A good tip is to stay hydrated. What I like to do is in-between drinking alcohol I get bottle water and Gatorade every five minutes and fill up my fridge so at night when it's time to go to bed you have all the water you need and Gatorade. If you are done drinking for the day you can get the cruiseline beers and tell them not to open and stor in you refrigerator. I took home all 5 carnival cruise micro beers
Yeah I made that mistake a couple weeks ago in Belize, it was so hot and I walked around about 20 miles that day. I got super dehydrated. I had to take the next day and a half off from drinking alcohol and rehydrate.
Another tip: if you and your significant other are going with another couple, you may want to consider having the two drinkers in the group book the same stateroom. Example: my wife and my friend's girl booked stateroom 1 because they don't drink very much. While me and my buddy booked stateroom 2, with the Cheers package. All we had to do, is swap my wife's luggage tag with my buddy's, so our luggage would end up in the right room. Then if the girls want a drink... you know... wink wink.
A friend told me that if you play the slots, insert your Sign & Sail card. Once you accumulate 1500 points, you will get the unlimited drink package for the rest of the cruise (casino use only). The 1500 points are not hard to accumulate. Just keep playing the slots. You can always play the penny machine! 🎉
You will lose more money getting to 1,500 points than what the cheers package is worth. The points are based off of how much money you spend at the slots. Higher bets= more points, lower bets= less points.
i maxxed out and did the 60 drinks. its plenty. they have amazing margaritas, rum daquiris and long island iced teas. seeing it be $0.00 every time really is awesome.
Just got off Freedom 3 days ago. Spent 595.00 on the drink package. At roughly 10.50/drink, you only need about 6 drinks each per day to pay for the package. Or drink tally was over 700.00 if we would’ve paid for each drink individually.
We always get the Cheers package. It takes no time at all to spend $60 at bars/dinner on a cruise ship. Four beers at the pool and two glasses of wine at dinner gets you to $60 with not effort. No matter what we are doing when going back to our stateroom, we get two beers whether we drink them at that time or not and fill the fridge in our room for hanging out on the balcony. Also, when we get to port we normally do a beach excursion. We bring a collapsible cooler and fill it with beers from our fridge.....Whalaahhh free beers on the beach (just dont flaunt the beers and you will be fine). I keep a tally of what we drink vs what we spent, and we always come out $2-$300 a head using the drink package. Make it work for you!
Yep I asked and was told it was policy to open the cans when served. Obviously they know what people are doing with the beverages. The cruise lines have extensive spread sheets with bean counters studying them. They will squeeze every dime they can out of each passenger.
Nice review. I'm glad that they included non alcoholic drinks to their package. I like to drink but on moderation during vacation. I get really sensitive when it comes to alcohol so I sometimes lay off with heavy drinks. A milk shake or some good ol coffee will get me satisfied Also, congrats to the winners!
Hey guys just found you guys! Great content. Very objective review of the drink package. We use to always get it until we found ourselves “chasing” 15 drinks because we had it. 😅😅😅
We don't cruise without a drink package! We know we drink enough to justify the cost. My husband goes and gets us specialty coffees first thing in the morning (most of the time 2 coffees each by the time I'm ready to leave the room.) Followed by a bloody Mary or two with breakfast. A couple of frozen drinks around the pool. Another specialty coffee mid-day. Then pre-dinner cocktail(s) at the Alchemy Bar, a glass of wine and a bottle of sparkling water at dinner. A decaf cappuccino with dessert and a cocktail or two in the casino. That totals MORE than the $60-$70 per day. Plus a the occasional milkshake (INCLUDED) if we're not impressed with dessert offerings. :-) WIN WIN!!
I know it changed so this was great. I knew it was only 15 a day, which is enough for some. Main reason i never go on carnival. Royal Caribbean does not restrict you. I don't drink everyday but, I don't want any limit restrictions. thank you for this!
I was hoping to hear about the non-alcoholic (soda) beverage packages. We couldn't get a clear answer from Carnival about what exactly we would get. The representative told us that "juice" was lemonade and that we would only get orange juice at breakfast.
If you’re looking for just free options you get: buffet dispensers so orange juice, mango-guava juice, water, black coffee, and sometimes apple juice for breakfast during lunch it’s coffee, lemonade, and iced tea. It’s pretty limited for free drinks

Make sure you get some milkshakes from Java Blue, they’re delicious. Our favorite cruise line has been Carnival in the past but there’s been a lot of cutbacks recently so we’re going to be trying a bunch of different lines this year because we’ve only done carnival post Covid.

What particularly sucks is that the cost is per day every day per person of the duration of the cruise and need to be purchased by everyone in your cabin. I never saw it as worth it especially since it can't be used when we are not on the ship.
Hey Jonathan, totally agree it varies on the person . It's expensive for the couples where one person drinks and the other doesn't. I know some people don't even get off the ships so for those people I can see it really being worth it.
If you don't drink much it's better to bring your allowed 2 bottles from home and when you are done with them order whole bottles from room service. It's better than ordering by the glass and you make your own mixes with the free tap sodas
It’s crazy that my offer with $250 OBC was cheaper to pay for the drinks separately as I was getting no OBC and the cruise fare was astronomical! I guess it depends on the sailing though. My cheers package hack is just order Belvedere martinis the whole day 🤣 the way to skirt around not getting a “double”
Just booked a 4 day bahamas cruise - The Cheers inclusive rate was about $100 more than the cheaper option/standard option adding the Cheers Package separately - its not always a better buy! Make sure to do the math on that package vs. buying the buying the Cheers separate!

I got off the glory 2 weeks ago. It was the first time I purchased the drink package. Even if I didn't drink $500 worth of alcohol, the Peace of Mind knowing that I'm not running up charges every time I swipe my card for a drink, trying to figure out how much I've spent up to that point. My settlement for a 7 day was $95. That's only cuz I dipped a dollar for every drink. I do cruise solo so it is cost-effective for one person to buy it, that is something to consider if you have more than 1 adult in your cabin.
Ive been on 2 without package and spent more than the package would have cost and I was drinking cheap beers and even getting buckets to get a little more savings. I always get the package now. Just six $10 drinks breaks you even (not including the non alcoholic stuff) and then Im drinking better drinks instead of restricting to cheap beer everytime. Also, if you dont like a drink you got you can just leave it and get another without hesitation because it is already paid. I also like the idea of if you're not going to hit the limit to grab some drinks and put them in your fridge for the next day, might try that next time because there's usually a day or 2 Ill be short the 15 then the next day Im cut off and would like a few more. Maybe, order the fridge drinks with no ice then add ice the next day when you're ready, or unopened beer.
One question.... Since I DO NOT consume 15 alcoholic drinks a day😬....what would you recommend? 15 is too much for me personally. And, I usually don't begin having a mixed drink until after 6pm. If you only drink 3 alcoholic drinks it’s definitely not worth it, however if you do speciality coffee and then like 3-4 bottles of water a day it’s starting to look a little more worth it. Honestly the calculator in the video description is good to play around with to see what’s good for you.
Carnival needs to do like Royal Caribbean!! On Royal 1 person in a cabin can get the drink package and not the other. I have an autoimmune liver disease and I cant drink at all. So its not fair that Im made to pay for something I cant use at all. Royal dose make me buy the soda package while my husband gets the alcohol package

I was able to get that drink package code for my upcoming cruise. I just did the calculations and if I'm right, we got the package for $13 a day for a 5 day cruise.
I've found from my cruises on Royal that I do not drink enough (on average over the entire cruise) to make sense financially. HOWEVER, I still get the drinks package. Why? Well, at least on Royal, if you have the package, they take your card, do something on the computer and give you your card back. Then they bring your drink. If you don't have the drinks package, you still have to give them your card, they come back with a receipt that you have to sign. It's a pain in the ass. I'd rather just get the drink and go. What is the process on Carnival? I'm going on Horizon in March.
You have to sign for every drink on carnival with or without the drink package the price per day is much less than Royal so it might be worth it for you to break even.
We sailed last year on the Vista. We could get muscle milk at the coffee shop. So we would get a muscle milk and water when ever we walked by and brought quite a few home. the drink package is definitely worth it. We are sailing on the Celebration in Dec. Do you know if they have that available?
Unless it has changed recently, you cannot use it on debarkation day. That would add an extra day to the tab. Some people were annoyed about that once they realized that at the coffee shop. My husband would get an energy drink the night before from there and put it in the fridge to have for the morning drive. I'd get a coffee if I still had cash on my account. Or maybe some people were just personally getting screwed lol 🤷🏽♀️.. or it's a Texas thing. We mostly cruise out of Galveston I do highly recommend the Alchemy bar for cocktails. They'll make you whatever you want if they have it.
Ah yes the drink package doesn’t work the first day out of Texas and New York due to local laws so the last day wouldn’t work at these ports. But every other port it does work, I used my cheers package last month on the last day to get a spiked coffee when I got off.

carnival splendor is now $115 a day Australia for drinks up to the value of $20 and a max of 15 drinks per day,but that didnt include coffee at the fancy coffee shops, i love my scotch and cokes, but on a longer cruise i was force feeding myself to get the value, going back aboard jan 28th 2024 for 11 nights, going to try not to get the package, and see how i go, maybe start off with beers then a few scotches.

I cruise single, so I have to pay double for my room. In the past where you couldn't buy the package for a single; the bar tenders would charge me different prices for the Same drink. I have also had extra drinks added on to my bill. SO BEWARE !
I purchased the drink package when I booked my cruise. Is the gratuities included in the drink package price or will I need to pay 18% gratuities on each drink ordered? Also does it start as soon as you board the ship or do you have to wait until you are out at sea? Thank you
Hey Bill, the 18% is included in the price so each drink will be $0 on board. The drink package starts when you get on board unless you’re departing from NYC or Texas
Things you failed to mention and I have verified this with Carnival. The 15 alcoholic drinks limit per day is also in effect if you don't have the drink package. Buying the souvenir classes also counts against your 15 drink limit per day even though you're paying for it (your buying the "glass"). If you purchase a drink that cost more than $20, it too counts against your 15 drink limit. You can buy someone else a drink, but they will be required to produce their sail and sign card, and it will count against their 15 drink limit. Be nice to your bartenders, and tip well, they may help you out with the 5 minute wait or the 15 per day limit.
Hey Robert, new to Carnival. You get 25% discount on a bottle of wine at the specialty restaurant if you choose to buy. So this bottle counts as one drink on the package for the one who ordered it? Or one each if two at your table? Or doesn’t count at all? Also if you order a bottle of wine in the MDR you pay full price and counts as only one drink?
It depends on how many drinks you’ll drink, if both people drink over 7 a day the package is worth it. If you don’t drink that many do not get the package.
Help me understand... You said if we have the cheers package that we paid for debarkation day and get free drinks that day. However, I just looked at my cruise starting on a Sunday, and getting off on Sunday. That's actually 8 days. Just to make it more interesting, we are doing a back to back, and have only purchased cheers on the first cruise. When do you think they'll stop giving us free drinks on debarkation day of our first cruise?

They will not serve you doubles in the drink package nor can you pay to upgrade it out of pocket. Tip the bar tenders at the bar you’re going to be at and they will definitely take care of you 😉

Pretty sure the debark day is the 8th day . I don’t think it’s included . I could be wrong . Let me know if you have confirmed this , thanks . Like your content. Also another tip . And maybe you didn’t want to include . But , I take a insulated dry bag . Fill it with ice and collect beers throughout cruise from Pizza place . On the private island intake beers with me . Never been questioned . I usually hang my snorkel gear on the outside of it . Nobody ever looks :) lol

I might have gotten this wrong, but what is the 'small print' on drinks when the ship is in port? Is it the same as underway? Can I stay on board, by the pool, and drink using my package?
So my question..my son is 22 so not the 24 that carnival required to put his name on the room, so I put him with in in a room and my husband in the other.. my husband and I would like the cheers package but my son doesn’t drink and only needs the soda package. Can I purchase the cheers package for our room and my husband use the other card and my son use the soda card??
Whoever is in the same room needs to get the cheers package regardless if they drink or not to prevent sharing. But he can be 22 and be in a room by himself when I was 21 I would cruise with people also in their early 20s, you might want to ask about moving him.
Too many rules, doesn't sound fun! I'd rather have my own yacht and drink as much as I want, when I want. Cruising sucks these days, too many restrictions, and feel like a cow hurdle with lines everywhere to get on, off ship, etc. Giving me a headache listening to rule after rule, "can't do this, "can't do that"

Honestly Bridgette I would consider using a product called rum runner flask and sneak a few bottles worth of booze in your suitcase and use free juices to make mix drinks for the rest just pay for the drinks as you go.

Hey Jonathan, totally agree it varies on the person . It's expensive for the couples where one person drinks and the other doesn't. I know some people don't even get off the ships so for those people I can see it really being worth it.
If you don't drink much it's better to bring your allowed 2 bottles from home and when you are done with them order whole bottles from room service. It's better than ordering by the glass and you make your own mixes with the free tap sodas

It’s crazy that my offer with $250 OBC was cheaper to pay for the drinks separately as I was getting no OBC and the cruise fare was astronomical! I guess it depends on the sailing though. My cheers package hack is just order Belvedere martinis the whole day 🤣 the way to skirt around not getting a “double”

Just booked a 4 day bahamas cruise - The Cheers inclusive rate was about $100 more than the cheaper option/standard option adding the Cheers Package separately - its not always a better buy! Make sure to do the math on that package vs. buying the buying the Cheers separate!

I got off the glory 2 weeks ago. It was the first time I purchased the drink package. Even if I didn't drink $500 worth of alcohol, the Peace of Mind knowing that I'm not running up charges every time I swipe my card for a drink, trying to figure out how much I've spent up to that point. My settlement for a 7 day was $95. That's only cuz I dipped a dollar for every drink. I do cruise solo so it is cost-effective for one person to buy it, that is something to consider if you have more than 1 adult in your cabin.
It’s a great peace of mind purchase, did you have to pay for two people even though you were solo?
Ive been on 2 without package and spent more than the package would have cost and I was drinking cheap beers and even getting buckets to get a little more savings. I always get the package now. Just six $10 drinks breaks you even (not including the non alcoholic stuff) and then Im drinking better drinks instead of restricting to cheap beer everytime. Also, if you dont like a drink you got you can just leave it and get another without hesitation because it is already paid. I also like the idea of if you're not going to hit the limit to grab some drinks and put them in your fridge for the next day, might try that next time because there's usually a day or 2 Ill be short the 15 then the next day Im cut off and would like a few more. Maybe, order the fridge drinks with no ice then add ice the next day when you're ready, or unopened beer.

Since I DO NOT consume 15 alcoholic drinks a day😬....what would you recommend? 15 is too much for me personally. And, I usually don't begin having a mixed drink until after 6pm.

If you only drink 3 alcoholic drinks it’s definitely not worth it, however if you do speciality coffee and then like 3-4 bottles of water a day it’s starting to look a little more worth it. Honestly the calculator in the video description is good to play around with to see what’s good for you.
Whenever the cheers package is included with the cruise, the price for the cruise goes up to around $400 more.
It does but honestly you’re still ahead compared to purchasing it separately.
Carnival needs to do like Royal Caribbean!! On Royal 1 person in a cabin can get the drink package and not the other. I have an autoimmune liver disease and I cant drink at all. So its not fair that Im made to pay for something I cant use at all. Royal dose make me buy the soda package while my husband gets the alcohol package

Hey Jesse, each guest is allowed to bring a bottle of wine on board not hard liquor. You can now get bottles delivered to your room again for a fee!

Where do ya get a code
I've found from my cruises on Royal that I do not drink enough (on average over the entire cruise) to make sense financially. HOWEVER, I still get the drinks package. Why? Well, at least on Royal, if you have the package, they take your card, do something on the computer and give you your card back. Then they bring your drink. If you don't have the drinks package, you still have to give them your card, they come back with a receipt that you have to sign. It's a pain in the ass. I'd rather just get the drink and go.
What is the process on Carnival? I'm going on Horizon in March.
You have to sign for every drink on carnival with or without the drink package the price per day is much less than Royal so it might be worth it for you to break even.

We sailed last year on the Vista. We could get muscle milk at the coffee shop. So we would get a muscle milk and water when ever we walked by and brought quite a few home. the drink package is definitely worth it. We are sailing on the Celebration in Dec. Do you know if they have that available?
All the ships carry the same brands so it will probably be similar to the vistas selection!

Unless it has changed recently, you cannot use it on debarkation day. That would add an extra day to the tab. Some people were annoyed about that once they realized that at the coffee shop. My husband would get an energy drink the night before from there and put it in the fridge to have for the morning drive. I'd get a coffee if I still had cash on my account. Or maybe some people were just personally getting screwed lol 🤷🏽♀️.. or it's a Texas thing. We mostly cruise out of Galveston
I do highly recommend the Alchemy bar for cocktails. They'll make you whatever you want if they have it.
Ah yes the drink package doesn’t work the first day out of Texas and New York due to local laws so the last day wouldn’t work at these ports. But every other port it does work, I used my cheers package last month on the last day to get a spiked coffee when I got off.

carnival splendor is now $115 a day Australia for drinks up to the value of $20 and a max of 15 drinks per day,but that didnt include coffee at the fancy coffee shops, i love my scotch and cokes, but on a longer cruise i was force feeding myself to get the value, going back aboard jan 28th 2024 for 11 nights, going to try not to get the package, and see how i go, maybe start off with beers then a few scotches.

I cruise single, so I have to pay double for my room. In the past where you couldn't buy the package for a single; the bar tenders would charge me different prices for the Same drink. I have also had extra drinks added on to my bill. SO BEWARE !

Hey Bill, the 18% is included in the price so each drink will be $0 on board. The drink package starts when you get on board unless you’re departing from NYC or Texas

Things you failed to mention and I have verified this with Carnival. The 15 alcoholic drinks limit per day is also in effect if you don't have the drink package. Buying the souvenir classes also counts against your 15 drink limit per day even though you're paying for it (your buying the "glass"). If you purchase a drink that cost more than $20, it too counts against your 15 drink limit. You can buy someone else a drink, but they will be required to produce their sail and sign card, and it will count against their 15 drink limit. Be nice to your bartenders, and tip well, they may help you out with the 5 minute wait or the 15 per day limit.

Hey Robert, new to Carnival. You get 25% discount on a bottle of wine at the specialty restaurant if you choose to buy. So this bottle counts as one drink on the package for the one who ordered it? Or one each if two at your table? Or doesn’t count at all? Also if you order a bottle of wine in the MDR you pay full price and counts as only one drink?
Bottles do not count at all towards you limit ironically enough.

It depends on how many drinks you’ll drink, if both people drink over 7 a day the package is worth it. If you don’t drink that many do not get the package.

Help me understand... You said if we have the cheers package that we paid for debarkation day and get free drinks that day. However, I just looked at my cruise starting on a Sunday, and getting off on Sunday. That's actually 8 days.
Just to make it more interesting, we are doing a back to back, and have only purchased cheers on the first cruise. When do you think they'll stop giving us free drinks on debarkation day of our first cruise?
On back to backs it will probably be when they start boarding the second round of passengers on so 10am-ish I would assume

They will not serve you doubles in the drink package nor can you pay to upgrade it out of pocket. Tip the bar tenders at the bar you’re going to be at and they will definitely take care of you 😉

And maybe you didn’t want to include . But , I take a insulated dry bag . Fill it with ice and collect beers throughout cruise from Pizza place . On the private island intake beers with me . Never been questioned . I usually hang my snorkel gear on the outside of it . Nobody ever looks :) lol

You absolutely can Victoria, some ports you’ll have to pay sales tax on the drink itself but that’s less than 20 cents a drink when you’re in port.

I feel like this depends on the bartender, we’ve paid out of pocket for the pitchers before but some people in the comments say otherwise.
So my question..my son is 22 so not the 24 that carnival required to put his name on the room, so I put him with in in a room and my husband in the other.. my husband and I would like the cheers package but my son doesn’t drink and only needs the soda package. Can I purchase the cheers package for our room and my husband use the other card and my son use the soda card??
Whoever is in the same room needs to get the cheers package regardless if they drink or not to prevent sharing. But he can be 22 and be in a room by himself when I was 21 I would cruise with people also in their early 20s, you might want to ask about moving him.
Too many rules, doesn't sound fun! I'd rather have my own yacht and drink as much as I want, when I want. Cruising sucks these days, too many restrictions, and feel like a cow hurdle with lines everywhere to get on, off ship, etc. Giving me a headache listening to rule after rule, "can't do this, "can't do that"

Honestly Bridgette I would consider using a product called rum runner flask and sneak a few bottles worth of booze in your suitcase and use free juices to make mix drinks for the rest just pay for the drinks as you go.
Why would it not include fresh squeeze juices 😢 that was one of the main drinks I wanted (other than margs)
