Kim Clijsters is just incredible. She's so strong and athletic, and very talented. It's very surprising this was her 1st slam. She lacked a bit of mental strength in the early 2000s. Her defense on hardcourts is the best I have ever seen from any woman. It really frustrated Mary Pierce. Mary is an interesting player. She can beat anyone when she's playing at her best, but she lacks consistency. Both are great champions in their own right.

Noticed players when they play Venus and Serena they play at higher level. Clijsters played better in her match against Venus in the quarter finals. The top players know they have to play at a another level to beat the William sisters. Clijsters didn't need to move as fast and hit the ball hard against Pierce like she did against Venus but Clijsters got lucky that match Venus looked kind of injured in the 3rd set. Clijsters always defeat Venus injured the US Open 2005, 2009 & 2010 and all those matches went to 3 sets Clijsters with Clijsters playing her very best and Venus playing at about 40% and she still struggled to beat Venus.
