There was no Big A or "true mastermind" or anything like that like some people are saying. Mona was intended to be the mastermind. It makes sense that it's her, especially when you go back and watch the Halloween episode. People just don't know what they're talking about. They didn't change anything. Mona WAS supposed to be A, not just a helper. No helper would do everything expect 2 things lol.
Mona was the Original A. She was the first A, the one who threated Ali in the Halloween episode, the one who tortured the girls for the first two seasons. She had help like Lucas, he gave Emily that massage, because Mona knew secrets about him too. When she went tô Radley, she used a lot of meds and was confused, so she thought Cece was Ali, because they look alike. Cece was impressed by Mona's stories about the girls, so Cece wanted to play the game too and made Mona think she was in control, but Cece stole the game from Mona.
hanna and mona only became friends after ali died, and when hanna came back she didnt start hanging out with the other girls until A began sending texts which is what brought the girls back together, so really its all monas fault that hanna stopped hanging out with her, she literally was the reason hanna started being close with the girls again.
