    Glad you've discovered MMO benefits. Personally I've used it too. My Dad showed me what MMO will do with engines fifty years ago. Oil or gasoline, hydraulic lifters magically rejuvenate after a bath. Piston rings do what they're supposed to do. Flexing and sealing. MMO poured down caburetors clean intakes. In the oil, PVC valves clean up too. Watch a vaccuum guage before and after appling MMO. A sticky hydraulic lifter showing up on a vacuum guage will clear up. Diesel fuel injectors will clean up too. Lots more to say. ....

    About a month ago I bought a 2002 Chevrolet Tracker 2.0L engine in San Antonio, Texas that was stated it burned/ leaked a little oil. I noticed it was down 1/2 a quart so I topped it off with 29 ounces of MMO and 8 ounces in the gas tank. Then I drove the 260 mile trip home at about 65mph all the way. 70 miles later I topped off the gas tank and it was running much smoother. Sunday I changed the oil that was a golden color on Tuesday and it came out pitch black. I put Supertech high mileage synthetic oil back in the motor along with NGK Iridium spark plugs and the difference was night and day. Now no more oil burning or leaks. That little Suzuki J20A engine just needed some TLC. Marvel Mystery oil really is the fountain of youth for engines.

    A good friend of mine a long time ago (he is now deceased), worked at the Lima Engine Plant (Lima, Ohio) at the time the 428 Super Cobra Jets were being assembled. He told me something I haven't forgotten for over 40-years...that on a NEW ENGINE (of that day, regardless of the manufacturer), with tight tolerances, THE BEST ENGINE OIL, bar-NONE, was MERCON/DEXRON III transmission fluid! In reality, all MMO is, is Mercon/Dexron III with a higher detergent load and some extra lubricant polymers...he told me, that in 'never-released' Ford testing, that they saw TWICE the lifespan of machine surfaces in engines that NEVER saw oil, but instead, were kept on the 'transmission fluid diet' all their life! He said it was NOT strange to get 240,000 to 350,000 miles between rebuilds of a 302 when treated as such. He said that after initial break-in (which was done on 10-W-30 equivalent, to allow proper ring and valve seating to 500-miles), filter cut-downs showed far less metal loss than a comparable engine kept on motor oil.
    Why was this 'never promoted' to end customers? Simple...'plan for obsolescence'...that's where C-6's went away, as did GM's Turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmissions. There was a formal release by GM on the TH-400 transmission life-story, actually...starting life with an expectancy of 400,000 miles between 'friction disk replacements', they were not getting 'sufficient replacement demands' to sell replacement transmissions, so they began a 'MTBF test' (mean-time between failures), and when they saw that the transmission was outlasting the car, the engine, etc., they started 'removing robust parts' and replacing them with lighter materials, polymers, etc. to the point that the TH-400 ended with a 270,000 mile MTBF life. When they saw it was this high still, they moved the transmission model to availability only in their TRUCK line. It only returned (in a very 'new' form) as the 4L80 many years later...located behind 400+ horsepower musclecars.
    I don't know about compatibility with 'new electronic engines', but my 1-Ton Chevy K-30 has a 400-small block in it, almost 300,000 miles on it...and has never ran a single oil change on motor oil...ONLY Dexron III transmission fluid...passing through a Mobile-1 filter...the best filter on the market (only comparable to the Royal Purple brand...which, incidentally, is made by the same company)...GREAT for older engines, due to the backflow valve design!
    If you rebuild a new motor...double its life from the start...Mobile-1 filters, and DEXRON III...you'll thank yourself for it!

    Marvel Mystery oil is approaching its 100th birthday. It was originally composed primarily of mineral oil, that was the highest percentage of byproducts resulting in oil refining. It contains mineral spirits so often used by painters but in less percentage than you've placed in the oil of the Dodge. It possesses good striping properties because it contains both ortho and para dichlorobenzene. It uses an extreme pressure lubricant named tricresyl phosphate where phosphorus holds three methyl-benzene units at the bottom of its tetrahedral unit with a very polar (charged) oxygen atom pointing up. That percentage can be claimed to be as high as 1%.
    I personally would change out the Marvel Mystery Oil and motor oil combination at your 1200 mile mark and refresh that mix and run it again if needed. I think it wise to pull that filter when you did as a microscope view of the material in the Fram would show pores dramatically blocked off.
    Keep in mind Marvel Mystery Oil has a low flash point and will burn like crazy.

    It smells good too. I have been using Marvel in the oil and gas for 15 years. I put half quart in the oil, the other in the tank along with some Lucas, if nothing else for lubrication. You want to see spark plugs look like new? put some Marvel in the plug holes and let it run. It will smoke for quite awhile but the plug will look clean as new. I also have used Supertech filters for 20 years, great cheap filters. My Walmart does not sell them anymore sadly so I had to find another brand, and the Quakerstate filters are just as good at Menards, but sadly those have also disappeared.

Then again I used "walmart brand" oil in my grand marquis before i sold it. Never used a Supertech filter as atleast in my local walmart they're either out or look like they were used to play baseball in the back of the store. Personally have always used the motorcraft filter on my panther platforms ,but have been looking into Amsoil and their filter so can't wait to see how that goes in your Town Car.

I don't know how long I will keep it in there but will keep a sharp eye on it. Engine doesn't have but 91,000 k on it so thought this would be a good time to use MMO in it a clean it up.

I wonder how many guys damaged their engines by waiting until the next oil change because of how well it is working. I can see a really dirty engine clogging a tight filter up. It would explain why some of them say not to use Marvel because it will destroy your engine.

      If MMO destroyed engines the company would have been sued out of existence years ago. Remember, MMO has been around since 1923. I dare say that MMO was not the culprit that destroyed "some of them's" engines; MMO will not improve a mechanically damaged engine. Back in the 70's we used to put a little varsol in the engine right before changing the oil/filter, run it for half a minute or so, then change the oil/filter. Worked great for combating sludge build up from conventional 10w30 oil. I've been using MMO in cars and lawn mowers since the 70's and never had an engine fail from poor oil circulation/lubrication, nor develop a ticking valve or knocking connecting rod. Just lucky I guess.....

      @stevemiller6766 Před 3 lety +2

      I think the problem with the Fram filters is the light duty construction inside. For normal around town use it's probably OK but if they get plugged up from crud the cardboard ends might let loose. I would prefer to use the OEM filter or one with a bit more durable construction inside. I've used Frams for many yeas without issue on old cars but on my power stroke and Mazda i use the Motorcraft filter designed for it. Fram might out just fine but I hope to nurse all the life outta these vehicles ASAP.

    Just remember all that crap caught in the filter went thru the oil pickup screen then the oil pump. It would be useful to use a bore scope to check the oil pick up screen to make sure it isn't getting clogged with the trash that has been moved to the oil pan from the mmo. Just a suggestion. I have no idea how hard it would be to pull the oil pan to clean the screen. Glad it is running so much better

    • @garymcmullin2292
      @garymcmullin2292 Před 2 lety

      good observation, I would expect that stop/start cycles would allow the screen to dump its load into the pan at least for the larger particles that would be caught. Older engines generally had a pretty large mesh screen so probability of a plug up seems remote? But the down side to all this is that the oil has become a reservoir of abrasive particles, kind a damned if you do damned it you don't situation. It is a different world now in automotive sense, in the early days of non detergent oils they were designed to cause sludge build up and thus capture abrasive particles in the sludge and you dared not use anything to dissolve the sludge.
