And so on.
Paradis Maison-Paradis Maison or Heaven’s House is a paradise to those who find themselves entrenched in the lore of the Stars and Astrology.
Première Maison-Première Maison or the First House is where first years reside.
Method of Sorting:Using the grades of the students as well as the Professor’s observations the professors and headmistress/Master sort the students themselves. Making sure no other professor favors one student over another. Also for Fleur’s house if this was true. I would say Ensorcellenent. From both the second and first task she utilizes charms whether they be innate or spells(ie. Veela Allure or the Bubble-Head Charm). As also seen in the second task she couldn’t defend herself from the grindelows making me think she isn’t much for combative magic. I have no basis or source for her skills in the other subjects but from what I’ve seen that’s what I can infer.
Edit/Note:This isn’t canon and only my idea of how Beauxbatons would sort its students. I apologize for my lack of knowledge in the French language if I’ve offended anyone.

      @siphiwokuhlekhumalo9835 Před 4 lety +84

The decision was justified by the book: beauxbaton students were uncomfortable at Hogwarts: they complained about the exterior and interior of the castle, as well as the food and ambience. While the Durmstrang students were impressed by everything at Hogwarts. So I guess Beauxbaton living is very comfortable and luxurious, while Durmstrang living is harsh and simple. Which made it easier to make the schools same sex and polar opposites in the movie.

Beauxbatons headcanons from a french person :
    - There is no houses at Beauxbatons, there never was such thing in France. The students are separated by years and classes, and origins for those who aren't french. There is like 25-30 children by classes. The students from the same class shares their schedule the whole year. The classes change every year. There is many teachers that teach the same subjects. Every classes are taught by the same teachers the whole year.
    - I also believe that there is muggle subjects taught at Beauxbatons, such as French (mainly for the foreigners), Maths (obligatory the 4 first years, facultative the 3 next), History & Geography, English and langue vivante n.2 where you have to choose between Spanish and German, and then langue vivante n.3 (facultative) where you can choose to learn Italian, Russian, Arabic, or Mandarin. You can also ask to take Latin or Ancient Greek classes. There is also many extracurricular activities proposed to the students, like muggle sports, gardening, knitting, dancing, singing, learning to play an instrument, art classes, or class patrimoine, where the teachers take the students all over the country to visit museums and monuments (you have to ask permission from the parents for that class) & others.

Vice versa for Durmstang boys were emphasized more than the girls. Beauxbatons lovers, can you help me?💜
I'm writing a meditation set in Beauxbatons during Christmas. The only things that we get to know from the books is that, in the Dining Chamber, Wood Nymphs serenades the students while they eat and the hall is adorned with great, glittering, non-melting ice sculptures.
Plus, there's a magnificent fountain in the middle of the school’s park, believed to have healing and beautifying properties, named after Flamel and Peronelle.
I imagine Beauxbatons during Christmas like a mesmerizing winter wonderland.
    My questions for you are:
    - what spells/type of magic do you associate with Beauxbatons? 🔮
    - what do you think the Dining Chambers looks like?
    - what can you see in the gardens? Animals/flowers/colors? 🦋
    - what do students eat/drink for Christmas?
    - anything else you imagine/associated with "Christmas at Beauxbatons"
    TIA💜
I have the whole story in mind but I'd love to know what fellow fans imagine about it, since we know so little from the official books!

one thing I like to imagine Beauxbatons having is a open air potions class or at least a potions class that isn’t a dungeon. it would consist of large french doors that would open out to a secluded courtyard where the class set up their cauldrons when they were brewing potions with more putrid smells. in winter I like to see the students learn recipes that require being brewed in cold temperatures or have winter vegetation as ingredients. The teacher would be able to cast spells to change the classroom’s configuration, such as moving the cauldrons and desks between the indoor and outdoor areas. there’s a storage room for ingredients under the class in the style of a french wine cellar.
so that’s my idea for Beauxbatons potions class room.

To be honest J.K. Rowling kind of messed up with Beauxbâtons, like a lot...
To summarize that comment (because it's ridiculously lengthy though not the worst I've done) : the castle = stupid ; the clothes = stupid ; the exams = stupid ; and there would be no Houses or Prefects in Beauxbâtons. Why? My thoughts are under the cut if you feel like it.
    1. The kind of castle she describes in the books is typical of a Renaissance castle of the North/Center of France, nothing to do with a 13th century or older castle from the South of France, like at all...
    2. The lack of warm clothing of the students is ridiculous for two reason : the first is that if Beauxbâtons is in the Pyrénées, well it's the mountains, it's freezing cold in winter, how the hell would they survive? And the second reason is even if by some miracle there's I don't know, spells to counter the cold on the castle's grounds, no french person (except maybe in the north but they're already living in the cold and the rain, so...) would plan to go to Scotland and not bring enough warm clothes to survive in Siberia. We kinda all think of Scotland as this reaaally cold place, even if sometimes it's not.
    3. The thing about having the french equivalent of the OWLS in the sixth year instead of the fifth is really weird, because in France we have a really important exam but in the fourth year, to me it sounds like someone told Rowling that and she misunderstood, like someone told her it was a year before (fifth year) and she understood a year before 7th year, I don't know...
That's all I can think of right now about what J.K. Rowling messed up... But about the thing you said, about the houses, I think it would be good to remember that house system in schools is a very english thing to do, as is putting students against students for a reward and even the concept of prefects, it's just giving one student punishment and reward rights over other students just because they are deemed "better" than the others, it's dumb and we don't do that in France. Instead, the prefect position would be given to adults, not a part of the teacher body, though we do have students that are elected (by other students based on how trustworthy they are) but only to represent them in front of the teachers and staff, not give punishments. Yeah, there wouldn't be houses or prefects in Beauxbâtons, sorry to disappoint.
Anyway, sorry if I wrote things that didn't make any sense or if I spelled things wrong, it's 3 am and I'm french, isn't there like a consensus about how french people are bad at english anyway? I should probably stop writing there because this whole subject has been pissing me off since I read that book what feels like an eternity ago, and I fear I'm only becoming more sarcastic and condescending as the night goes on. Sorry about that I guess...

You did make some very good points though. Especially about the clothing issue. Wouldn't have been nice to also see what kind of beautiful warm clothing that they would wear? When I found out that both schools were co-ed I simply thought that in the competitions that the schools would have had to see who would qualify to go that the Boy's team won at Durmstrang and the Girl's team won at Beauxbatons. Perhaps that is too simplistic?

Considering how in touch the French are with art and the consept perfecting ones soul, I believe Beauxbatons, would have factions depending on a student's potential, magical skills, and abilities.
They would probably have something similar to a sorting hat, but a different object, like a cup that changes colour when a student drinks from it and each colour would correspond to a different faction. Each faction would be dedicated to push a wizard or witch to reach their predicted potential, there is no true hopeless student, everyone is fitted for something. This means that there isn't a four house system but a more unified one. There is no animosity between the factions like there is in Hogwarts, as it's not something to do with their character or old grudges or one faction endorsing wizard bigotry (c'mon you know it's true about Slytherin).
It's not all fun and games mind you, this system isn't perfect, as it supports that a person is ment for something in their life since they are children and there is no room for flexibility, discouraging students from practising something they'll probably like more in their life; for example if the sorting cup finds that your abilities suit you more for studying and working with magical creatures yet you find out in the future you like wand creation more, Beauxbatons will disaprove of you "wasting" your time with something the cup found not to be suitting for your magical abilities.

You can visit the castle, it's Château de Chambord, along the Loire river valley. Beautiful place. Love from France!

My idea for the Sorting test was based on the school's apparent affinity for equestrian magical creatures. The emblems of the four Houses of Beauxbatons would be an Abaraxas (called Pegasus to give it a bit of romantic flare), a Unicorn, a Hippogriff, and a Hippocampus. On their first day, students would present themselves to each of these beasts in turn. Whichever seemed to like you best, that would be your House at Beauxbatons.

I believe that there is another wizarding school in America that was founded by two Beauxbatons graduates that were a married couple who brought Beauxbatons' education system to the Southeastern United States, based in Louisiana and calling this school the "American" Beauxbatons.
The school was founded by Demetrius Devereaux, a half-blood wizard (1685-1801) and his wife Caroline Thibideaux, a quarter-Veela witch (1689-1815) in 1718, calling it Devereaux's School for Magical Youngsters (Fr. École de Devereaux Magique les Jeunes), located deep within the bayou of New Orleans.
Devereaux's appears as a somewhat splitting image of Château de Chambord with a touch of French architectural styles of Renaissance, Châteauesque, and French Colonial, but smaller than the original château and large enough to be a university campus.
Devereaux's teaches Astronomy, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts (including Hoodoo and Voodoo), Herbology, History of Magic, Potions, and Transfiguration for it's core classes. And for electives, Alchemy, Arithmancy, Care of Magical Creatures, Divination, Muggle Studies (called "Mundaneology" in America), Ancient Runes, and Technomancy (a branch of alchemy).
