Had one of these for two years. Was sick!! Man I used it for everything from moving ply and cement for building projects, moving logs, camping trips, even towing small trailers. These things are so wicked. Sills went on mine, had em welded for an MOT and like you said it was a bit bodge. Getting another one soon hopefully though. I wish I never sold the first one. Loved your video mate. Props!

They are crazy handy aren’t they! Currently doing some work to mine, will have a video up soon hopefully. Sills are a bit questionable on this one, that’ll be the next job. Thanks for watching man!

The best part from this car is it uses leaf spring instead of normal absorber for rear side.

@@jeffestrada6857 I've got one too! Like you, I find it extremely reliable, a cinch to park & easy to drive. Won't be selling mine anytime soon as I know these utes will become extremely sought after.
The only main issue I have is that it's a bit sluggish on hills.

  • @Afeeq1011

This car doesn't lose it value in the current market in Malaysia because of it's novelty, I think it may lose at most 15% of it's initial value. Not to mention since it's lancer based, a lot of people who owns the car knows it's cult following, except for those who actually bought for utility. Proton then was pretty "experimental" and produce lots of models compared to the current Proton, it was ahead of it's time but since it too much of a niche car it flopped locally. Proton also have a rebadged Mitsubishi Townbox but like the Jumbuck, sadly flopped but with a cult following.

  • @roberthunter6927
    @roberthunter6927 Před 3 lety +3

An excellent review, and I also appreciated the comments from the other viewers. I didn't know you could use Mitsubishi Lancer parts on the Jumbuck for at least most of the front half. The crash test is a bit of bad news, and Great Walls [Chinese cheap utes] have a similar very low safety rating. I wonder if a crash/bull/nudge bar would improve safety a bit? These bars are only as good as their mounting points, so perhaps someone with more expertise could say if this is a good idea or not. Since the ride is improved with a small load in the back [which is the same for most utes] having a bull-bar might make the unit too front-heavy unless loaded. Possibly an aluminium crash bar would mitigate this?
The trouble with modern utes [translation for non-Aussies: a small truck, often with a sedan-car type front end] is so many gadgets and complications, some good, some simply useless for a commercial type vehicle. In a low-price end vehicle, they probably won't work anyway.

I got the last production Proton Jumbuck GL (2010) in Australia 🇦🇺 By the way the only reason they stopped importing these into Australia as it failed big time the ANCAP crash rating it didn’t even score one star out of 5! But cars are built to drive not crash 💥
    Anyway....
It’s in Fantastic con with only 60,000 kms...about 37,000 miles...
    I love it !
It’s simple easy park/ drive economical and suits me to the ground. I use it for everyday stuff and loading my Husqvarna dirt bike in the back. I will go as far to say that it’s the best simple car I ever had. The only problem you cannot get an original genuine service manual from Proton. I tried all over the world including when I was in Kuala Lumpur the Proton dealer didn’t have any idea how to obtain one.
    Good luck with yours

I've got one and its perfect for me. I am going to do a rebuild soon as the body is still in great condition. Some parts are hard to get like the coolant pipe from the water pump, radiator hoses, exhaust hangers.
A reco engine is going in along with new extractors and exhaust system, front end, radio, radiator, tonneau cover. Simply worth keeping on the road

Prices from the car wreckers in Australia are ridiculous. One tail light is $400aus and a coolant cross over pipe from England was far more.
I am doing my JUMBUCK up cause it is well built, and a very reliable ute. I have driven 170klm per day for the last 4 years and its never let me down
