@@darthvader5300 Agriculture is destroying the planet. It is very frustrating how much miss information there is on this topic. Grazing can actually sequester far more carbon than forests at a much, much faster rate. If we grazed animals on a large enough scale, we could actually mitigate all human emissions. Growing plants can not do this. Plant agriculture uses massive amounts of fossil fuels and unlike grazing cattle, it doesn't mitigate its own emissions. The soil microbiome is killed with chemicals and that dead soil is lost rapidly, causing complete land infertility and desertification. Grazing animals is the fastest way to replenish these lands, bring the microbes back, give nutrients back, rehydrate, break up impaction, and build soil faster than any other process. It would take nature decades to build the amount of soil made in a couple of yrs of Grazing.

Almost 90 and still designing and building geothermal greenhouses that incorporates new ideas and making the design concept better. Could he add beekeeping to increase his levels of plant fertilization, and raise more flowers to create a bigger honey harvest? Stay tuned to find out, or build your own geothermal greenhouse and let us know how it turned out for you.

Heat houses or theses greenhouses are all over the Scandinavian region. The most productive farming units are based off of these units. They can run circles around American farming techniques without carcinogenic pesticides or ground water destructive fertilizers. Hopefully more people will follow.

You have totally missed the point. Hot houses are also used over here in Poland, but what he offers is low cost of heating in winter and the ability to grow citrus trees. I do wonder tho. The experts on citrus claim that citrus trees need low temps in winter, ab 10 degrees. 15 degrees must affect their health, and lower temps must affect other plants eg tomatoes.

Many years ago, I worked for a nursery, and they had several greenhouses that were built in WWII, to save money heating them. This was in New Jersey. They were basically dug into the ground, with glass roofs. We grew citrus and bananas in one. No additional heat was used, and in the Summer white wash was sprayed on the glass roof to prevent it from getting too hot in them. Everything old is new again, I suppose.

They add a very thick layer of titanium dioxide on top of a newly formed EMERGING sheet of glass emerging from a float glass furnace while it is still in the process of slowly solidifying so that the titanium dioxide will diffuse sunlight in sufficient amounts so as to prevent the other side in the interior from overheating or becoming too hot.

The air that you breathe is good for the plants and vice-versa. Which is a good idea to circulate from the house to the green house a little every now and then.

After seeing about this dude, I had this idea a short bit ago to make a greenhouse like this but dig down more like fifteen feet below ground level with maybe a brick or cement terrace around the edge to help keep the walls from pushing in, the center would be deep enough to grow a serious sized tree if the roof goes up to ten feet above the ground level. I imagine it would barely need to bring in more heat (though a geothermal system would be needed in colder places and maybe for extra touchy plants) being set in the ground so deep already (in my own zone 7b things never freeze below 18 inches of soil) and this would be having most of the planted area heated above freezing if insulated well in similar areas. I'm thinking about the same length as his one in this video, but I think twice the width and even without the extra depth would probably feel really nice to just look at and walk through.

@@Grayson4life Agriculture is destroying the planet.

We are designing our homestead now. Paid off the raw land so now it's time to build.
One thing on my list is a subterranean greenhouse. Not sure if it will work with our build location yet but I'm hoping to design the greenhouse to connect into the lower level of the house. I want to walk out into the greenhouse directly from the house. Plus the extra humidity can be used in the house. And I want certain foods that won't grow naturally in my area.
We have some geothermal in our area but haven't seen any greenhouses...and I'm a Master Gardener. Just not common here I guess.

summary Here's a brief explanation of how he uses pipes in his greenhouse system:
Geothermal Tubes: Finch's system involves laying a network of large pipes (four-inch tubes) underground at a depth of about eight feet. These pipes are laid out in a trench that can extend up to 200 feet away from the greenhouse.
Circulation of Air: A blower is installed at one end of these underground pipes. The purpose of the blower is to circulate air through this underground system.
Temperature Regulation: The system takes advantage of the constant temperature underground (around 50-55 degrees Fahrenheit) to regulate the temperature inside the greenhouse. In winter, this helps keep the greenhouse warm, and in summer, it provides cooler air to prevent overheating.
Efficiency and Sustainability: This method is highly efficient and sustainable. It minimizes the need for additional heating in winter or cooling in summer, leading to significant energy savings. Finch mentions that the running cost for one of his greenhouses is remarkably low, around 87 cents a day.
Versatility in Plant Growth: Thanks to this temperature regulation, a wide variety of plants can be grown, ranging from typical vegetables to exotic fruits like citrus, bananas, and even mangoes.
In essence, Russ Finch's use of pipes in his geothermal greenhouse system is a clever and sustainable way to maintain an ideal growing environment, allowing for year-round cultivation of a diverse range of plants, even in cold climates.

Its pretty fabulous to have the greenhouse attached to the house. We do and It is my Oasis. The only drawback is Summer heat ! Its very difficult to regulate and cool it off when we get a heat wave. This has happened two summer in a row. That usually only last two weeks at the most. We bought a portable air conditioner for our Family room as that is the first room we enter from the greenhouse. I would not trade my greenhouse for anything. Love it.

How blessed are you all, getting to have a tour like this?!? You were probably glad it is on film, you can go back and absorb every single bit of information more than once. We have an older gentleman, in our area who is about 90, or so,. He owns and operates a decent sized fertilizer business. He has a big old farm, cattle, and runs a bible study type of group during the week! He is a huge inspiration to all who lives in our little town. He drove his tractor down to our land one afternoon, when we were having our telephone poles put in. Sadly, a big, beautiful cedar tree was coming down, and he asked for it, which we, OF COURSE, told him he was free to take. He told us that he had his eye on it to build a big cedar cross for his chapel! So he is still doing beautiful carpentry work, as well!
I love older farmers, they're a wealth of knowledge.
