It's not about "shitty" bands, it's about unoriginal/clone bands. For example the excess wannabe Cannibal Corpse bands in Death Metal, the stagnant EBM/cyber industrial scene offering nothing new, the down-rite cookie cutter "rebellious" punk bands/fans, the commercializing of emotive hardcore turning it into screaming self-pity over excessive breakdowns etc... All genres are victim. Whether or not a band is "shitty" is opinion, but it is fact that clone bands exist.
Today it's just rap pretty much now, and country.

Darby Petersen It's a metaphor, my friend.. Mark David Chapman has been described as "killing the music industry" because of his assassination of John Lennon. Not everything is as it seems.
I feel the title fits seeing as music of now-a-days is just killing music for me.. I have so much trouble trying to find unique bands.
If you read the lyrics, it's basically saying we need to get rid of a lot of the usual and same stuff/bands we see in the music industry. MSI is saying they want to see more creativity.

It's a joke, really.. saying to just get rid of all the same trash (factory produced bands) and help clear the way for the unique bands. In some of their other lyrics they describe "being in prison" as basically saying they're stuck in an industry full of carbon copied bands and they can't really get recognized for their creativity cause there is just too much garbage in the music industry.

It's satire, and satire is based on truth. It's about what happens to genre stagnation, most genre's fall victim to it.

No wonder that Johnen Vasquez ended up working with Mindless self Indulgence. They are both emo consumed artists of the 90s whose work is also a self conscious parody of what emo people like in the first place.
In Johnen's old comics, the goths and emos are usually mocked as pretentious dorks who are not as original as they think. But at the same time they are filled with loads of emo emotional speeches and "gritty dark art style".
While Mindless Self Indulgence have songs like this, that openly say: "We are just another generic MTV band" "If you believe this you are so fucking lame". But at the same time, most of their songs are pure edgy metal.
They both are self parodies of the subgenre that they were a part of.

This band has been one of my favourites for very long time, im glad they're still live and kicking. I really like this musicvideos effects and style, so creative and looks damn good!
I was so shocked in a good way, when I heard MSI will visit for very first time in my country Finland next summer and thats gonna even happen in my home city Turku and not in Finlands capital city Helsinki, that blows my mind!
Fun fact: this song was made with the help of msi fans of myspace bacm in the day. Jimmy Would hold polls for what new thing to add and the ultimate name/subject of the song. Thats why the ending sounds so out of place lmao.

I'd say MSI's eclectic blend of old and new places them ahead of their time, right on time for me. A real life version of bands that once only existed in fantasy and comic books. I'm afraid to admit that while I don't like KISS all that much my obsession with MSI has allowed me to sympathize with those that do.

11 years WOW. I remember seeing this when it was new. I saw them in concert live at the house of blues roughly around 2009. Lynn Z was pregnant / had given birth so I didn't get too see her. But the stand in at the time did a great job. I even saw Jimmy's balls!
