West Virginia head coach Neal Brown noted that his team won the 2023 Duke's Mayo Bowl in a different manner than it recorded many of its wins in the regular season.
You know, this team really was the embodiment of the our great state, West Virginia. They were underestimated, forgotten, disrespected and given no chance. But they were PROUD! Like the people of West Virginia, this year's squad was scrappy, hard working, blue collar and they didn't need a bunch of hype to believe themselves to be worthy. For me, I'm as proud of this team and these coaches as I was the Sugar and Orange Bowl squads. It takes a special breed of people to know that their backs are against the wall and still have the guts and will to come out fighting and ultimately, winning. Congrats to those student athletes, to those coaches and assistants and to all of my fellow fans that had no real reason to believe...yet somehow, still did. #HailWV!
We have such fickle uninformed football commentators on Coach Brown. He is elite level Coach that is in a location and program that could never recruit 5 stars which confirms he gets the very most out of his players ……. THAT IS THE DEFINITION OF A GREAT COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACH
Congratulations to Coach Brown and the entire WVU Team and Family. Morgantown is celebrating tonight! Thanks, team for an exciting season! Next year looks bright for WVU!
I just graduated in May and I used to want Neal gone. I was wrong. Seeing what he’s done in recruiting this year ( we will have one of the top draft classes in the NCAA) I’m very happy to have Neal in Morgantown. It’s crazy now to think back and think about the headset breaking fiery coach we had before Neal and then realize how much more in sync Neal is with the team, the media, and building a winning team/organization
Good season but recruiting is bad ranked 50 is sad. He don't have a top draft class. What players are you talking about? Brown has a lot still to approve.
Recruiting rankings, past the top 100 or so players and the top few teams, are total guesswork and should not be used to evaluate until you see how those players perform on the field
Mike Gundy was named Big XII 2023 Coach of the Year. I think Neil Brown deserves Big XII 2023 Co-Coach of the Year. WVU fans are proud of your team's dominating performance on the gridiron and our fans' dominating support in Charlotte, right in UNC's backyard.
If someone in California tuned into the game, they would have asked, " Where is Charlotte West Virginia?" Playing NC in their own State and outmanned in the stands!
@alexevans5043 and you keep running your mouth about a program that just won 9 games. You haters are all the same. He could win a Big 12 Championship and u would find an excuse. Programs take time to rebuild. They usually give coaches 4 years. So him taking 5 years during a time when coaches have to adjust to the transfer portal plus dealing with Covid. My lord..give it a rest.
Program really seems to have turned the corner. Got some hardware and a LOT of young talent coming back. An absolutely electric qb, young talented receiving core that’s only gonna get better with the new class including a 4 star kid in day day farmer, a p5 transfer in jaden Bray, and a sub 4.3 3 star in state recruit in Dominick Collins. Also two dynamic running backs returning in Cj Donaldson and Jaheim (him) White, with 3 out of 5 returning offensive lineman on a team with the most rushing yards in the entire power 5. Gonna be a fun fun team to watch next year no doubt. Can’t wait for September 2024
After 4 years he finally got something done, I’ve said give him time he needs to get things right and he did everyone doubted me on saying this but he brought home a bowl win
All in all it was a good season. Nine and four is not too shabby. The loss to Houston really sucked and if we played them again the outcome would be different.
This is the result of not bailing on a young coach early in his tenure during the building phase of the program. He does things the right way, even if it's the hard way and kids need that influence around them more than ever in todays world. Our guys love each other and I think that's the answer to all the NIL/Portal issues. If the kids love each other and play for each other, they'll be less likely to leave for external reasons. Neal had the foresight to build off fit and character rather than chasing the highest star count he could find. We're gonna be in good shape for the next several years. Garrett deserves more credit than just what he's done on the field. I remember when he committed how much recruiting he did for us. If a team takes the personality of their coach and quarterback; I couldn't be happier with the personalities we're personifying.
@@alexevans5043 coming from a guy that his family tree looks like a fence post! Shut up and sit down son and raise your hand when u speak to grown ups.
@alexevans5043 no...A 9-4 season WITH a bowl win. Mediocre, to me, is 6-6 or maybe 7-5. This team made great strides this year whether u can see it or not. And I know your gonna cry that they only beat weaker teams. What you're not seeing, is the last few years we WERE the weaker team. My lord give the Coach a little credit. They usually give coaches 4 years to turn a program around. So u gonna bitch about 1 extra year when he had to deal with an abnormal Covid year as well as learn how to Coach in the transfer portal era?? And I guess he's supposed to out recruit the Texas Tech's, Baylors, Houston, and UCFs of the world who reside in Texas and Florida where all the 4 and 5 star players are . This fan base has a group of so called "fans" who run their mouths before they think things through.

@@jjjb4501he’s had one above average year….
@@corradomascitti88well we can’t lose them all. Keep yer chin up, maybe next year!
Why because we beat the 6th ranked team in the extremely weak ACC who couldn’t get their undefeated team in the playoff?
Very happy to have you coach to represent our state and University.
Congratulations to Coach Brown and the entire WVU Team and Family. Morgantown is celebrating tonight! Thanks, team for an exciting season! Next year looks bright for WVU!
Congratulations Neal Brown and Mounties, well earned bowl W. Thanks Duke's Mayo for the great sponsorship.

Congratulations! You guys won as a team tonight. Great job.
Congratulations and let's go mountaineers 🏈 looking forward to next year.
Glad to see the enthusiasm on the sidelinesand thewhole game. That has been lacking onsome of the games this year. Great job andcongratulations
nice to see the old gold and blue finish strong #HailWV

I did indeed buy a lot of beer that night in Charlotte
Shocked he pulled it together and didn’t get fired.
Beanie is arguably the best corner in WVU history, considering the volume he faced
ESPN and all the haters are crying in their beers and choking on eating crow.
Our whole state owes this man an apology!
💯
For what? A mediocre season and bowl win?
