This video will show how to prep the roof surface, apply layout tape, drill hole locations, insert the LED Christmas lights, install the caps, and electrical requirements needed. Make sure you have a good quality ladder prior to installing these LED lights. Once installed you can plug in your lights whenever you feel light being festive and avoid the need to ever get back onto you roof to install Christmas lights ever again. Just for the sake of information. Here is some basic pricing info. The lights themselves cost $5 per foot for white and $8 per foot for color changing - must be purchased in 25' increments. The basic install kit for white is $125 and for color changing it is $450. If you need flashing to install the lights, it is $2.50 per foot. As an example, let's say you have 100 feet of lighting to cover (that may seem like a lot but would not quite cover the front of my home doing gutters only and no edge work). For a basic white system that has no remote control, is warm white only, and does not have zones, you are looking at $625 plus tax and shipping. If you need flashing, it would be $850. Now if you want a multi-zone, color changing system with remote control, you are looking at $1,250 without flashing and $1,500 with flashing.

    If you’re thinking of getting these, don’t. We recently had these installed and they worked for all of two weeks before there was an issue. We paid an electrician a massive sum to install. Their instructions were spotty, and only available on the internet. Not to mention their coverings for the lights are flimsy and absolutely not what you see here. After Christmas they stopped working altogether and we had to be on the phone with support which had no idea how to fix it. They said it was a pairing issue. Remember that these lights are thousands of dollars. They don’t have a home office and your call gets directed to whomever is receiving calls that day, and it makes for them not knowing the full situation and asking the same things of you. After three calls and another visit from the electrician, by the way I had to pay him more for that visit, they deem it’s the receiver. I sent back the box as they asked, by the way, I had to pay for postage too, and they sent me the same receiver back and said it worked fine. I asked why did you not just send me a new one just in case? They said because they thought it would be easier because the box was already paired. A bit later they sent a message stating they were sorry, but they unpaired it to check the receiver and we will need to do it again. We then had the electrician out again, and the electrician installed the box again, I demanded to speak to an actual installer this time. The installer said it’s the receiver 😂, send it back. We paid for postage again, this time they wanted the receiver and some other items. They said they would send new ones. Fast forward to March and we have the electrician out again we have now received what we think is new. The electrician says that they sent the same box, and he knows it, they deny it. However, he reconnects the things and the lights finally work again. We ended up paying the electrician 270 extra dollars due to the waste of visits. Not only that the company admits to no wrong doing and swears by their do it yourself methods. Absolutely the worst investment I made on my home, and I can’t say that they work now and will do so for a long time. Beware. Go elsewhere

    If you guys don't want to spend thousands for everlights, try sw2811 led strings. Much cheaper. Not only are they cheaper but you get rgb, and a light every 3" rather than 9" thats 3x the lights for a fraction of the price!!

    • @Galicia322
      @Galicia322 Před 3 lety +2

      @@BYOTools The lights are not cheap at all. Its literally the lights people use for everything that is led pixel made, if you want more of an led strip look the sell ws2811 strips as well, or ws2815 if you want more controll of each strip simply costs a bit more, if you google ws2811permanent Christmas lights or ws2811 lights how you'll see that everyone that hangs their own lights uses those, professionals use those for light shows even for led screens. Simply, its not the branded name (generic) so it costs less. Lol. I'm not trying to be a dick, simply trying to save people money for people who can't afford those high prices for lights. If you check drzz's videos on CZcams he has a video over the different kind of led's and their generic name so you don't pay brand prices. Again, not hating simply trying to help people out and educating them rather than just giving them one brand, one thing I wish I knew 5 years ago!! (:

      Mike I've installed everlights on a ton of houses. If there isn't flashing you run the lights in the gutters and drill the hole up high on the gutter lip. It's actually a lot easier to install in the gutters. They also sell flashing that has the holes pre-drilled and i've only had to use this on homes with tile roofs but you can use them on any house.

    • @mikebarger138
      @mikebarger138 Před 3 lety +1

      @@JedAtkinson Yes, I am aware they sell flashing. I actually mentioned it in my initial comment. And there is zero chance I would ever install these into a gutter. If you ever had an ice dam or debris build up in your gutter - or if your home has settled and your gutters are no longer perfectly slanted, your lights could literally end up under water or even frozen in a block of ice.

      @BYOTools  Před 3 lety

      Good question Douglas and it all depends on how intense the heat is in the area you live, which means it could be drastically different from place to place. However, even if the heat is extreme and you have to change out the caps every few years it would be relatively easy to replace the cap itself. I live in the Seattle area so we don't have to worry about intense heat waves but I'm sure it would be a different story if I lived in Arizona. Where do you live? I would just pose that question to Everlights or other manufacturer and see what their warranty is for the caps themselves. Thanks for watching though and hope you enjoyed the video.
