Cody’s Final Strike: “Why doesn’t God Stop Rape?”

  • Cody is back to ask another difficult question, this one about rape. What he doesn’t realize is that he is assuming God exists by even asking the question. Frank explains why, and asks Cody if he’d read Frank’s book (FYI: Unfortunately, Frank hasn’t heard back from Cody. Cody, if you read this, contact us through Crossexamined.org).

cH Pinki without God, you have no moral barometer or standard between good and evil. I say this all the time. As an atheist, you literally just make up what you “feel” right and wrong is. I’ve seen atheists say “rape can’t be that bad sometimes because there rapist can learn a lesson and turn their life around for the better.” These are the types of mental gymnastics people do without God to make themselves feel like they are morally superior beings. Such a double minded sad way of thinking

HBB Films Thankyou. Yeah, that same double mindedness says “a cell on Mars is life! But that heartbeat in your womb, that’s nothing.” We spend our entire existence trying to figure out how to fill the void in our souls by becoming our own God and doing want WE want to do, when the answer the entire time is to let God take the wheel, as cliche as that may sound, and do it HIS way, it’s the most profound thing a person can do. That’s why God is free will, God is choice, God is the foundation of America and democracy. To whom much is given much is expected, that’s the most heavy verse in the entire Bible. We have an ability to choose almost anything in America, we can do whatever we want, destroy ourselves in millions of ways, but we also have the choice to know Jesus and truly choose Him and let the spirit guide our lives while we contaminate our areas with love like a singular coffee bean heated in water. We chase understanding until we ultimately meet our doom through our own transgressions. But Jesus just wanted to let us know we are an the infinite wheel of insanity continuously returning to our “vomit” and heart break over and over because we are not humble enough to say “you know what Jesus, I’ve done it all these ways, it doesn’t work, it never works, let me try it yours.” Best thing that ever happened to me. I got healed from a horrendous opiate addiction. Fully healed, miraculously. It’s not a surprise though, that’s who God is. Many Christians put God in a box out of their own wisdom. That’s a reoccurring theme, people want to do it THEIR way. Not totally Gods way and that’s why we don’t see God and the miraculous like we all should be.

Ευλάμπιος Μαντέκας Bro, you’re totally missing the point. Let me let you in on a little history lesson. God judges the intentions of your heart. God never chooses just a normal person to bless, he chooses the worst of the worst, he chooses the person in an area where everyone will go “that guy was messed up, how did he change? How is he a blessed man now.” That’s the whole point. He does it with David, he certainly does it with Paul who killed Christians, etc. now let’s get into the law and the old covenant pre Jesus. Pre Jesus people had to sacrifice animals, blood sacrifice with a priest at an alter for the sins of the people. This is ALWAYS how it’s been, blood shed for our transgressions. But this wasn’t an effective system, we needed a perfect sacrifice through Jesus to save all of man kind to create a new covenant where people have freedom to make choices for themselves without the potential of being struck down by God for not sacrificing an animal due to our sin. So basically before Jesus, people sacrificed animals and God had given the Jews the 10 commandments. The Jews were Gods people and the law kept everything together, but just as he KNEW humans would do, because we always do it, they started to think “oh we’re special because we eat special food and do certain traditions God has given us and taught us, and we follow the law “perfect” so God loves us more.” This infuriates God because he doesn’t care what you’re doing on earth with your actions if your HEART isn’t for him. We see this in Islam, Catholicism, Judaism, etc. any large religion, they do traditional things like wear robes and use holy water and eat special foods. This is ridiculous to God. That’s why he sent Jesus and said “it’s not about a law, it’s not about what you’ve done. Don’t fall into the ways of the world. Trust me and I’ll show you the way. You don’t need 10 commandments, you don’t need anything like that.” So that’s why the prophecy says “America will show the Jews that Jesus is the messiah.” Because they are still to this day caught up in growing their beards out, etc to try and please God because they Certainly believe in God, they just don’t believe in Jesus, so just like in the Bible, God has to go bless messed up super power America to show the whole world what Jesus is all about. To show the Jews especially. Just like he did with Paul. So law is a great thing, government law, 10 commandments, and it holds major purpose. But the problem is when people start trusting that law and acting like they are superior when the only thing that makes a person worth even living on this earth is a relationship with Christ

@@reocejacobs1259 It's not the "holding responsible" that's the underpinning of an ideal justice system, it's to protect people. We can't "hold responsible" a tornado, or even wild animals (those who tried look like idiots). If someone has a mental condition and is violent, we prioritize the safety of others, not inflicting punishment on someone with a mental condition. On some level, we are all on the "mental condition" continuum. You see? A society that adopts my position would be more humane, gracious and merciful than yours.

@rigdriscoll Comparing human actions to Tornadoes is a false equivalence friend. Obviously someone who has mental issues is generally excused from being held responsible for their actions. Our society is based on the idea that people are either punished or rewarded for the choices that they make. If you say there is no free will, you are essentially stating that people have no choice in whether or not they choose to do good or evil. Like I said, you can say there's no free will, but I promise you wouldn't want to live in a society that has decided that there is no free will.

Cody is lost however. He doesn’t realize that God yes allow certain evils to happen in this world but for one, because Satan challenged his authority to rule over mankind. The rebellion in the garden shows that humans chose a course away from God. Satan said humans could rule themselves without him. God in his perfect justice said ok. And so he allowed humans to express their free will and live independently of him for all these years. History shows that it is marked with violence and bloodshed. Of course God doesn’t like the path many are choosing. But if God intervened in every affair with humans he would in a sense be revoking their free will and not to mention seeing the amount of ungrateful people who would never realize the things he’s done to stop certain evils. The Bible says this for anyone who wants to do good. Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart, so that I can answer him who taunts me. -proverbs 27:11. Satan constantly does this to God. He claims humans are better off. Yet he’s the reason for rapes and murders and genocides not God. God will ultimately rid this world of evil. Undo all the damages done by the perpetrators. evil exist in this world but he does not rejoice in them. He feels hurt at the sight of human tragedies. His appointed time is not yet. The Bible encourages Christians to be patient. In just a little while the wicked will be no more, though you look for him, he will not be found. -Psalms 37:10.

God could have easily made the conditions by which she could have escaped. By God allowing the rapist to exercise his will he denied the will of the victim. Intervention isn't necessarily prevention. She could have been raped, beaten, and held hostage for a day, week, or month but her will was denied for 24 years. Remember please, Intervention is not Prevention. God can intervenes in human affairs without effecting freewill. It is i. His lack of intervention that he allows the victims will to be denied. (Forbes) Moses did not reserve the girls for the purpose of debauchery, as Paine ignorantly pretends; for that was contrary to his own laws, nor did he wantonly kill the innocent, which he also strictly forbade, and which he would have been still more afraid to do, if he had been an impostor. But he preserved the lives of those girls who might be presumed innocent, and who might live to do good, while he took the revenge of the Lord (ver. 3,) upon the rest. (Haydock)"

@@jlock9085 Paul wasnt an atheist. He was a devout pharisee. Only the fool says there is no God. This is the problem with modern apologetics. We are expected to convince people that God is real. 1st Peter 3:15 states
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,
And many atheists use this and demand that Christians justify Gods existence and prove he is real. But taken in context when Paul was converting and proving that Jesus is LORD it was not to atheists. It was to those in the synagogue and then the gentiles who had their own belief systems. Nowhere in scripture do any of the disciples seem to make an argument for the existence of God (at least that I have read). So modern apologetics is a very different battle than it was 2000 years ago. At least with other religions and even polytheism, universalism, pantheism, etc there is a common thread, namely that there is something beyond the material. But most atheists seem to be strictly materialists by their views (though so quick and defensive to decry they simply reject God for lack of evidence because they often lack the backbone to follow through on their beliefs or lack thereof)
Now that being said I think many atheists are just waiting to have a spiritual experience and the passion they have is an outward frustration of being hungry deep down. Hungry for knowledge and they need a higher level of spiritual and biblical truth than most people who receive the gospel.

The difference between him and Paul is that Paul believed that what he was doing was what God wanted.
      Paul believed, Cody doesn't.
Edit: I won't speak against Cody, but just because someone says they would believe if Christianity were true, doesn't mean that they will believe. Some people say that with the belief that Christianity isn't true and that nothing can convince them that it is true.
The issue I'm seeing is that what he said in answer to that question is like the Jews whom Paul wrote about in 1 Corinthians chapter 1.
For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

@@footsoldier1188 "a whole book which has been found to be historically accurate." You think the bible is historically accurate? So when the bible says god used his powers to make a donkey speak and have a conversation with a person you think that is not only real but has been verified? Citation needed. "And has proved prophecies." Prophecies are actually one of the worst standards. One, unless a prophecy is extremely specific where only one instance can fulfill it you can say anyone anywhere at any time could fulfill it. Like when Nostradamus said the two brothers would fall and people said that he foretold 9/11. Not to mention if you tell your religion's followers that X will happen and those people actively work to make X happen is that prophecy or akin to a cook fulfilling my food order? Two, you would also need to show who wrote the bible and when it was written to know the words were written before the events and not after. "Also has given us history which the Smithsonian erased." Citation needed. "Many proofs, don’t be like the rest of the people who claim the Bible has been rewritten." But the bible has been rewritten. The fact that there is an old and new testament shows this very plainly. Not to mention there are many translations and versions of the bible like the king james version and the new international version. All of which has different languages and word usage. Which by definition means the bible has been rewritten multiple times. "Scrolls have been found that are exactly what is written in the KJV". Unless those scrolls are also written in English that's not grammatically possible. Language translations always change words and how they are used because different languages don't always have the same meaning for the same work or how it is presented in a sentence.

    • @nathan1sixteen
      @nathan1sixteen Před 3 lety +32

??? Respectful? How is he respectful?
First, he asks "gotcha" questions. I mean, the next question he's gonna ask Frank is "Can God make a mountain so big that he can't move it?"
Second, he then doesn't actually answer clarifying questions Frank asks. Frank asks "how do you know something is wrong", Cody replies "Well, everyone knows", Frank says "So, the majority decides what's right and wrong", Cody says "No, but you just know", and he then attacks Frank for catching him in circular reasoning, accusing Frank of being "Pro-rape" or saying God is "Pro-Rape", both of which are accusations, not forwarding the discussion at all.
Cody's entire little act is him trying to discredit Frank by getting him mad (calling him "Pro-Rape" in the video, calling him a potential murderer or religious fanatic in another video, etc). There are ways you can ask the question "If God is a good and loving God, why does he allow bad things to happen" without taking it to the extreme case, but Cody always goes there. He does so because he's making an emotional argument, whereas Frank is making a moral argument. Cody goes to rape, because when Frank asks "by what standard do you say rape is bad", I mean, there aren't too many people in the world who would say that rape isn't horrible, so it makes Frank sound bad, but in reality, without a standard, it truly is just an opionion, even if it's a widely held opionion. There have and still are many a culture that don't see rape as completely bad. In fact, in some middle eastern cultures, a man raping a woman doesn't get punished, the woman he takes gets punished. The thing is, Cody easily could've asked Frank about lying, and all Frank would have to say is "well, do you think lying is wrong" and Cody would probably say yes, but then if given various scenarios like "well, what about little lies, you know, exaggerating details of an event or not including that $100 you made doing some work for your neighbor on your taxes", Cody would probably say that those things are ok, though technically they are lies, so his argument falls apart.
So, no, Cody isn't being respectful, he's intentionally asking questions to try and provoke Frank to anger, but Frank knows this and he stays calm.

All his utterings are nonsensical. He didn't have any impact on the humanity untill some emperor some 200 years later forced his ideas on people. Even then look at all the cruelty and injustice that his followers wreaked on others.

I was molested as a kid... didn’t share it for years and it was such a burden to carry in secret. I was angry how it shaped my view of sex and how I treated women. I didn’t know how that trauma manifested until I shared it. It seemed maybe not even a reality until I shared it. The first time I ever shared it in a group of people was hard. Afterwards a young guy came up to me and wept as he told me he was molested as a kid and never shared it. Since then I have talked to many people about my experience and God allowing me to walk through that to have a connection to His kids all made sense. It’s a blessing that I can talk to people about something that haunted me forever.

I was sexually abused as a child as well...at times even inside the church...in supposedly God's own house. I have also formed connections with people who have gone through the same.
But I don't share the same view as you about God himself. Some of those kids I grew up with that had the same thing happen to them ended up taking their own lives. The trauma is obviously a part of it, but the other big part was the absence of God in those moments. We were vulnerable, defenseless kids and God wasn't there to protect or help us. God can never reconcile that with me if he had the power to stop it and simply chose not to. The trust will never be there in this life or anything that comes after.
And you can't fake that. If I say right now I accept Jesus/God as my savior and love and trust him, if God is able to see into our hearts he would know it's not true. I don't respect, love, or trust him if he let innocent children be molested if he could have stopped it. Inaction is an action. He is complicit in it if he didn't stop it when he could have.
If I deserve to go to hell for believing that or to have my soul annihilated for that, then there's nothing I can do. But I think that would show greater flaws in a God that created people with personalities to think differently than him, and then condemns them.

Well I mean that is kind of their stated purpose, they say the whole point of apologetics is to defend the faith not to convert unbelievers.
Apologists believe that the bible instructs us to "defend the faith" and take that to mean defending God by way of philosophy. But the bible doesn't do that, it instructs us to contend for the faith (that is, to correct corrupting doctrines and beliefs [for example that people needed to be physically circumcised to receive salvation, which was an issue that was clearly present in the time that the new testament was written]), and to be ready to give an answer for the hope that we have (that is to have something to fall back on for what we believe [to have a word from the Lord to fall back upon for what we believe, whether it be written word or spoken word] this Paul demonstrated and Luke commended the Jews in Berea for doing in Acts when they searched the scriptures to see if what Paul said was true).
We aren't suppose to engage with unbelievers (particularly atheists because they don't believe in any god) in matters of philosophy because it doesn't profit them anything. We are to preach the gospel to people because faith comes by hearing the word of God not by philosophy, and faith is what brings people to salvation.

He wants to butter him up because he knows he has a question that he wants a specific answer to and is doing everything he can to guide Frank into answering the question how he wants him to answer. He doesn’t care what Frank’s answer actually is, he wants Frank to answer it according to as it pleases him. That’s also why he phrases his questions with yes or no. It’s like going up to a man and asking “do you still beat your wife? Yes or no?” This atheist isn’t looking for truth, he is looking for affirmation to uphold his unbelief. He doesn’t want to believe. That’s why atheists sit on theodicy questions, trying to provoke strong emotion to dismantle God. They don’t like conviction, they want to be their own God, so they seek out reasons for hating God. They aren’t seeking truth, they are seeking for anything to give them the feeling of validation for why they should hate the God of the Bible. Cody can't wrap his head around to main concepts in my opinion one is that God is justified in anything that he does with his creation because it belongs to him and two is that free will demands disobedience because when there is a choice then there is a chance that the someone at sometime somewhere is going to disobey because the creation is not the creator and we will never be perfect without being literally apart of him that is the only way one of us becomes perfect like him but even then we have our past we can't be God and it's better that way.

    • @tinupeter
      @tinupeter Před 3 lety +3

      @@nikokapanen82 Did God create evil?
At first it might seem that if God created all things, then evil must have been created by God. However, evil is not a "thing" like a rock or electricity. You cannot have a jar of evil. Evil has no existence of its own; it is really the absence of good. For example, holes are real but they only exist in something else. We call the absence of dirt a hole, but it cannot be separated from the dirt. So when God created, it is true that all He created was good. One of the good things God made was creatures who had the freedom to choose good. In order to have a real choice, God had to allow there to be something besides good to choose. So, God allowed these free angels and humans to choose good or reject good (evil). When a bad relationship exists between two good things we call that evil, but it does not become a "thing" that required God to create it.
Perhaps a further illustration will help. If a person is asked, "Does cold exist?" the answer would likely be "yes." However, this is incorrect. Cold does not exist. Cold is the absence of heat. Similarly, darkness does not exist; it is the absence of light. Evil is the absence of good, or better, evil is the absence of God. God did not have to create evil, but rather only allow for the absence of good.
God did not create evil, but He does allow evil. If God had not allowed for the possibility of evil, both mankind and angels would be serving God out of obligation, not choice. He did not want "robots" that simply did what He wanted them to do because of their "programming." God allowed for the possibility of evil so that we could genuinely have a free will and choose whether or not we wanted to serve Him.
As finite human beings, we can never fully understand an infinite God (Romans 11:33-34). Sometimes we think we understand why God is doing something, only to find out later that it was for a different purpose than we originally thought. God looks at things from a holy, eternal perspective. We look at things from a sinful, earthly, and temporal perspective. Why did God put man on earth knowing that Adam and Eve would sin and therefore bring evil, death, and suffering on all mankind? Why didn't He just create us all and leave us in heaven where we would be perfect and without suffering? These questions cannot be adequately answered this side of eternity. What we can know is whatever God does is holy and perfect and ultimately will glorify Him. God allowed for the possibility of evil in order to give us a true choice in regards to whether we worship Him. God did not create evil, but He allowed it. If He had not allowed evil, we would be worshipping Him out of obligation, not by a choice of our own will.

I’m so thankful that God by His mercy, overruled my carnal sin nature , slave to sin supposed free will, and by His grace only, had mercy on me , and saved me for His own glory!! Thank you Father for loving me enough to go against my corrupt free will. I will praise you for eternity!

...i think you missed the sarcasm in Cody's voice. There was not once that he used the word "doc" where he was being respectful.
