  • A Comprehensive Guide to Installing Cork Wall Tiles or Panels
Welcome to our comprehensive guide on installing cork wall tiles or panels. In this video, we'll take you through the step-by-step process, from preparing the surface to applying adhesive and completing the installation. Let's get started!
Before we begin, it's important to let the cork wall tiles acclimate inside their packaging for 48-72 hours. Maintain the temperature and humidity within the installation area consistent with the occupied conditions.
Here are the tools you'll need for the installation: a cutter, ruler, pencil, chalk line, roller, wooden or rubber mallet, pinch roller, and water-based contact adhesive.
The quality of the installation depends on proper surface preparation. Ensure the wall is level, smooth, dry, and free from any residues. Prime the surface with two coats of water or latex-based primer if installing on drywall or smooth-sided plywood.
Cork is a natural material with slight variations in color and structure. Before installation, shuffle different packs to achieve a harmonious blend. Check for any differences in size between tiles and group tiles of the same size if necessary.
Measure the width and length of the wall, then mark a guideline in the middle. Lay out the cork wall tiles on the floor and adjust them until you're satisfied with the layout. Use chalk lines to mark the placement of tiles and indicate every third row as a guide during installation.
Use a high-quality, low-nap microfiber roller to apply water-based contact adhesive on the back of the tiles. Apply a coat of adhesive to the wall as well. Wait for the adhesive to turn clear and become tacky to the touch before proceeding.
Starting from the guideline, carefully place the tiles along the wall, aligning each subsequent tile to the edges of the previous one. Pay close attention to alignment and ensure tight seams. Use a rubber hammer to tap each tile and a roller to press it firmly, especially around corners and edges.
Mark the back of the tiles where they need to be cut, and use a sharp utility knife to slice them. Press the cut tiles in place on the wall. Trim corner tiles as needed, similar to fitting puzzle pieces when reaching the sides of the walls.
If you've installed 6mm or 8mm cork tiles on walls, we recommend applying 1-2 coats of Loba 2K Supra AT polyurethane to seal the seams and prevent shrinkage. This step is not necessary for textured wall panels.
To maintain your cork wall tiles, avoid cleaning products with abrasive ingredients or solvents. Instead, use gentle cleaning methods suitable for cork surfaces. Additionally, protect your cork from excessive sunlight by using blinds or curtains.
Congratulations! You've successfully installed your cork wall tiles or panels. By following these steps and taking proper care of your cork, you can enjoy the beauty and functionality it brings to your space. Thank you for watching!
