Low Mag Loadouts for SHTF. Where do they fit in?

  • Not an all inclusive conversation regarding low Mag loadouts, but it's a start and in my personal opinion, if you're going to have just one chest rig, make it a 4+1 low profile (single stack). You can always carry additional mags elsewhere if you really feel you need them and a low profile rig is lightweight, more comfortable and more concealable than a double stack rig with a high mag count.

    I been to Iraq and Afghanistan. Real life infantry. It's a dangerous job. I will not be patrolling "infantry" when shtf. Who ever thinks this is plum stupid and they can have that job. I'd rather hide 😂😂😂

    I like the option to plus up or dress down. If im on my property, im not going to be wearing full kit all the time. So having a loadout that is comfortable to wear all day and gives me enough ammunition to break contact is important. I have a shooting belt for that. 2 rifle mags + 1 in the rifle. 2 pistol mags plus pistol and an ifak with tq. That is perfectly comfortable for all day wear. If I believe i need more. I have chest rigs, plate carriers and bandoliers to fit whatever “mission”.

    I've sort of divided load outs according to threat conditions...
    Green - Normal daily life - my everyday HK 9mm handgun
    Yellow - High probability of conflict - my HK MP5K
    Red - Conflict is imminant - my suppressed Mk18

    Easy choice. I am too old to carry much weight. If I am carrying a 5.56x45 I will probably have 120 rounds and a suppressed 22lr pistol with 30 rounds. #2 possible is a suppressed 9mm PDW with 3+1 Happy sticks and a mag compatible 9mm pistol with 2 17 round mags. Evasion is a necessity. Not into mag dumps or pretend infantry.

  • @politicallyincorrectmechan7989

    If I'm out " doing the thing" I'll be rocking atleast 8+1 most of the time. Reason, I live in a very rural area, I have no indirect fire assets, no air support, and no one to bring me a class five speedball.
    should the need arises. Total agree that there is one rig that fits every need.

    I’ve never been in the service , however I hear so many different perspectives on this. I like the model 6 +1 in the gun. At the same time you better be physically capable of carrying any load out. 😅
    Great Video.

    you're out of your MIND if you're out there in daylight, once shtf. Ditto if you're making noise, dont have armor, dont have night vision, night sights, solar charger, subsonic ammo. There is nothing to be gained by missing a lot, especaily in small groups or alone, vs small groups,. There's no "area fire', no "fire superiority". What you need is silent braninggs, holding the bolt shut on the 22 lr conversion unit in your AR-15 223, with 1 in 9" rifling twist and 60 gr Aquila subsoin 22 ammo. The bullet in those is so long, they have to load it into 22 SHORT cases to have it fit in box magazines.
    There's no supersonic "crack" with this ammo ,but it's got the same 120 ft lbs as normal, supersonic 22lr ammo. It works the action just fine. This stuff keyholes in normal 1in 16" 22lr rifling. It's still lethal with torso hits to 125m, altho it might take the "hittee" days to die of the infection. He WILL die, tho and he'll know it. So he'll probably start screaming and wasting ammo, making noise until one of his buddies shuts him up for good.
    Not one guy in 100 is going to have night vision and charged batteries when shtf. Armor, silenced autoriflles in the same hands will be rare, too, for a few months, at least. You'l have dug your 20m-long tunnel in the first 2 weeks at your BOL< where you've scatter-buried your food BEFORE shtf. This has to be in the woods near your local water-source, cause you wont be going any further. The roads will be full of ambushes
    Stay in the tunnel for a year, coming out only at night and only for an hour while you access a food-bucket. Before emerging and every 5 minutes, scan 360 degrees with passive IR or thermal vision, and it will be VERY unlikely that you have any problems, In a year, 99% of the population will be DEAD, making it much safer (at night, using NOD's) to tend your hidden plots of peanuts and root veggies.
    You dont want anything at ALL to do with this 'fire fight" bs, firing 30+ rds per hit. Since the advent of the AK, almost none of the Medal of Honor winners (who LIVED) has hit more than half a dozen guys with his rifle. You just dont survive having to do that. and it BETTER not take you more than a very few, quiet, shots (at night) to do it, or you wont make it.
    With the 223 'can" sprayed with WD-40 and water, with the bolt of the 22 unit held shut and the subsonic 22 ammo, nobody will hear your shots at 50 FEET. and there will be ZERO flash. You can brain men, dogs, deer or hogs to 50m, no problem at all. Cattle or horses, it has to be temple shots and not more than 20m away, or you wont pierce the skull. The brain lies 3-4" above a line drawn from eye socket to ear-hole on such critters.

    Loadouts are gonna depend on location, what you're doing, and the likelihood you're gonna get in a gunfight.
    People love to pretend that one load out will do everything.
    What you should take for a recon "mission" is wayyyy difderent from what you should take for guard duty, or an ambush.
    It's all dependent on circumstances, and your goal should be to avoid gunfights as much as possible. You might not die in your first gunfight, but statistically you just put yourself one gunfight closer to the end.

    I have 3 different loadouts. 1) Belt kit: pistol, 3+1 mags, ifak, 5.56 rifle mag-1+1, multitool. 2) FLC type 9+1 5.56 rifle, 3) Heavy FLC .308 11+1. I plan to use type 1 for going to the store if there is minimal WROL. 2 is for a 24-48 hr local patrol. 3 if with a plate carrier in the defense only. im a retired Army Medic and too old and broken to try and do high speed 22y/o shit. Im looking to avoid the fight.

    currently out of our collection me and my wife would go with in "shtf"
    me = fn fal 18in barrel 3+1 20rd mags
    wife = ar15 6+1 30rd mags
    but of course situation dictates and realistically wed only likely use handguns outside of hunting most likely if at all
    the logic of having "so much" is purely to break contact if needed- (keeping heads down while we gtfo of a situation)

    Bugging out is a total fantasy for most people. I'm not gonna be doing a ton of movement on foot so i can get away with some weight. Im picking .308 or an AK at least. Probably an AR 10 with a 3.5-10 sierra 3 or AK with a red dot and magnifier or prism. And a shotgun with a flashlight for indoors. Big handgun to accompany the rifle or shotgun, small handgun for concealment. Plenty of ammo for it all. Got an AR in case i need to use available ammo. But none of this matters if you don't have a way to eat and get water so do that first.

    Ive been messin with different mag loadouts for several years now and have tested it out several times on flat range and out in the woods and swaps where i live and "operate" 😂 but in all seriousness, my favorite ive been stickin to here lately for shtf or truck loadout is a 20 round mag in the gun followed by 7, 40 round pmags. Yes 40 round pmags, they are a bit longer but definitely worth it in my opinion. If i remember correctly theyre really not far off from the size standard 30 round ak mags and just kinda make since to me, the carry well on my chest rig and i keep a few on my belt line. Its been good for me, and i dont feel too bad about havin 300 rounds on me ready to go in 8 mags.

    If you're smart, and I tend to believe those who have seen combat and are back stateside, do not fantasize about SHTF as much as everyone else does.
    Personally, my main mission was to make sure to get out of the city and the rent trap, purchase a home on a few acres of land that I can shoot and hunt on and build my home base.
    I'm not going anywhere unless there is such a horrific accident near my property that would warrant me to leave. Then we really have bigger problems.
