Public lobbies being styled like arcades with cabinets has actually been a very popular trend for fighting games. Street Fighter 6, Guilty Gear Strive, many anime fighters, etc., have had lobbies like this for a while.
Yeah, you can tell that necrit have no real experiences with fg or at least the recent ones

These kind of lobbies already exist in most modern fighting games.
The FGC has become more accessible with the years, but it still is a bit insular compared to other ones, I don't blame Necrit not knowing it.
The lobbies aren't really the focus for those that look at it from the outside.

The lobby system isn't some new feature dude. Fighting games have been doing it for a couple of years now.
Even more than a couple of years, for example GUILTY GEAR Xrd REV 2 was released in 2016 and has lobby like that.

@@nosleep268 It kinda *is* new, though. ArcSys was the ONLY developer implementing the feature in fighting games since 2016.
But now Capcom is doing it? Bandai/Namco too? Fucking RIOT is doing it?
It's pretty cool to see someone excited about those types of lobbies that have become quite common in modern fighting games. Although being able to watch the matches from the lobby is really cool and I've never seen it before.

This is pretty standard for modern fighting games, especially with Arcsystem games. Although I am disappointed that it’s not League themed, hopefully they allow theme changes for the lobby.

How exactly a league theme one would be? Just put some league poster on a wall? League universe doesn't have technology that resemble arcarde so it would be weird

Was it really that unexpected? Tekken, SF6 and GGST all have similar lobbies with avatar customization, so building one for 2XKO is just building feature parity with the current market leaders. Is that surprising?

Theres a lot of fgc content creators that can tell you a lot about 2xko, sajam, maximiliandood. But it's really fun to watch necrit because you get the prespective of player outside of the fgc.
This is very common in most fighting games released this last decade, this is a slightly trimmed down copy of the Tekken 8 lobby for the most part.
? Pretty sure Tekken lobby doesn't have this "advance"(lol) spectator mode, where you don't need to load and sync with the players (p2p), because 2XKO using dedicated server.
@@peacepham7838 it looked like it was planned, there's even a stage, namco unfortunately simply seems to drop the ball on it. The arcade feels pretty hollow as there's little to nothing to do...

more than any game, 2XKO looks like Blazblue Cross Tag Battle. its a 2 character fighter with simple controls, and casual lobbys in which you can walk with your avatars

I appreciate the fact that a non-FG player finds the lobbies intuitive and welcoming. IMO that's the point of them.

This sounds like an ign review when they haven’t played a game before and say how the aim button is something that has never been done before
Guilty Gear Strive has this system. It's nice because you can swap between regions and skill level (you can't go to levels below your own but you can go as high as you want). You can also specifically choose who you want to fight against because you can see who they're playing as. This removes the need to have bans. You can play up to 3 matches against the enemy as long as each of you decide to rematch.

The lobby system is pretty bog standard for fighting games, most people skip it and just turn on the auto queue feature in the game to get better matches.
I suspect this will be the same once 2XKO fully launches and the game isn’t forcing everyone into these lobbies.

I don’t feel a sense of community when I’m getting my ass beat online in a fighting game. It’s different if you go to tournaments but if you’re there in your house alone and it’s just you and some guy who spent 500 hours into perfecting the art of a cool anime boy it’s hard to feel it you know?
honestly it not being a league themed lobby is a huge downside to me, i want it to feel like im fighting in runeterra and not have them obliterate any immersion one may have

Guys, maybe in fighting games the lobbies are nothing special but I think that his point mainly is, that this is new and unexpected feature for players coming from other Riot's games (mostly league).
Nah, the criticism is valid here.
He's not just saying "2XKO has lobbies, and that's cool!". He's making big, uneducated claim about how fighting games lack community, so 2XKO including those lobbies is genius.
But that claim makes NO SENSE because those lobbies are standard in almost every fighting game of the last decade.
Spectating from inside the lobby without loading or switching to a different screen feels like a game changer

You're right with Dragonball doing a similar lobby/hub room but you showed the wrong game. The game looks really similar to dragon ball fighterZ same with the combat but you showed a picture of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 which is a completely different genre with a different hub too. 2:55

The oldest one i can think of is blazblue.
However, this looks like it potentially can be the most feature rich implementation with live match viewing and maube even tournament lobbies.
2XKO having a feature almost every good fighting game that came out in the last 5 years is a very nice thing indeed

I am a fighting game player and I still appreciate the hype from Necrit. The FGC can be so annoyingly gatekeepy sometimes.
The way I see it, they took a lot of inspiration from how Tekken 8 and Street Fighter 6 did their lobbies, and they are taking the ideas regarding how they do monetization and gameplay (with added layers) from Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising.
Which is a very good thing. Compared to the other modern FGs, the monetization in that game is so minimal that you don't even notice (before people say it, you can get the skins for Katalina and Lancelot, and others for free with Rupies if you play regularly.). So, crossing fingers they don't screw up the monetization badly when it launches.
Alot of people are pointing out how the lobby feature is a decade old but hey, its my first time hearing about it and is definitely a good hype of the game 😂😂😂

That lobby idea is pretty great. Will even allow Riot to sell cosmetics for the player's avatar.

Each champion does actually have a button in the bottom right which is for their individual lore already. But they definitely could introduce people to more like locations (where each stage is) and the factions.
The lobby system is actually pretty much the exact same lobby system as Granblue Fantasy Versus, i really like that they incorporated that system to 2XKO i liked it a lot back there
I think they missed the opportunity of making the lobbies based on actual Runaterra, like it should have been inspired on a region or something neutral like a pseudo summoners rift thematic and bring the concept of players as summoners back (not canon). That way they could have make the customization of the characters based on Runaterra's clothing and even races. Which could have been a nice tie with the upcoming MMO but in a more lighthearded and chibi looking aesthetic.
The casual lobby thing would be an amazing concept for their potential future MMO

okay I see a lot of comments on the fighting game lobby thing and yes I agree most lobbies are set up as a community like this. Some of riots features from a person that plays fighting games isn't around in other games to my knowledge although i haven't played any street fighter 6 or strive yet, both of which i know hold those lobbies.
But being able to walk up to a cabinet and watch the game immediately or see a big screen playing out 2 people fighting it reminds me of actually going to one of those small events. yes the emotes and avatars are not new. but being able to watch a live stream I personally haven't seen this effect done, usually if you wanna spectate you would need to load up the game after you joined a lobby.
A lot of people are saying many fighting games have that lobby thing but I have never seen that even though I have played fighting games, let the man cook

This is not something revolutionary, i know SF6 has this and i loved it. It was very fun to chat with other players, share knowledge, watch beef unfold etc + SF6 has the best character customization out there. Hilarious ass characters pull up.
The "Fight Lounge" is something a lot of FGC people expected. All new gen FG's are getting one, and I expect Riot to squeeze every single amount of money they can with chibi skins for your avatar.

The point is that it is more common for them to have a public lobbies styled like arcades than having just a matchmaking system, I know you probably dont have much exprience with fighting games but i would say if 2XKO that would be kinda disapointing
ive gotten over the mobile vs pc league exclusive skin and maybe its because weve been through it already but having 2xko having its own skins just makes more sense than wild rift to me

Why are so many comments focused on the lobby mechanic and not all the crazy cool and unique stuff in them? Especially because every mechanic added beyond a menu should be praised if done well.
