- Today I’ll be showing you how I brush painted this U.S. M4A3 Sherman in 1/48 Scale by Hobby Boss. If your curious about the price it was only $30 U.S. Dollars bought from my local hobby shop. Thank you for watching and please subscribe so that I may show you more future content👍 :D (Paints): Vallejo- Olive Drab, Neutral grey, Iraqui Sand, Khaki, U.S. field drab, Green grey, Green Brown . I like the comment you made - "Of course, it is your model and it is up to you whether or not you want it realistic or more colour vibrant." I personally like this statement as it applies to me - I prefer to keep my models unweathered and clean like they have just come off the factory floor, it's like you say - much brighter. I feel too many modelling channels on youtube are narrow minded and look at it as every model has to be as historically accurate as possible.
Thank you so much for uploading this video! As a beginner that plans on using acrylic paint and hand brushing (almost) exclusively, it's really nice to see someone who can fill that niche. I heard that oil paints are much more effective for washes, so seeing your handsoap technique was really creative and much more convinent for me personally. Definitely checking out more of your content!
Definitely man. I am also a beginner and that handsoap technique is great for beginner with not a lot of tools for weathering. Amazing indeed.
I wish modeling paint wasn’t so expensive
Yup me too. :(
Yes, indeed :)
@@nofwild6325yup , really theres no reason modelling paint should be so expensive, they do use more pigment than say poster paints or artists paints but really , its not that much more.
You can save yourself "some" cost by buying a can of car spray in the colour you want to have as the main colour of most of your tanks , i.e. an olive drab for american vehicles and a dark sand or greyish yellow for the german dunkllegelb. Remember once you add some weathering or if you start to do things like modulating colours (adding very small dabs of oil colours and blending over the surfaces to achieve a more realistic blend of tones over your surfaces) your base colour will be changed a great deal anyway.
So start by covering the model with a good spray from a can, you should get multiple models from a single can and this will save you from having to use your precious modelling paints of 25ml.
This way you will save quite a bit of paint and as long as you dont go overboard with a spray can (do fine layers ,dont try to fully coat it in one spray!) You can achieve good results for a lot less.
(Another tip if you use enamel paints from a bottle like ammo paints or mig paints DONT use the pot as your dipping pot, i garentee youll knock one over one day and lose all of the paint over your table!! 😂 use a pipet or old syringe and pour a little onto a palette or i use old milk bottle caps and that way you wont risk spillages and loss of valuable paint!) Same if you start to use wearhering powders, take smal amounts out of the pot onto a milk bottle cap and close the pot for safety. Knocking over pigments is a nightmare worth avoiding.
I cannot thank you enough for this. My painting was really letting me down, but now I can paint competently. 👌🏻
Absolutely stunning job again. I like your weathering techniques. I have a 1/35 Sherman in my stash I shall be trying these techniques on a larger scale. Keep up the great work.
Just finished watching this vlog. It's extremely useful to learn your ideas of washing the model. Thanks a lot.
Damn man, this was the only video on the whole internet that ive found helpful, thank you so much you earned a sub!!!
Thank you for your tips ,never new about adding soap so well pleased with that tip, and looking forwards to seeing more off your work. Thanks again 👍👍
Very helpful video (as I don’t have an airbrush) and have just started tank modelling. Thank you for creating and sharing
Thank you!! Great simple explanation, without having to use 'expensive tools'!
Thank you! I loved every second of this video. Your advice to paint what I like first helped me make up my mind in a B-25 build I'm doing now. Thanks again!
Great tutorial. I've been painting my polymer clay sculptures for a while and I always had issues with bright colors like yellow, so I'm glad I found something similar-ish to see how to properly apply layers for the color.
Well I’m glad you found the video somewhat helpful. :-)
You did an excellent job on this video. After 30 years, I’m getting back into scale model building. And I watched a few videos on the same subject, but your video truly is detailed, explained clearly and understandably. And it’s not rushed. Thank you so much for putting this out there. I definitely am going to look for more videos from you, I subscribed and “liked”.
Thank you, I’m happy you liked it. I’m a bit baffled by all the kind words but it’s much appreciated. Great to hear your getting back into such an amazing hobby. Take care and best of luck. :-)
great to have brush painting videos. many people just do this and the result you get are great!
Clearest painting guide on CZcams, you have my thanks
Great work! I absolutely love the weathering!!! 👍✌
Great techniques. I have recently gotten back into military modeling and have been watching videos on how to paint and weather vehicles
I want to thank you for this video. I have used your technics and low and behold my tanks are starting to look like tanks. Good job.
I’m happy for you, that I have somehow helped you in building and painting your models. Thank you. :D
Perfection! Amazing skilled painting techniques 🙌🏻
One of the best tutorials i saw, very clear and great techniques. Also i really like that you use simple things (no airbrush, etc) and it looks that great
that acrylic wash idea is genius. it will also make the model smell nice hehehe! Subbed!
😂 Your right it will make the model smell very clean. Thanks man👍
Thank you for sharing brush painting skills, very useful
Kudos on a great presentation. Thanks for the process and the listing of the paints. I appreciate the organization, information and enjoyability of the video. Have subscribed and can’t wait to view your other presentations.
I’m happy to hear that you’ve enjoyed my video. Hearing that from you really helps with the feedback. Thank you.
I think this is great work with just brushes. Thanks for the techniques.
Beautifully done, I'm going to give it a go on my first build a Matilda, thank you.
This looks great. Really happy to find tutorials on brush painting. Can you give some info on how you did the rust patch on the top section behind the turret. Thanks.
This was great! Thanks for sharing this tutorial as I learned a lot from it.
Thank you very much for very informative video! It helped me to get back into scale model brush painting after 30 years 😀.
First of all, I really need to thank you for this tutorial, it led to my best model. Also, you told us to use hand soap and buff and water to make dust, i found out if you leave it overnight, you will get a solidified yet brushable mud, and it works really well, even better than the dry steppe i have from ammo. Thank you very much and now i can competently make my models without the fear of ruining it with bad weathering and painting!!!
Thanks so much for such an excellent tutorial presentation.
Amazing weathering. Great video. Super helpful for me. I am doing my first ever paint+weathering with a scale model on my P-40 Tomahawk African theatre from Academy. Have been thinking of putting baby powder on it for sandy detail! but now I find your vid with acrylics + soap, I will try it out ;)
Thank you. I’m flattered that my tank video will help you in weathering+painting your P-40 aircraft model, of course having great fun in brush painting it. Best of luck :D
Beautiful. Leurend a lot which I can apply on this wet Sunday.
That was amazing I'm going to do that on my next build
Thank you for the video - interesting and informative !!!!
Great demo! Thank you.
This is a awesome guide for brush painting models! Thank you so much!
No thank you for watching I appreciate it. :)
@@Modkits131 wow you resopnded so fast! I subbed and put notifications on! You are so underrated!
Thanks, I get that a lot from people and I’m humbled to be called underrated. 😅
Thank you! Thank you so much! I was looking into getting vallejo paints for brush painting and couldnt find any real evidence that they did any good for non air brushes. My man you're a beast, new devoted subscriber o7
Thanks man, I appreciate it. Glad you found the video helpful. :-)
Excellent work
what an awesome video! what a great way of painting and weathering all with brush and acrylic paints! all the other model channels are all about 'hairspray chipping' and airbrush everything! although i do have an airbrush, I'm not very good with it and it's not a very airbrush lol. so I'm looking at doing more brush on effects then anything! thanks for the video!
Thank you, no problem. I’m happy I could help you with brush painting your models. :-)
Great video thanks and good job. Got some very good ideas for a dusty finish and weathering to a BTR-80 I will soon start. I'm not a huge fan of spray paint and as you and several other modelers have shown, brush painting can be just as effective.
Thank you it’s great to hear that my video helped. Good luck and have fun making that BTR-80 dusty. :-)
Absolutely amazing, first video I found that has a technique for weathering with acrylic!
Thank you very much, I’m happy you enjoyed it.😁👍
@@Modkits131 Do you have any techniques for mud etc with similar tools? Eg. the powder etc
Yes I do, mixing Tamiya acrylic paints with hard pastels or mixing real earth+model scenery glue.
@@Modkits131 Hey just to tell you, ive been doing a bit of it myself, and I reckon you can get a better result with Tamiya Paint Retarder instead of soap. Just water, tamiya paint and retarder and you shouldn't have any problems at all. If you wanted to use that technique for a video, go ahead, you have my permission.
I would agree as well with the paint retarder. But the point of using soap is for a cheaper alternative to some modelers who don’t own retardant or can’t purchase it, whatever the circumstances may be. Thank you though, I appreciate it. :)
Thank you! This video is very good for beginners AND for bit anvanced builders
A good video about your art of brush painting this Sherman and in the end it achieved in a great result.
Wish you a nice weekend. Greetings, Joachim
Thank you very much I put a lot of time and effort into this model👍
The time and effort were well spent. 👍
Brilliant! The chipping on the model gives a realistic visual. Appreciate your in-depth, detailed narrating. Turned out really amazing.
That's a really nice work there. The effect is amazing
Thank you for the kind comment👍
@@Modkits131 I like the weathering effect on tank ,but spray can is faster and better paint surface then hand brushing.
@@amuxpatch2798 Your right on what I think you meant was air brushing being faster than brush painting. But of course beginners aren’t always going to buy an airbrush or spray can when painting their first model. I hope this answers your question.👍
Great tips, I like to build gundams but haven’t painted any of em before, now I’m kinda interested in painting minis for war games. So this vid really came in handy.
It’s great to know the video helped you in someway. Best of luck on painting those war games minis. I personally haven’t dabbled in Gundam models yet, but definitely plan on getting some in the future.
Jan 7th 2021... first time seeing this...
I like doing 1/72 / 1/76 kits. And making small dioramas... I still use TESTORS ENAMELS... but I’m learning new techniques , you taught me something new
NICE JOB... Chris from Ohio
Thank you, that’s awesome your enjoying this hobby and that I somehow managed to teach you something new. I’m flattered man😁👍
Nice painting and modeling
Excellent lesson. Thank you.
Awesome finishes👍
Great job …Thanks for the info.
Wow a lot of work but that’s why it’s a hobby not a toy .
Absolutely informative and inspiring as I see these results and marvel on how they are produced.
Off to the model shop for something simple first .
Be back referring to your video. 👍
Thank you. I’m humbled to hear that I was helpful to you in some way. I hope you have fun painting your model then. Either tank, plane or ship. Etc. :-)
Thanks for the tutorial also warthunders sound track is amazing
Thank you. Great to hear it helped you. :-)
I will never brushpaint a model again after getting an airbrush. But your results are REALLY great.
thank you for this. There is lots of good advice for airbrushing on the net, but relatively little about hand brushing.
Thank you. I’m glad you found it helpful. :)
Excellent video for tips and practical demonstration. Had some difficulty hearing a few of your comments because of the music. You don't need it because your great work speaks for itself. Thanks a lot.
Wow this is amazing! I didn't know you could make things look this good with just brushes. It looks great. Only things I would add would be a bit more dark/black wash on some of the small indents and a little detail on the tools and extra stuff.
Thank you for the tutorial. Saving this for future reference. Really useful since I don't wanna invest in an airbrush just yet.
So awesome to hear that this was helpful to you. I personally wasn’t too satisfied with the end results and how over weathered the model looked. But in the end, mistakes were made and I learned from it.
Thank you. :-)
@@Modkits131 We live and we learn indeed. Glad I could make your day a little better.
I also listed you/your channel as someone/thing I'm grateful for in my gratitude journal entry today.
Greetings from South Africa. Great Channel. I subscribed after 2 videos. I don't know about the Scooby-Doo part. You sound pretty cool to me and you seem to know what you are talking about.
Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate them very much.👍:D
Excellent model.👍
Thank you so so much!!! I don't have many budget on my hobbys so this video really help me!!
Excelent video, with good tecnics. I´m a hand painted modeler too and enjoy very much your work. Keep going the good work. Greetings from Portugal. 😉👍
Beautiful Job Wow 👍
Very helpful. Many thanks!
Really thanks, it help me with brush painting models. Every one always tolding me buy aero, with out aero y can't painting models
nicely done
Great tutorial!
Nothing like a good Sherman.
Good tip, first please yourself before pleasing others. It's currently the other way around for me. Good tips and instructions and showing really good and giving clear instructions.
Fantastic video!
Hello, thank you for your step by step quide tutorial, I have completed all the steps of the tutorial and I am proud of the result, of course, it's still far from your proficiency, but I really like the manual painting technique that you use, if possible, I would send you a few photos. Best regards AW
Thank you for the lovely comment, I’m happy that you enjoyed the video and that you liked the result of your model by watching me paint mine. If you want to send me a picture of your model. I’m on Instagram and Patreon. Under the same name of course. :D
Great video very inspiring
i love the warthunder music in the background it reminds me after i get shot by a tiger in a sherman jumbo and just think why i play warthunder and thank you for the help on models
I’m happy I could help you with your models. :-) Also sorry for reminding you of bad memories from that game…
Never even heard of soap and water plus paint. Thanx.
Yeah no problem, let me know if you have any questions and see my newer videos for the soap wash done more refined.
Incredible work😎😎
I appreciate the criticism man, thanks👍😁
Great video, thank you
You put the Warthunder hangar music in the back ground haha. Nice paint job i will use this video as help for my 1/35 Sherman 🌚
Nooooo. Ok you got me. But thank you man I appreciate it.
Going to build my first model tank soon. I hope it goes well
I wish you the best of luck. :)
Points for Advance Australia in the background.
Good video very helpful.
I love this video and can envision Brad Pitt sitting in the tank commander hatch. Stills from this movie are a great source of images for weathered tanks in the European threaten of WWII. THANKS and KUDOS.
Outstanding
Thanks man, I always love the feedback😁👍
awesome video, i'm making a scratch build speeder, and at this point i'm braking my head on how to paint it, i only have acrylics, this video will help a lot, thx
No problem, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Hope it helps you on your build. :D
Fantastic !
Excellent guide. I've always loved model kits but I rarely build them because I always managed to mess up painting them and just get extremely discouraged.
What is the little stick you're painting the pieces on towards the end? Almost looks like a dowel with putty of some sort?
It’s understandable why it can be discouraging. I’ve managed to ruin the paint on some of my first models and they look absolutely terrible lol.
I’d encourage you to give it another go, even if the results end badly. There are far better tutorial videos that can help you with brush painting and learning useful modeling tips. It’s important to have fun within this hobby and not worry about screwing up the process. Best of luck to you and happy Thanksgiving, if you don’t celebrate it then I hope have a good rest of your week. Thank you.
The little stick at the end is an entrenching tool or spade/shovel. You’ll find the exact same thing from looking up images of the tool.
amazing
Oh my god this is so useful
Guy is a wizard!
Great video keep up the good work. Can we use any water to thin the paint, because I was thinking on using still water but some people say it has to be distilled
I believe any water should work fine from my experience.
Love the paint tutorial, also the war thunder music is cool lol
Thank you , I’m happy you enjoyed it. :-)
Thank you so much! This is helped allor
Wow ! Excellent content. Finding "brush painting techniques" on CZcams is difficult because everyone seems to airbrush exclusively & only pull out brushes for weathering / tiny details. Brush stokes are SO annoying. This is very helpful. Can you cut the acrylics with lacquer thinner ? Would love if you did a "brush paintings with enamels ( Testors specifically) ! Subscribed ! Will check out more videos. Thanks for the information!
I have tested with Vallejo paints that you can mix a small amount of lacquer thinner with the acrylic paint. Yes I will eventually try out enamels/ oil paints in the future for sure. Also I recommend “Quick Kits” he shows himself in his videos brush painting with enamel paints. Thank you :)
@@Modkits131 I'll check it out for sure! I like the technique of not spraying a clear coat on after each step which is very time consuming. I have a few vallejo & "the army painter" paints on the way so hopefully the lacquer thinner works. All I know is it works well the tamiya acrylics but those colors can be limited. Testors enamels definitely need to be cut with thinner. Half enamel / half thinner (for best even flow / no brush strokes). Unfortunately most my paints are enamel but I'm looking to expand to the acrylics side because they seem great, just intimidating to use.
With time and practice acrylic paints will be no problem for you to use. I’m sure of it. :)
Thanks man, easy way to buy some cheap stuff
I wanna go paint my model...but you background music also has me wanting to go fly a couple of matches in War Thunder
Aaayy. Exactly what I’m doing right now lol.
Thank you very much!
I recognized that war thunder theme song! o7 to the good old days!
Lol the good ol days.
Thanks 👍
Nice 👍
Bruh you sounded like Scooby Doo. Nevertheless awesome build!
Haha your absolutely right😂
More like a muppet😅
And you can't build a model. U rude little siht
😂😂😂
And the war thunder ahh music
Love the war thunder soundtrack
Just a small tip for anyone out there whos new to painting any resin vehicles (plastic too, works well too), as there are so many more 3d printed models available ,
The recommended steps are to wash with soapy water before applying paint but ive been painting resin and plastic models for years now and if you want to save yourself quite a bit of work just use an enamel base paint as your primer. Enamel bonds much better than any acrylic based paint amd you can paint acrylic on top with no problem.
I have found enamel paint to be a much tougher , more resistant to scratches base than my best washed and scrubbed with soap attempts with acrylic primer. I put it down to the unique way enamels bond to the models. Its even great for painting metal parts such as white metal figures etc
Just thought id pass on the tip.
(I use the humbrol pots and i even thin them down a little for easier and greater coverage. Even a very thin enamel coating gives you a solid base to work on top of. Ill leave it to you to work out how far you can thin it but honestly youll be suprised how good it is and its a super fast way to prime your model. I literally slap on the thinned coating and let it dry thoroughly and its done, ready for paint, no fiddly washing and worrying your paint might not bond)
Astounding
Im doing my first ever paint and glue type kit after previously doing only snap together gundams. Do u have any videos where youre making any mobius horror kits or somehing along those lines? i got the michael myers mobius and i dont want to mess it up. I already did some test painting on the floorboards with a spray on primer and then acrylic, but like you said you can see the brush strokes
Unfortunately I don’t have any videos like you mentioned, but a Gundam kit is something I’ll do in the future. :)
