We purchased the Cheers package for our first cruise, mainly for convenience. We were never in the really drunk stage, but had a drink in hand almost the entire cruise. At the end of our 8 days we had consumed over $1800 in drinks. i will always get "Cheers".
Did Cheers package on our first carnival cruise? But on our second we decided not to get it and pay for drinks individually. We found out and made more sense to not get the package. You have to drink way too much to break even.
In March my waiter in the MDR said 'You aren't getting your money's worth from Cheers. I will help you.' He asked me questions and figured out what I might like, then said he was going to prepare 'six course alcohol' every night with dinner. Too busy with Sailabration activities one night he only did 4 or 5. He said he would make it up the next night. The last night of the cruise he made 9 drinks during dinner. 2 martinis, 6 shots, asked a glass of wine. I took notes so I would remember the good drinks, and have a picture showing the 9 empty glasses. :-)

Yes! We usually walk around with a small backpack and collect waters throughout the day to keep in our cabin at night. Nothing worse than waking up at night and resorting to sink water!
Oh yes the alchemy bar is dangerous but it’s my favorite place for drinks. We’ll explained I totally agree! I don’t drink that many alcoholic drinks during the day and I don’t like mixing but the cheers package still is worth it, as also the waters and coffee ara part of it. I usually buy it before the cruise with my onboard credits.

get it! If you think you're going to use it... We had a couple join us on a cruise and they snuck on a few bottles of liquor. They ended up spending way more per day on drinks than the drink package cost, because they didn't want to keep going back to their room to make drinks

Thanks for watching!! Bucket of beer is not worth it. It will count towards your limit, and it won't be included. So, you will be charged for it. Better to just have a cocktail waiter bring you the beers as you go

alchemy, that purple topped drink, what was that?? Cheers tips: get shots on your way to the cabin, put them in a water bottle and take them into port/or home w/you. Drink martinis, Long Island Teas... all the specialty coffees, sodas and bottled waters you can handle. Also, grab the starbucks in a bottle drinks. Tip the bartender (even though you already tipped 18%) and ask for a soda without the can being opened and save it for later. Try things you've never had before. The biggest perk to Cheers is no worries, it is already paid for!! IMO @ drink 5.. i break even! CHEERS is totally worth it.. unless, like you said, you are a 1 or 2 drinks per day person
When you order the energy drinks and cans of soda do they open them right then or do they just hand it to you? Was thinking about getting a couple for port days.

My husband is not the drinker and we are taking our kids so we put 1 adult in each room to avoid buying two packages (someone laced me up on that one lol) but I still don't know for me if I should. I like to drink but 15 for 1 is a LOOOTTT! but good thing is it does include other options. Guess we would need to do our checks and balance to see if it is worth it or not. You guys still bought drinks once yall was at the ports to right? I know it doesn't cover that.

100% with a big BUT …need to Cruise with another set of friends who don’t purchase the drink package..because in many cases 15 is not enough (remember we’re on vacation here and talking a short 4-5 day-er)..Realistically 2-3 mimosas in am with breakfast/brunch 5-7 watered down frozen drinks or beers by the pools 2 at dinner and then bar hopping in evenings will leave you high and dry…and a forced early nite “retirement “from drinking..

Great question. Those should count towards your 15, but also not included, you will have to purchase. Best bang for your buck is to just order per drink and there's usually a few cocktail servers that walk around the pools and spas taking orders. No need to get out for every drink. Plus I don't think they do pitchers of margs by the pools. I've seen them in the Red Frog pub however
We've never purchased the drink package on 13+ carnival cruises but we sailed Royal(Allure) for 1st time and did purchase the drink package. Royal allowed me to buy the drink package and wife purchased the refreshment package. Wish Carnival would allow this. Also read that from Galveston you cannot use drink package first day? Why?
Texas has different law pertaining to selling alcohol as a package. Same as New York sailings. Therefore Carnival doesn't charge you for that time if you have Cheers, and you can't use it until you hit international waters

It's different for everyone. We always buy it, but some of our closest cruise friends never do. It's just not worth it if you don't use it

Great question! You only pay taxes until you sail away. Once you are out at sea and for the rest of the cruise there are no taxes

We just bought the cheers package. With them adding the gratuity, I feel I should still tip the bartender or server. Did you all still tip?
Yes. We almost always add an extra buck or 2. And at the end of the cruise we'll add a 20 on the tip line for some of our favorite bartenders

Yes you can. Carnival changed their policy about a year ago. You used to NOT be able to spend it before your cruise. Now you can!
