EPISODE 6: Unusual Theriotypes
During this episode I'll feature 3 theriotypes with quiet unusual theriotypes. Lopori, Zed and Hemlock.
These 3 give detailed explainations of what it's like to have unusual theriotypes, what defines a theriotype as 'unusual',how the community treats unusual theriotypes and simply so much more.
They also give specific advice for those of you still trying to figure out your theriotypes, or even for those who may have unusual theriotypes themselves!
INTERVIEWED:
- Lopori: 28 year old therian who identifies as a bonobo (ape).
- Zed: A teenager who identifies as a moth (specifics unknown, insect).
- Hemlock: 18 year old therian who identifies as a roadrunner (avian).

Zed wants to clarify that the way their awakening is presented in this video is misleading. They had already been questioning their theriotype for a while before the event they described.

"[BEGIN MISSING PART] I confirmed my moth theriotype in the autumn of 2020. I had already been questioning it for a long while before [END MISSING PART]
- then, but one night I was looking out of an open window, and while I was feeling the cold air on my face and looking into the dark sky, trying to figure out whether or not I really was a moth, I had a really strong mental shift. I became acutely aware of all the ways my human body was different from a moth’s, and it suddenly felt really unnatural to inhabit. At the time, it didn’t feel unnatural in a bad way. It was like I had finally put on glasses after spending years stumbling around in a blurry world, and it turned out that the clear world looked like a funhouse mirror. I spent most of the rest of the night just marveling at how weird my body was, laughing at how awkward I became at using my fingers.
I started having dysphoric shifts not too long afterwards."

I find it so adorable that Zed’s voice sounds.. moth-like, I don’t know how to explain it exactly, but the tone and pitch simply sounds so similar to how I’d imagine a moth character in a cartoon to sound 😌

I am trying to find my theriotype for 5 months. I know I have an animal spirit, I know I am a therian but I have not figured out which animal am I. I have tried many different ways to find my theriotype, but I didnt succeed. I have tried meditation and shifting music but it didn't work as well. I will not stop searching and trying to find my theriotype. I'm just tired seeing others have theriotypes that are really connected to, and now there is me, that I know I have an animal spirit but I don't know which animal I am really. I have many problems and anxiety, I don't really believe in myself and I haven't found my real self as a human yet and I think that's why I cannot find my theriotype, because my therioype is myself, and I haven't found my real self yet. My unsupportive parents make it harder. My parents believe that therianthropy is just childish fake thing, and when I do Quadrobics sometimes, they just scream at me that I'm not an animal and I need to stand up.. I'm tired of this thing and I'm really sad that they don't accept me for who I really am I hope they will understand someday. Your videos make me happy everyday. I also watch @opal.n.friends 's videos on tik tok, and they make me feel free, they make me feel that I am in nature with her. There is no nature in the place I live, only roads, buildings, mean neighbors and unsupportive parents. I went on the park yesterday, and I was alone for a bit, and I just howled as loud as I could. I dont know why, I just needed to. Thankfully my parents didnt undertood that it was me, because it sounded kinda realistic. I wish I had therian friends or something, ( there are not therians in my country ). If you still read this, thank you so much. You are super kind. Have a nice day/night!!
I'm really sorry you're going through this :( just know you're not alone with what you're going through! Finding your theriotype is a long and tricky process, sometimes things can click easily and sometimes it takes a bit of searching. I'd recommend looking for therian packs or communities, you could talk to people with similar experiences and in general get support from others. It is of course what you're comfortable with, you said you have anxiety so you may not want to interact with others much, but I highly recommend trying to find others you could talk to about this stuff.
What I found that helped me find my theriotype is to gather every animalistic memory that u hv ever experienced and comparing it to the animals who do those stuff.
For example, since you r trying quadrobics, do u ever felt the desire to walk on fours before? If yes, u could be a mammal or lizard or any animal that walk on fours.
Basically start somewhere general then slowly narrow down the species and sub species

I feel a small connection with a cat, I have experienced one dream, but it was very short, like someone got me into the dream, and I was in the wrong place and I immediately got out. It was a cat looking at something, it was close to me. It was really dark brown, pattern like a tuxedo cat with messy ( not shaped ) orange spots on it back. Green eyes. I dont think I feel a connection with this cat, but I think it was a sign. When I walk on all fours sometimes I get mini shifts, like when I lay down, I look at something, stare at it and then I jump and catch it, then jump around it playfully. I am not thank good In quadrobics, and I get tired very easilh when I do quads, and In the mini shifts I feel so energized. Also, I feel a connection with canines, I howl to the moon almost everytime when I am alone, I bark to other dogs, I have a tail phantom shift everytime someone judges me, or when I am happy, or shy. I feel I can move it, but it is not really there. I bark back to other neighborhood dogs, and I feel like we are having a conversation but I cannot understand them properly. I have a therian friend that lives next to me, ( I think I said it again ) but I dont believe she is a real therian, she is just trying quads and stuff to be like me. Her theriotypes are tortoiseshell cat, arctic wolf and panda. Her mother hates all animals, so my friend didnt even try to tell her, because she is gonna be in a huge trouble. I believe I am a cat therian by 80%, and a wolf, or a dog breed, or a coyone, or a fox. I will still do lots of reasearch. Thank you for answering me!!

Awesome! My theriotype isn't rare at all, (I'm a grey wolf) so it was interesting to see what it is like to have a rare theriotype.
Also, I must admit the moth therian's voice is very nice.

A little bit of elaboration on my awakening story that didn't make it to the final edit:
Id learned of the species when I was 16 from a documentary and felt an instant draw to them that I continued to explore over time. I found them familiar and comforting so I used to look at videos of them all the time as well as learn about em. And something about their bodies and life style made more sense than humanity. Also at the same time the dysphoria started and that dysphoria was only lessened when I would think of myself as a bonobo in some symbolic fashion. And the furries made me feel seen because they would all call me lopori the bonobo and that felt affirming.

thanks for adding! yeh sorry sometimes I need to cut things a little to stay within a certain time frame or when I believe it was later on aswell included etc. Hence why I let the video be approved before release, I wouldn't want anyone to feel like I cut too much out either ofcourse.
@@PDTherian makes total sense it needs to be accessible and hold the audience's attention. Nothing worse than rambling the viewer to sleep.

Very informative! I always get excited when I see you've posted something new. And I'm glad I'm not alone when it comes to having a mermaid/merman kin, my experiences with that kin are similar to hers. I actually remember when I was a child I'd spend all day long just day dreaming about mermaids and sirens lol.
I am not a therian, I am an otherkin, but I can relate to these experiences, since my kintype is pooka, a goblin/fae mythical creature. I haven't seen any other pooka in the community yet.

Not sure if that's actually rare but so far I haven't seen another one.
I am a toad therian, as well as a prehistoric amphibian!! *croaks* Those are my main theriotypes. I also have special connections with mushrooms/fungi, insects, arthropods and invertebrates such as slugs and worms, algae, and the microscopic world.

I am a ape therian like Lopori and its an odd experience as there really isnt phantom shifts for me as apes are very similar to humans. But rather i get mental shifts that feel silly and more animalistic. it was hard to tell what i was due to lack of shifts but then i took into consideration that maybe my theriotype was humanoid
Lot of people don't take me seriously, I lost a partner I was close to for a year and several months, my longest relationship. They left because they didn't believe in my past lives and thought something was wrong with me, we're still friends I understand why some ppl judge me on it. I've lost several other partners for the same reason, but now I'm with another member of one of the communities I'm in, which is otherkin. *I'm therian/otherkin*
