I used to have about 5 big plastic storage baskets (the size of a laundry basket) with everything I owned. Most were things from my mom who has been deceased for 15 years, and my dad who died about 50 years ago when I was little. I didn’t have anything that I was attached to except their things. I sold their furniture, watched strangers form Craig’slist loading up their beautiful things. The things I couldn’t bear to part with, went to a storage unit. Old photo albums of my baby pics with my parents, vacationing in Florida, my dad was City Attorney so my mom had saved newspaper articles about him. I loved them dearly. One day I went to my storage unit and it was empty! It’s a long story about who wiped me out trying to upset me. I never got those things back. I guess they are in a garbage dump somewhere. It was like a punch in the stomach and tho it’s been 4 years, I still hurt for those things I’ll never have again. So minimalism was forced into high gear at that point. I’m sure it had to happen that way in order for me to achieve my goals.
The past two years I have gotten married and have a house and I have so much stuff. It stresses me out. I still have a box of my parents things that I happened to have in my car when the theft happened, and I don’t think I could fit it in my Prius, lol. So for now, I have a house but I still dream of living on the road again. Not sure how that will work out with all the things that have changed in my life. A disfunctional adult daughter who has a toddler and another one on the way, neither of her children will have fathers, so she is really leaning on me and it keeps me from even visiting RTR... but I’m building a cool Prius camper in the hopes that I can go on short get-aways and then only time will tell how it’s going to play out.

Thanks for sharing your story! I understand how it feels to lose items from a storage unit and it really does feel like a punch in the stomach. But I believe everything happens for a reason and that great things can (and often do) come from negative events in our lives. Sometimes we lose things to make room for even better things to come into our lives. I have full confidence that you will achieve your dreams. Determine your priorities, set your goal, make a plan, and stick to it no matter what. You will get there. :D

I worked for 6 months straight before I saw my first $100 not dedicated to a bill. I worked c stores really any work that paid . I'm now 51 and I know I have it made. Reason is I locked in by buying my property. 3rd time I own a property debt free. The first place had no home on it. Building is a bit complicated with zoning and the business of dealing with the man. 2nd place I got jointly with my family I thought I was going to live out my life there. Divorce raped last year I bought this place. My advice is to get a trailer hitch, you can store it and not over cull your life down. Look forward you are going to need a home base. You will need to haul your finds to property. My advice is to get a trailer you can put a 6 x8 box that will pop up to stand in. You want to be able to remove the box to haul your stuff you need for the house you buy.

I hope the WRTR and the RTR was everything you had hoped for. I sure enjoyed it, but also I realized I don’t want to live full time in my Prius. I do want the nomad life but with a van or something that size. You will find whatever it is that meets your goals, and you will make it happen! We are stronger than we think we are. Go catch your dream!
