  • bottling a batch of homebrand brew which i used a pack of California Lager yeast. as the yeast was proportionally the most expensive part of this cheap brew, I had to reuse it!

    Best video on the internet on reusing yeast!! You figured out the same as me, after sitting through all those poxy 35 minute long , super complex , total BS videos about " washing yeast"
    You just put a bit of the slurry from the bottom of the FV into a jar ....and either keep it in the fridge or chuck it straight in the next batch!
    JOB DONE!!
    We need to *take back* craft/real beer from the hipsters!

    I agree with you that they waffle on and that is to pu it politely about washing beer lees. been brewing since the seventies and now they have gone well up in prices (beer kit) so buying malt which is at times cheaper helps out. so hence trying your method and making a tea beer with malt and saved yeast. thanks phil

      cheers phil! yeah malt is a good way to go if you can get it cheaply

    To reduce/stop clogging up FV tap, i raise the front up a bit . hopefully crud etc is more to back part of FV. Other option is hops in bag ( like a tea bag ) with a magnet in it . when you are ready to introduce hop bag just remove external magnet from outside FV wall . NO O2 introduced. hope this makes sense . cheers

      thats an interesting idea with the magnet! yeah ill go back to using a bag for hops after this

      The magnet idea lost me. When you say introduce hop bag did you mean remove? I have to weigh my hops bag down with stainless tablespoons because with 100g + hops pellets in there they float like a damn pollywaffle at bondi beach . 4 tablespoons seems to be perfect for 100G of hops , at day 5 of dryhopping its floating juuuust at the surface with 90% submerged in the brew, and i can pluck it out off the surface

      @@basichomebrew610 simple is always better. I have a fermzilla tri-conical and trub collection for this should be super easy.

    Fast Homebrew is great channel. But damn, didn't realise you used a different yeast for the home brand lager. I've used the one that came with it.

    Ive been reusing just tossing wort on the old trub. Works great for me... but im making the same style over 3x.

    Hmm I am bottling this weekend and I dry hopped a week and a half ago and was worried about clogging up the bottling wand as I just chucked the hops in the top.I always syphon out to the bottling bucket so am thinking I might use a sterilised sieve to catch the crud as I transfer , see how we go

    • @lancehobbs8012
      @lancehobbs8012 Před 2 lety +1

      I only ever did that *once* . Dry hopping " commando" ....no way
      Hop socks , happily ever after mate👍

      I use a lil filter with a fine mesh on the end of my syphon pickup when i transfer from fermenter to bottling bucket and it works very well.
