I have no idea what's in the water in the UK, but they produce some of the most iconic musicians in this God given planet.
I would consider the fact that most people somewhat understand English is a huge advantage in becoming known as an artist in the world if you are from a country that has English as its native language.
its like Cola but with a L :P
They studied early rock pioneers. The blues masters, especially, then also ppl like Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Muddy, Elvis, etc. They knew good music when they heard it. And were heavily inspired by all the good musicians who came before them. Just like Elvis when he was sneaking into old juke joints to hear black musicians in Mississippi. It all comes full circle. And imo, as much as I love the original stuff they emulated, the 60s & 70s British musicians and what they contributed to our ctry also, is amazing, and I love so many of those bands. Never get sick of them. Timeless!
I think you're nearly there, I'd go a bit further if you think of country and blues music in the US; in the UK we had narrative type music such and Gilbert and Sullivan, and a few other types of music in places such as Liverpool and London and they cross pollinated with jazz and rock and roll from the US - and from then on there have been US bands inspired by the British bands of the 60s, and British bands inspired by US bands etc, and then on around the world! @@redhats_exit1984
Vero! Ma solo questo. Per il resto fanno proprio schifo!
music growing up in the 70s, listening to the Kinks, and the whole culture back then, was legendary, truly amazing.
We’ve definitely gone backwards as a society! This song was released in 1970 and no one even batted an eye, we just loved it!
Sad but true, gays and transexuals have been around forever, the world (read: right wingers) only hates them now because they are trying to get equal rights.
@@krashdjeepers!
How old are you?
We've had equal rights for decades - until this ridiculous wave of unnecessary activism we were able to live the happy, quiet, peaceful and serene lives we deserve - now right fighters come along and scupper all the rights and respect we earned through sheer courage and perseverance - those people should be ashamed of themselves, coming in and causing problems where there weren't any.
Less crazy rightwingers.
yeah man, gays were way more accepted back then....
@@monotech20.14 in 1970? lmao
So happy to a baby boomer.
Greatest music of all time
good reminder that the Kinks were ahead of their time in so many ways
One of the best lyricists in the history of music
I hope all the Lola's are save and happy in 2023.
lola here.. happy in 2024

Makes one feel 17 again, pure joy
As a Catholic school kid, it was quite a shock when I figured out what this song was all about!!! I remember exactly where I was when the lightbulb went off! I think I was about 12. LOL
Shit I was about 25 when I really listened and figured it out. And I’m 64 now! I was very naive, good little catholic girl. I just thought it was a cool song!
This song was well ahead of it's time, one of my favorites. The Kinks are one of the greatest rock bands.
It was ok in it's time, now it should be censored
These days songs like this and others by the Velvet Underground couldn't happen, the politically correct woke crowd wouldn't stand for it (and we thought Anita Bryant was bad for artistic expression.)
@@m1k3again I disagree. The song never painted Lola in a bad light and Ray Davies even said he thought Lola was pretty, regardless of what biological sex she was. I genuinely struggle to imagine what lyrics in this song need to be censored. This song supports transgenders and if you refuse to see it that way then you're deliberately misinterpreting the lyrics :)
they werent ahead of it's time at all, it's just that this generation think they were the first to do everything. fucking morons.
@@winstondave What a joke you are I'm so woke and have always loved those songs, the only people that would ban them are on the right.
Criminally Underrated Band from the golden era !!!!
I paid a shilling to dance to this group in The Cavern one lunchtime in Liverpool. Sweat dripping from the walls and packed out. My favourite group at the time.
I saw the Kinks in 1978 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, there were 2 barely known bands backing them up. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, & Blondie. I’ll never forget it! ✨👏🏼😎✨
What a great experience! 😊
Good times!
Are you sure you got that right? that’s too good to be true. ! What a treat .
Lucky dude!
You're so lucky to have seen those great musicians all together ❤
Ray must have been looking into a crystal ball when he wrote this.
This is the type of band to play at the Super Bowl. Period!!
If they are not sticking their crotch into a camera, then the NFL does not want them as entertainment.
RIGHT
defo
Definitely a band to get the Super Bowl rocking! The Kinks can do that and get the fans involved. These brothers are incredible!
The Superbowl??
Eff the Superbowl.
Man this is a perfect song for 2024 😂
😂😂😂😂
"Lola" is one of aThe Kinks best songs!
Lot of people don't know just how ballsy the Kinks were to write & perform this iconic rocker, because when they wrote it, homosexuality was still illegal in the UK. They broke down a lot of barriers with this one, & they deserve everyone's respect. Thank you, guys!
So does Lola
@@jacobdylan7706 Hi! Indeed, friend! Props to Lola! Like the song says, "...I always want it to be that way for my Lola.". Thanks for your comment.
@@cdfdesantis699 They "deserve" respect as musicians irrespective of their intersectional pedigree.
@@stephenpayne9120 Hi! You'll get no argument from ME regarding The Kinks' musical prowess. Unfortunately, I've known some close-minded people who outright "diss'd" them, just because of this song. All I can say is they've deprived themselves of some great music! Thanks for your comment.
@@cdfdesantis699 good point. I did not know this. Thanks for the polite discussion!
Always loved the kinks 👍
It's was a predictive song and has now become so factual it's scary!
I'm not the world's most musical man, but I know I love this tune, and I'm glad that I found this masterpiece, and so is Lola
Great tune
I see what you did in that sentence!🤣I don't think anyone else did.
I get it
That's great
L O L A
I also see your play on words,,well done I saw them 3 times each better than the show before. Lola was so far ahead of its times when I think of the struggles of today released in June of 1970 / 40 + years later here we are "still" fighting for equality.
Rhyming with cola is the best start and the beet is the best. For years I have got crap for liking this and albums Kinks has put out. I am 55 and still appreciate the tunes, beet and all of the Kinks.
It’s rocks man they don’t know music. I’m 2
20 lol
I’m 55 too. Good age for kinks fans. They made their revival when we were teenagers. They got popular with the rockers, new wavers, and punks alike.
@@louishennick9846 1982, Sydney, Horden Pavillion. I was 18, Ray and Dave just a few feet away. Seems like a dream.

Those were the days of music ❤
The Kinks is an irreplaceable piece of the great Rock history puzzle 🧩🎸👏🏻👏🏻
Yes they are
Epic live performance, the crowd truly loves this one !! 🎶🎶🎶
In my opinion, "one of the road" is one of the greatest live albums of all time. Finding this on video is a treasure!
Jody Giles listen to Tesla’s “five men acoustical jam”
I totally agree, I haven’t looked yet, hoping it’s all here somewhere,
So is Skynyrd s One more From the Road
Lola ist und bleibt ein Mann
It’s 2023 & I agree!!!
"Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man but I know what I am and I'm glad a man..." Those lyrics would get them in a lot of trouble today :)
I was at this concert and what an awesome concert it was.I was excited when I found out Lola and a few other songs they played that night were on ONE FOR THE ROAD ALBUM -- It's a great honor to be recorded at a concert you attended.
I can hear me screaming with 50,000 other KINKS fans.
It was taped in Providence RI at the civic center and it only held 12 thousand people
@@mikeiyc dude got calles out haha. But let a man dream lol
I remember how incredibly popular this album was. When they toured for the next studio album they released (Give The People What They Want) I saw them at Madison Square Garden and it seemed like half the kids in my school were on the train ride back to the suburbs that night (our entire student body was about 3000 kids).
you lucky bastard
Saw them on the same tour in the Boston Garden. Great show and at the time, Great drugs....
I am Lola.. always loved this song of course. never paid attention to what the song was about. all i know is it had my name in it...🙃
One of the best bands I’ve ever seen live. Grew up listening to their music. Beautifully British. Ray Davis is a legend.
It’s Ray Davies !!
Yes they are!!
Listen to “Killers Eyes”
That’s always been a sad one
Have a good night everyone
The harmony between the brothers are so satisfying to hear.
are you sure ?
Haha the irony
Eat your heart out Beatles the kings are back in town John vanharen 🎉🦘🇦🇺
Love you Ray xxx Also Dave xxx also those in the community xx
Recorded live at the Providence Civic Center in Rhode Island on 9/23/79. I was there that night. Quite a show.
Providence Civic is a little on the small side that was passed up sometimes. It's a stop up I-95 past MSG, what used to be New Haven Coliseum, Hartford Civic, and before bands get to Boston Garden. Great period. The shit's all gone now.
What is RI short for? Riverdale?

This is a Masterpiece!!! 11/10
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
kirsten jakobsen It's a good one, it came out when I was a teenager(in my 60's now), & it's still being listened to. Ray Davies must be in his mid-70's by now.

Best rock anthem ever.
How memorable and cool is that.,goosebumps.

I wish that I could give more than just one like 😂
I got this album back 1980. 13yrs old. Wore it OUT
My favourite version of Lola. They really get the crowd to sing. Awesome energy!
One of the most under rated bands that came out of the UK. Great song. I can play this like a dozen times before I move on to the next YT video.
Who underrated the Kinks? They were superstars then and are still revered now.
Not “underrated!!” By any means!
@@johntechwriter probably well rated in the UK but not really as big as other bands in the western world, speaking from France...
@@vinobody Most of the biggest bands from UK.
Underrated? Do you HEAR that crowd? My uncle listened to the song quite a bit in the early 70s and I remember him telling me what it was about. I was just a little kid then about 7. My parents were very open minded people and nothing that I could learn about was ever restricted from me. The only time they kept me from anywhere or anything was if It was dangerous and I could be hurt. To this day I’m grateful for the way they chose to raise me.
lol. Like you all want to know that.
My favorite band
Kinks live kick so much ass
Always makes me smile this song, thank you The Kinks brilliant performance 😊
The Kinks one of the best British bands ever,Ray has written and performed some classic songs,Lolas lyrics say all about the genius of Ray and Dave Davies
I think recorded in my home state of Rhode Island ,The Kinks were huge ..!!!!!!!
I don't know...maybe one of the greatest rock tunes ever???
That’s it.
Personally, one of the best rock bands ever. There's Zeppelin, the Stones, The Who, The Allman Brothers and The Kinks for me. Different bands with different sensibilities and moods but all amazing. That's my take though haha
1 more, the doors...., and R.I.P ian gibbons, great musician and soul of the kinks
Yes
Definitely
Everybody loves this song xx
One of the greatest live albums ever. I was fortunate to have seen them live countless times. Never a let down except for one time in Conn. where the sounds system kept breaking down and they cut it short. God save the Kinks!!
I saw them twice. In '82 and again in '89. About the 5th song in during the '82 show they started Destroyer:
"Met a girl called Lola and I took her back to my place
Feeling guilty, feeling scared, hidden cameras everywhere
Stop!......"
then the song stopped and the stage went completely dark for what felt like 30 seconds. The lights came back on and the band WAS GONE!!!!!!!!
The lights went out again and then went back on for a final time as the band were all back in their places and without missing a beat - they resumed the song right where it left off.
One of the coolest moments of any show I've ever seen.
❤ MY PERSONAL ICON FOREVER ♾️💋🫀🌍🕊️
Absolutely prolific and way ahead of its time
Something very similar happened to me when I was 17 years old. It's a long story but it's funny as hell
Such an underrated group. Genious!!!
Das war ein tolles Lied. Einzigartig. Die kinks waren ganz groß nach den Hollies , Sweet 🎤🎶🎵💖🌠Guten Abend
Back in the day this was the unspoken, I listened to the song a few times before I got it.
I never tire of listening to this and the legendary kinks
Met up with my high school buddies as a kind of reunion each year as the Kinks made their annual rounds. A real working mans band. We made twelve concerts through the years and they never disappointed.
A classic & lovely still in 2023; )
Saw them on my 23rd bday Madison Square Garden Still remember that concert I'm 64yo!
This is the type of band to play at the Super Bowl. Period!!
This song was so popular in the early 70s, summertime...
And definitely ahead of its time.
One dude with car salesmen hair and a suit, a dude with a mullet and sleeveless vest singing falsetto, a guy with suspenders and the drummer of course. I'm not sure what I expected 70s Kinks to look like.

My favourite band of all time... I have so many bands I love but these guys top them all for me. I named my daughter Lola because I couldn’t call her Kink or Ray 😆🤷🏻♀️
Jojo.... very good! how old is your daughter now..?
Peter Giebfried she’s now 7, I adore her. In a few years I’ll explain how she was named after a transvestite 😆🤷🏻♀️.
Jojo....now your daughter estudiar con 7 años....but Lola climbed the charts in the 60th...when you had the first contacts to the Kinks and the other important groups from the 60th... ? You're 30 more? Write to: pgiebfried390@gmail.com -ok?
@@jojo1234a Let her figure it out on her own when she's older, we named our daughter after a character in the TV comedy series "Soap" Her name was 'Corin' When we told her how she got her name she was not happy. Now she's in her 40's and doesn't care.
I met Ray in the lobby of a holiday inn in Mansfield mass prior to a show in 96. I didn’t know what a fist bump was, so simply shook his fist.
Great story line, goes over most peoples heads 😍🤣😂
Saw the kinks years and years ago they were so good
Love this group and this song!!! Music back then was the best ever 👍
Thanks for your love and support 👋
So far ahead of the times showed no fear with song great respect !
One of them yes!!…
You have that right. Thank God we have it for prosperity
This song reminds me of a magical holiday at Black rock sands in Portmadoc, Wales in 1969. There was a cafe at the end of a path to the beach with a juke box in it. I remember Lola being on it and Free All right now was no 2 in the charts and also on the juke box. There was beach buggies on the beach and bikers going past the cafe, it was a wonderful day out and great memories.😁🎼🎸🏴👍🎧🌟🏴
I think the Free singer became lead in Bad Company. I'm 68 and just realized that about a week ago. Lol Love Kinks, check a B side called King Kong... ❤️🔥

Puts a smile on my face every single time
I just learned that the words were initially “Coca cola” instead of “cherry cola”. but Coca Cola made them change it!!

@@cinnamongirl7877 That makes sense
@@cinnamongirl7877 No, the BBC did. In America they kept it Coca Cola. Changed it for UK only. A similar thing happened to Paul Simon, whose song "Kodachrome" was a hit in America but not in England because the BBC banned songs with trademarked names.
