I'm an Old Guy who has been working with lots of technologies for lots of decades. I've used Cakewalk from the Olden Days when it was Sonar, but I recently bought a Novation Launchkey 61 when my beloved old Roland D60 gave out... Launchkey says it integrates with Ableton out of the box, so I decided to give Ableton a try. I'm liking it a lot. Your videos are making the "transition" as almost-easy as it can be.

My Ableton Live is different than yours in that it does not contain the same sounds and instruments as you do. So as I'm following the lessons, I dragged other instruments from my Ableton onto the midi tracks. But I'm finding that some of these do not have record buttons, I can play them using the keyboard, but when I click record, no sound or recording happens. Are there different types of instruments, sounds and such categories that behave differently? Thank you again.

    • @Taetro

      hey etienne:
I just tested in Live 12 and the same small icons are present. It could be that you have not loaded an instrument rack / preset. You may have just loaded a stock synth.
In the browser with the list of instruments and presets, try finding Drift and opening that folder to reveal all the Drift presets. Next to each preset name you will see a small rectangular icon. Some of these icons are a rectangle with a line down the middle. These are instrument racks meaning they are a synth + other effects contained in a single container (known as an instrument rack).
If you load up one of these presets specifically, you'll now see the icons. The icons are only present for instrument racks.
      I hope that is helpful!
