    Comrade, did you just abandon your position because of minor inconvenience? Disrespect to Stalin. 10 years gulag.

      @ThePreparedNorseman  Před 4 lety +1

      Should have made a sibirian log fire, or brought a fellow comrade for body heat. Don’t think I would survive for long in Gulag hehe! Got plans for doing the «recomended» shelter set up sometime down the road. Also got the modern version of it to try out. On the plus side the palatka seemed pretty dang waterproof as the ground was real soggy. Thank you for watching, hoping to see more videos from you soon :)

      Checked my weight with the gear - Weight carried in the veshmeshok 11kg - weight including bedroll horseshoe over shoulder 14 kg - that includes water and food. Too much for the old potato sack in my opinion hehe!

    What a kewl place. Looks like a cave. Cold happens. Now ya know. Gotta try stuff to see. I'd prefer my Kelty Zero Down bag to a wool blanket too. But I do have both.

      I much prefer my sleeping bag to this old soviet /cowboy set up in winter hehe! Also forgot my pillow at home. I will try the shelter set up with the palatka next If I can find a suitable bit of ground to set it up on. Thanks for watching!

    I like seeing someone call bullshit on those fakeTubers. I've seen a few guys with little or no fire claiming to wrap up in a space blanket and sleep 8 hours on the ground in freezing temps. Bullshit! You're 100% right- if any of the bushcrafter heroes of legend (eg Kephart, etc) could have had a real sleeping bag and silnylon tarp they'd have ditched their wool and canvas post haste!

    • @ThePreparedNorseman
      @ThePreparedNorseman  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks mate! Indeed, they would probably survive keeping the fire going all night but won’t be getting any sleep thats for sure :)

  • @hauki9286
    @hauki9286 Před 4 lety +2

    Seems like you had fun there. I like to use wool blankets, but as a stand-alone sleep system its not very good. I use it in the breaks to keep me warm. Sitting cushion and in a sleeping bag as a liner or if sleeping by a fire to protect the bag against sparks. Retro camping is fun. Freezing oneself is part of it :)

    • @ThePreparedNorseman
      @ThePreparedNorseman  Před 4 lety +1

      I never carry wool blankets because they are just stupid heavy hehe! Same weight or more than a winter sleeping bag and in no way as effective. It did improve the insulation value of the foam pad by a good bit tho, can see it used as an extra layer to lay on If someone wants to carry it for me :)

    • @hauki9286
      @hauki9286 Před 4 lety +1

      @@ThePreparedNorseman I like to think that is has a little different purpose than sleeping bag. But yes as a insulator it is not so good. Better would be those knitted woolen blankets (if you want to camp old style), but they have their own problems.

    Like you I prefer to be honest on everything and how I present my videos, if something fails it fails, if I dont like something I say it as I see it...its just how I roll. I too have seen so so many fake buschcrafting and camping channels its mind boggling lol. Only a few on here that are true campers and bush guys that are honest and truly know what they are doing in the wild. Do I, nope but I can learn from you guys. But man that looked brutally cold, you know your body better than anyone else! If your cold and feel in danger or need to get, you go...better to be safe than sorry I say! Looks like what we call Spam over here(canned stuff lol). Its ok if you fry the stuff but man its salty as ever! Cya on the next adventure my friend!

    • @ThePreparedNorseman

      Thanks mate! Really is a bit strange how those fake commercial channels gets so popular, guess people watch for pure entertainment and not to learn? When I woke at 4am I was pretty cold, a setup like this requires a log fire If you plan to be comfortable. I think this is a bit more towards pulled pork than spam, like you put pulled pork in a blender and then can it? Can be spread on toast. Another bit of kit I did not mention but that you can see in the background is the niteize radiant 100 lantern, really like it!

    • @WaltRevenJr
      @WaltRevenJr Před 4 lety +1

      @@ThePreparedNorseman Maybe that is what I kept seeing, maybe I was seeing things but I could have sworn to the right of the fire I was seeing eyeshine or something flickering like a glow bug or something like that! Was strange, I didnt mention it cause I thought I was seeing things LOL. My dog has a small little niteize lite up thing on her collar for when I walk her at night, its very very effective too! And yea mate so many fake odd channels too, just for fun stuff I guess who knows. Some are funny and just fun though and they are honest about things. A lot though will do what you said in the video, act like they camped out for the night but I know they didnt LOL.

    • @ThePreparedNorseman
      @ThePreparedNorseman  Před 4 lety +1

      Its hanging on the rocks in the back, really good light compared to a old fashioned style of lantern. The small light (eyes/ghost) are just the camera lense being what it is, a phone camera hehe!

    • @WaltRevenJr
      @WaltRevenJr Před 4 lety +1

      @@ThePreparedNorseman Was getting rdy to ask if it was light bouncing off a camera lens lol. Guess you answered before I could ask haha. I have a really tiny cheap lantern but its really cool. Maybe I will show it sometime soon, got it as a gift but man its neat and collapses down to nearly nothing...can be used as a flash light as well but lantern mode works better on mine.

    Awesome and honest too ! I get cold too with this kind of set ups and conditions but its survivable . Are we the only ones who getting it cold sometimes lol! Revering to your fake tuber story :) wich I agree! Nice to see the gear and the siberian tripod that works like a charm. Nice film thanks.

    • @ThePreparedNorseman
      @ThePreparedNorseman  Před 4 lety +1

      Thank you Martin! With a fire going it would probably be fine, but keeping to the theme of sleeping in the trenches they probably did not have roaring log fires :) Too many fake «survival shelter» videos with people pretending to sleep out when they are not. Take care!

    Very interesting video brother. I m pretty sure that I enjoyed this more than you did. I hope that you got some sleep. For the record I haven’t done any overnighters this s winter just too cold. Everything is real on my channel except for me. All the best. Rod

      Evening was great fun :-) Had some hours of sleep before I woke up cold, next time ill try with a log fire and see how it works out. Maybe combined with the «reccomended» soviet tarp set up. Knew you must have been CGI when you did that yoga stuff!!!

      It was hehe! Don’t think I would last long in the soviet army (very few did). This system really needs a log fire for the night, but those guys back then did not have that luxury so neither did I. Going to be doing the current russian shelter system and also the norwegian one when time allows it. Hopefully soon :)

    of a bummer!
