    Passing Through Security
Security Officer: Good morning. Please have your ID and boarding pass ready.
Passenger: Good morning. Here they are.
Security Officer: Thank you. Please place all your carry-on items and personal belongings into a bin. Remember to take out any electronics and liquids.
Passenger: Sure. Do I need to remove my shoes?
Security Officer: Yes, please remove your shoes, belt, and any jackets or coats. Place them in the bin as well.
Passenger: Okay, here are my shoes, laptop, and liquids bag.
Security Officer: Thank you. Please walk through the metal detector.
(Passenger walks through the metal detector)
Security Officer: Please step to the side for a moment. We need to do a quick pat-down.
    Passenger: No problem.
    (Security officer performs a pat-down)
Security Officer: All done. You’re clear to go. Have a safe flight.
    Passenger: Thank you!
    STEP 2: PASSING THROUGH SECURITY
After checking in, go to the security checkpoint where your carry-on items and personal belongings are screened.
    Security Checkpoint
This is the place where you and your carry-on items are checked before you can enter the boarding area. You need to go through the security checkpoint before you can go to your gate.
Show your ID and boarding pass to the security officer.
    ID (Identification Document)
This is an official document with your photo, like a passport or driver's license, used to prove who you are.
    Boarding Pass
This is a ticket given by the airline that lets you get on the plane.
Get a bin from the stack.
    Bin
This is a plastic tray used at the security checkpoint to hold your personal items.
What should you put in the bin?
Electronics like laptops, tablets, and large cameras. Electronics can block the X-ray machine’s view. By taking them out, security officers can see everything better.
Liquids: All liquids must be in a clear, quart-sized plastic bag. For example, beverages (water, soda, juice), toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothpaste, mouthwash, liquid soap, shaving cream, gel deodorants), cosmetics (liquid foundation, mascara, lip gloss, makeup removers, nail polish, and perfumes), other liquids (liquid food items like soup or yogurt, aerosols, gels, and pastes). Liquids can be used to make dangerous items, like explosives. By checking all liquids, security officers can make sure they are safe. The general rules are liquids must be in containers of 100 milliliters or less. All liquid containers must fit in one quart-sized, clear, resealable plastic bag.
Belts and Jackets: Remove belts, jackets, and coats. Jackets, coats, and belts can hide items that security needs to check. By removing them, security officers can make sure you are not carrying anything dangerous.
Metal Items: Keys, coins, watches, and anything else with metal. Metal items can set off the metal detector, causing an alarm. Some metal items could be dangerous, like knives or tools. Taking them out helps security officers make sure everyone is safe.
Shoes: If the security officer asks you to remove them. Shoes can hide dangerous items like weapons or explosives. By taking off your shoes, security can see if there is anything dangerous inside.
Next, put the bin with your items on the conveyor belt. Your bin will go through an X-ray machine for screening.
    X-ray Machine
This is a machine that looks inside your bags to check for forbidden items.
    Walk Through the Metal Detector
    Metal Detector
This is a device you walk through that checks for metal objects. Wait for the security officer to tell you when to walk through. Walk through the metal detector slowly.
If the metal detector beeps, you may need extra screening.
    Pat-down
A security officer may check you with their hands. Sometimes, you may need to stand in a full-body scanner.
    Collect Your Items
After your items come out of the X-ray machine, collect them from the bin and put them back on.
After passing through security, you must find your gate.
