The double edge is meant to be a dagger and pierce. It's not as slicy as something meant specifically to cut. Thanks for the video.

  • @justamotorcycleenthusiast9800

Thanks for explaining the sharpness on a double edge! I was about to get the hones out!

You might want to strop that blade, it will bring the razor edge back. I have the same knife in OD green with a DLC black double edge. When mine gets a little sticky through paper or cardboard I just strop it on a leather strop and the edge comes right back. That is the beauty of M390 steel.

The price comes from: American made, in house construction, tight tolerances, strict quality control. If you're gonna edc one, a single edge is good for slicing, a double edge with half serrations is versitile.

3:22 tbh I think that's actually good, better for safety when in the pocket. I might get one of these but I'm split between blue, black or green.

Other than MT being the benchmark of OTF quality,
(I don’t even own one YET)
What I’ve discovered that IMO, the D/A OTF design is in many ways the most “handy” pocket knife out there.
    Here’s the main reason why.
The ability to get the knife out of your pocket, opened, used, closed and back in your pocket SAFELY one handed.
(Picture being on a ladder installing a new ceiling fan, stripping a wire and then wrapping the wires together with electrical tape, as an example)👍🏻

@louisianasamuel and as far as people saying they're really weak, I'd say anyone who is using any pocket knife as a prybar or hatchet wouldn't using one for its intended purpose anyway!

it is not bad EDC knife, it's very small, light, reliable, BUT it is dull, especially in dagger version, tip is very vulnerable, it is expensive, release mechanism takes a lot of strenght to open and even more to close...
You can get e.g Boker Lhotak Eagle for 1/6 of Microtech price, it is the same weight and size, and release mechanism is much better

  • @andrashavas

All that has been said is true for other OTF-s of the middle range also. The message for the main difference of Microtech vs the competition has not come across...

To each their own. Those who feel you can't EDC a double edge, MT makes many variations of each one of their knives. They even have different sizes like the UTX-85...my personal favorite. I will say though, that the one thing I have noticed and don't like about the MT OTF's, is the lack of ability to close them when holding them upside down. I would have to guess that this is due to the spring strength vs. blade weight.

    • @louisianasamuel
      @louisianasamuel  Před 2 lety

The upside down closing is an issue I didn’t mention, other than that I completely agree!

I have occasionally, there are some awkward positions and movements that can fail to close the knife

@@louisianasamuel So, to answer the question you pose in your video..."Worth It". The materials are obviously premium, and MT has sent the benchmark to what all OTF's should aspire to be, but for $250+, this thing should open in space if that's where I want to open it, and they GOT to do something about that narley aggressive jimping on the deploy button. Thing has ate my thumb up already lol

My complaint with my Ultratech Sith Lord edition is i have a very hard time closing it. I have to use my pointer finger to close it. Honestly ridiculous how difficult it is to open and close for close to $400. Makes me not want another Microtech.
