Today we are going further back in time to take a look at the life of an Anglo Saxon king, one who’s reign is epitomised by his leadership of a nation in its year’s of immense struggles against viking marauder’s - his name - King Æthelred II, history however, know’s him now though as simply Æthelred the Unready.
After ascending to the throne he inherited a peaceful England, prosperous and content, sadly though, this was not to last. A prosperous nation meant a target for others, namely the Danes.

Cheers Andy, I too enjoy reading about pre-Norman England, and I will indeed do some more videos around this period, maybe even going back to the demise of the Roman’s in England - food for thought 🙏👍

I’m not sure why there was the extended look at the “new” St Pauls. They even said in the video that this isn’t the cathedral that existed at the time. I’m fine showing things at the cathedral that reference things that happened here in the past, but the long shots with choir music was a bit much. Other than that, I really liked this. Will definitely look into others from this channel.
Hi Amexgirl, thanks for your comment. I have taken on board what you have said, I guess it’s all a bit of a balancing act, what to put in and how much etc. hopefully future videos will have the right mix 🙏👍
He just wasn’t ready. 😮
😀
Aethelred II was not called "Unready" but m"Unraed" meaning "Poorly Advised". Aethelred was actually a well educated King. He is one of my Ancestors, descended from my 34x Great Grandfather Aelfred The Great.
The narrator pointed this out.
Just awesome 👍⛪️🕍🏰
Many thanks SkyHigh, much appreciated 👍🙏
Ethelred is my 31st Great Grandfather.
You and I are related
Excellent work tracing that lineage back, inspires me to have a look at mine - well done 👍
@@theblackpearl1742 Hello cousin! Watching these videos and then commenting, I have found a lot of relatives.
You're my 69th cousin wow such a small world lol.
I'm sorry
I can honestly say my family killed my family… I am dna related to some in the saint Bryce day massacre, but also related by dna and genealogy to king aethelred 😂🤣😂 among other British Scottish, Irish and Scandinavian royalty.
Why couldn’t he get ready?
