- HELLO!! I'm so excited you're here today to see how we transformed my moms small & awkward apartment into a beautiful & functional AirBnB!! → www.airbnb.com/h/cozymissoula... The best part is that this tiny apartment makeover came together on a small budget AND in less than a week!! 🤯 We of course painted every single wall, added a wood feature wall in the bedroom along with an accent wall in the living room to make the small space intentionally cozy. Then we gave the kitchen a makeover of its own, but on a budget, by painting the outdated cabinets white, adding hardware & a new faucet. We continued moving throughout the small apartment and after 6 days, we now have a small AirBnB that anyone would love to stay in! I believe that knowing the reason for people to stay in an AirBnB helps you provide a superior experience. For example, here in my city people are usually on business trips so it’s important that we have access to power points throughout the apartment. I also appreciate recommendations on take away and delivery restaurants nearby. 😬
I have owned several airbnb's in the past and I own one now. In the smallest space I had which was a little bit larger than a bedroom, I added a small fold down desk mounted on the wall so when not in use, it was flush against the wall.
Also a must for people who are traveling is a folding luggage rack when there's no dresser to store clothing in and it doesn't take up very much space when not in use.
I also left a little gift basket of goodies like some chocolates, a small bottle of wine, or tickets to a local attraction. Those little additions always got thank you's, rave reviews, even reciprocated gifts left for me by my guests, and the best part was often repeat business. I loved hosting the same guests again and they referred me to their friends and family so I got even more guests that way. The little things mean a lot.
This space will be deemed a Super Host place for sure❤🎉 Keep some beverages in the fridge like little waters and juices❤️⛄️
It's beautiful Amanda! Don't forget a guestbook for all the guests to sign and leave wonderful comments in! Sometimes hosts will also include brochures or local maps for interesting places to visit while guests stay there. Something your mom might want to consider down the road is replacing the refrigerator with a much smaller one and creating a coffee bar above it, with a basket of complimentary snacks (like local baked goods, etc.).

IMO a physical guest book isn't necessary in an Airbnb because the online platform provides scope for this
@@stephm6573 The online platform is great for promoting the Airbnbs through reviews but for the owners and hosts, handwritten notes from guests during their stay is much more personal. I've watched the videos of a few different CZcamsrs who visit and review all sorts of different Airbnb rentals and most of them have a guestbook along with a welcome basket of goodies for their guests to enjoy.
I would stay there because the first thing I look for is cleanliness. Great Super Hosts usually have a binder of suggestions on restaurants, shopping and things to do in the area. So helpful.
It looks amazing! One thing I love to have is a binder with recommendations and names of places to eat, nearby grocery store, laundromat,things to see and do, and a list of hiking trails. A small cooler makes taking a picnic lunch somewhere so much easier. Travel mugs and insulated water jugs are amazing to have. Also, having ziplock bags, plastic wrap, and aluminum foil is wonderful. A hairdryer is wonderful. Having a pad of paper and pens is super helpful too.

I second a binder of recommendations! I have stayed at rental places before and I wish I had that! I know with smart phones people have maps and directions but I would add that to the binder as well.
I learned from working in hotels you can lose a lot of profits from those who will take every thing with them, do sample sizes and don’t go overboard.
Check sink and shower traps regularly, they fill up with hair fast.
Coffee pod type coffee maker with pods, full length mirror, cork screw, scissors, simple pots and pans, cookie sheet, lots of toilet paper and towels. Throw blankets, pet bowls if you allow pets. Water filter love the makeover it’s going to be great! ❤

I would add basic sundries, like shampoo, soap, bandaid, peroxide the small things have for guests, sample sizes. Forgot to mention, Fresh flowers at check in.
I can’t believe the transformation of that apt. What a wonderful thing to do for your Mom. It looks amazing. I would like to have some emergency bathroom items like toothpaste, floss, little soaps, shampoo/conditioner. Salt & pepper, napkins, paper towels in the kitchen. I stayed in a b&b there was a bottle of wine in fridge with a nice note saying thank you for choosing us. I love the creativity with the black and white paint. Accent wall in lr looks great.
Looks amazing! Some adds- Porta crib in the closet, salt and pepper, paper towels, water in the fridge, throw out any extra condiments that the previous guest might leave, cleaning supplies(just in case we have a spill). Broom, dust pan. Maybe a local treat or baked bread. Deck of cards.

My sister ran her own Airbnb in the UK & was a superhost. What her visitors found
invaluable was a folder of local information. This should include the WiFi password, local restaurants with phone numbers to make reservations, local takeaway places with phone numbers, local coffee shops etc. Also include pamphlets (if you can get them) of nearby places of interest such as museums, galleries, cinemas, theme parks, open farms & also dates of interest like Christmas fayres etc. Information on local small businesses such as bakeries, gift shops, craft stores (that sell their own crafts etc) is also good business for your community.
A welcome letter with a basket containing fresh bread, maybe a bottle of wine, fresh milk in the fridge etc also helps if you aim to be a superhost. A visitors book is a nice touch as well.

Good call to paint higher, it really makes the room look taller. I’m glad you chose a slim-lined sofa, it’s a much better proportion for the room. The whole thing has come together beautifully. Well done, everyone. Little things like soap/body wash,; shampoo and conditioner; hairdryer are always appreciated in an Air BnB. They are certainly amenities I look for, they save me from having to pack them, especially when I’m coming from overseas and have weight restrictions.
I would get a marble paint kit to do the kitchen counters, it’s so easy!
We recently stayed in an air bnb with my whole family. My mom felt it would have been helpful had a vacuum, broom, and mop been provided to do her own little clean ups if there should have been a spill or mess made.

I have made that same request at rental homes I’ve stayed in on the North Carolina coast because I always want to be a good guest, who is allowed to return!
I love EVERYTHING about this transformation!! The only suggestion I would say is putting marbled contact paper on the kitchen counters to match the island and tie it in even more!!

I love how it turned out. I love having a coffee station and a binder with area attractions, restaurants, important phone numbers, etc. I also love when there's a journal or book with a welcome message and an area for guests to leave notes and recommendations. One of my favorite air bnb had a chalkboard with a personalized message for us and a small basket of local treats (handmade soap, chocolates, and snacks).
This is one of the most loved videos for me, that you have done. You are helping your Mom. You are spending time with your family during a difficult first after a death. The time you spent transforming a space that will be helpful for your Mom is beyond. I dont have enough words.

Crock pot, air fryer, instapot. You could also easily store a pack n play and collapsible highchair under the bed so you could accommodate a young family. It looks fantastic

You all did well! You all seemed to have it down with what you wanted to provide. We look for pots, pans, utensils, tea, coffee and basic spices. It's been nice when they leave a bottle of wine (can be cheap) on the table or kitchen to greet you. Also nice to have shampoo, conditioner, and blow dryer. Otherwise, that covers it. Looks great !
I always like to have a hair dryer and a wine opener at Air B&B. You did an amazing job. At first I thought too much white but it works. Really nice
I’ve never stayed in an Air bnb but two things that impress me are exceptional cleanliness and details that make the stay more convenient; that can range from a handy shelf/hook for keys, to a Visitors book that has takeout menus, local attractions etc. A fresh coat of paint always makes a big impact. I’m so glad you painted all of the wood and I think it’s better to paint the bathroom towel rack etc. and then use the revenue from the air bnb to replace them in time. Good music in this video! Hey Amanda, being respectful that there was a budget to follow you did a great job, those end details, although small make a big difference. What I think always makes me want to stay in AirBnb's, 1. A comfy bed with good quality bedding & a table and a small reading lamp...2. Seperate bedroom from the living area, (you may want to rethink that opening and put heavy wood shutters to block out light & noise from the fridge)...3. Kitchen with glass top in-bench hot plates for easy cleaning, oven, microwave, coffee machine & dishwasher...(i.e. & under bench washing machine)...4. Clean, light filled spaces, and quality amenities (4 ply toilet paper, quality liquid soaps) and fresh flower's. My senses automatically look for cleanliness, good vibe's with the smell's and a place to put my feet up with a cuppa and read (bottle of white wine & port are always welcoming after a long trip and a cappaccino). Just a few thoughts that may be added down the track, once said by a wise person, "If I have a Garden and a Library I have everything I need", so maybe some seating chairs and table outside for warmer month's.....Rozzie...Brisbane...Australia :)
The fridge is overwhelming for the space, could you aford to put a fridge that is smaller (but not a bar fridge as that looks cheap) and some shelves above it with books & games and a CD player for music as I am not sure if your TV will play CD's. Ohh and a blue ray player and some classic movies for holiday times related to Xmas, Easter, Valentine's Day & New Year as this is when many people vacation. Also I think a high metal rack on the wall next to the shower in black for the towel's (I don't like them under the cabinet where there are plumbing pipes in the dark) use the basket in the cupboard for hair dryer, iron & cleaner's. It may be a good idea down the track to swop out the silver shower screen for a framless glass one to open up the bathroom and I alway's prefer tiles behind the toilet up to hip height for easy cleaning. Also think about item's like tables and shelf's that can fold down when not needed and furnitiure on wheel's as these can be moved to other rooms by the guest if they feel the need for a seperate table next to their chair in the lounge. Lastly a stick vacum in the wardrobe would be handy, one that recharges on a wall unit. Did you have an electrical/manual's draw for the operation of heater, TV, Stove Microwave etc and some spare usb phone lead's for Apple and Andriod phone's, this is a must in this technical day and age. Don't forget your fresh fruit bowl and some chocolate's for guests arrival...Great job, looking forward to seeing you do more like this.Thankyou:)
Adding a nice pack of 20 hangers in the closet and one of those shampoo conditioner and body wash dispensers in the shower is a really easy "superhost" touch in an Airbnb, as well as a good amount of those little shelf stable half and half's. Those are my favorite things to see in Airbnb's I stay in. I agree with the other commenter about the fridge swap for a much smaller one and the coffee bar up top too!

I love the apartment, looks wonderful! I am always looking for storage in an Airbnb. I don’t want to live out of a suitcase, especially in a case like this past summer when we rented an apartment up on the coast of Washington for two weeks. Hangers, a hanging shelf unit in the closet, or even a small plastic set of drawers in the closet would make this place perfect and functional for any stay.

Some things I would add that made my experience at an AirBnB so special were they had puzzles and games to play there. Any other thing was they had all different smells and types of soap. Love how everything turned out. Hope this helps!!
Absolutely beautiful! Can't believe all the room you created. I would make sure I had a wine bottle opener (maybe I missed it), 2 wine glasses. Those little creamers in the plastic containers (they last forever), sugar packets, salt and pepper, those little butter packets. Some information, even a coffee table book, on the town and stuff to do. A guest book for people to sign.

What a cute little Airbnb! 😍 I've stayed at a few Airbnb's with my family, but we are a family of 5 so we stay at houses lol. I don't know if you put an iron and ironing board in the closet, but that would be a nice thing to include. Maybe even a pack n play for babies, that could easily fit in the closet as well. For the fridge, include your basic condiment packets, and a filtered water pitcher. Also, if she can get some to-go menus from local restaurants, that might be helpful, or even local attractions for places to visit. Include written instructions for the TV as well, because some people aren't techy. Lol

Absolutely fantastic. As for extras, and hopefully I just didn't miss it if you did it already, I love when basic cleaning supplies are on hand. That way I can at least wipe things down and touch up the floors. Also an iron w/board and hair dryer. You all did an amazing job 🥰

Looks really nice! A cutting board leaned against the backsplash is a nice touch to be functional and help warm the space with natural elements and tie in with the floor. When I stay at an Airbnb I prefer not to have fake plants as they really are dust collectors. Hand towels and washcloths are nice to have as well. Also it’s nice to have a French press and regular coffee, especially for us who need to be caffeinated in the mornings. You created such a welcoming space! Lovely!

You really hit it out of the park on this one - making the most of everything you had to work with!!!! I've stayed at a few Airbnb's and would love to stay in something as sweet as this. As for what I like when staying some place - plenty of towels (for all needs) and extra pillowcases are high on my desire list, plus basic travel toiletries, cleaning supplies, disposable gloves, a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher. Other great items are a binder of local tourist sites, places to eat (include TO GO menus), supermarket, pharmacy & eye doctor, plus local listings for emergency and non-emergency contacts (if allowing pets include a vet as well), including the host's info. Games are a nice touch for those rainy days (I saw you had SORRY). I'd also include SCRABBLE, checkers, a deck of cards, pencils, pens, scissors, a ream of printer paper, crayons & coloring books (most of which can be found at any Dollar Store). If trash removal is guest responsibility - where/when? Last but not least, a guest book folks can sign for your Mom to have as a reference and keepsake. I hope it's a smashing success and "SUPER HOST" level is achieved ASAP!! I just know your Dad is smiling down seeing how all of you are thriving, while maintaining that family connection. I guess may be some place mats to protect the island and heat pads too. Some cloth hangers in the closet, hair dryer, places to see recommendations in the area may be. Really lovely seeing your family come together for such a lovely project ❤

I painted my stock “fruitwood” kitchen cabinets back in the 70s. I used oil-based paint that is no longer available, in eggshell finish and just a brush. It worked so well that I painted the doors, baseboards and the cabinets, etc. in the big utility room next to the kitchen.

It is so amazing how you envisioned a complete floor plan like you did. You have a true gift! I love staying in an Airbnb - much rather than a hotel any day! It's become quite common for your units to have a keyless entry...such as a digit code entry lock. This way the host will text you the code the day of your arrival. Also make sure to have a list of all rules and expectations clearly written out either online or printed out in the unit. It's very helpful to have a laminated sheet of tv instructions, especially if you have a smart tv. Also make sure to provide trash bags and have a designated trash disposal near the entry of the unit, with instructions. It's always nice to have a trial size shampoo, soap bar, etc. on the bathroom vanity. Thanks for sharing the beautiful transformation along with some beautiful family bonding time. Priceless ❤️
Wow! Great job! I definitely agree that you made the right choice by painting the existing pieces in the bathroom so you had enough money in your budget for the new faucets. Totally worth it! You have got to be THE most patient person, doing THREE full days of painting! How did you not lose your mind? Well, it was worth it for that beautiful outcome! 🎉🎉🎉
Some books for guests to read, toys if they bring kids, board games, puzzles, a pack n play that you can keep in the closet for some who May rent with a little kid, a folding kid bath tub since you have a shower.

My recommendations: when cleaning, if possible top off dish soaps, hand soaps, shampoos/conditioner bottles so they don't have such an already "used" feel. Some may not care at all. But some do. It's an extra touch. Reliable wifi and streaming on TV for sure. I stayed in a Montana Air BB and couldn't watch the roku TV for 2 days. Coffee creamer and sugar, flavored creamer is a bonus. But not only just black coffee. Had that happen, huge bummer. Cocoa for non coffee drinkers or kids is very nice too. A small snack basket with granola bars or instant oatmeal bowls. Nothing expensive. But a little treat for in the morning is lovely. Good luck.

I feel the most welcome with a personal note for our stay. Information on local things to do, upcoming community events, and if allowed, fur baby treat or toy. Prevents chewing on your furniture and makes them feel welcome and destress from the new environment

Coffee, coffee, coffee and coffee maker...a must at an AirBnB. We stayed at one in BC this summer. They provided a basic breakfast - loaf of bread, butter, jam, eggs and maple syrup. There was also some fruit in a bowl on the table. Super Host 😊
I love it! I wish we could do something like this to our apartment but we aren’t able to paint or change any fixtures so I’m trying to get creative but not spend a ton. I like when Airbnb’s have games and cards to play.

An Airbnb we stayed at in Alabama had a pantry stocked with some simple groceries. Flour, sugar, oil, seasonings, etc. We were there a week and ordered groceries they Instacart to be delivered. It was so nice not having to buy those things. Also, if it’s going to be pet friendly, food and water bowls to use while there is super handy for pet owners!
Amanda, It looks amazing! Your family got to be together and that’s awesome! One thing we can never find is a tv channel guide. Even the last hotel didn’t have one and it was so awful not knowing the local channels. I like a guest book also. Your Mom will not have any problems renting this and being a Super Host!

My dad passed beginning this year. It is a sudden and unexpected passing. I wasn’t able to go back to the Phils for 4 yrs due to pandemic and all our plans were put to stop because of it. He never met my son which make me feel so broken and guilty.He always wish to see my kids and spend some time with them but the pandemic stopped it all.
I hope you and your whole family heal with your dad passing.

This looks amazing! A large part of being a superhost is communication with the guests. How quickly do you respond to reservation inquiries, guest problems/questions? That goes a long way!
Amanda, you and your family pulled it together beautifully. You maximized the space and the accents, the paint, the black hardware transformed it from a dated space into an upgrade. I love it. Painting the kitchen cabinets was one of my suggestion on your sneak peek vlog. I need to try beyond paint in my kitchen makeover. It looks great. The blue surprised me but it looks gorgeous. Good call to paint the additnal ceiling slant. What I would add if you haven't already is: a dual charger for Apple and Android devices, a blow dryer, a steamer or iron, coasters to avoid scuffs and water stains. Also to welcome each guest, you can add a welcome sign on the table with 2x bottles of water, a couple of generic snacks and a list of activities, sites to see, a restaurant list, etc. The gesture would go a long way. Your Dad would be proud. Good luck to Mom in her new business. 🙌🏽🏡😁

No lamp beside the couch for reading or just low lighting at night. A small sconce lamp on the wall could work nicely. Or, a pendant lamp would look pretty. A tray table that can slide over the couch would be nice for a place to put a drink or laptop. Great job!! ❤
It's lovely❤. What I like in a BnB or Airbnb is not only the decor and warmth (nothing worse than being too cold) but all the attention to detail. So having some coffee/tea sugar and milk in the fridge. Coat hooks and somewhere to put shoes as you walk in. Plenty of hangers and drawer space and if there are no drawers then have under-bed storage on wheels. A TV that's a decent size or a radio in the kitchen. Books or magazines and a card game or puzzle. Good luck x
I wanted to tear up every time you talked about your dad. Al be praying for you and your family for peace and healing during these times when it still hurts when you think about your dad. And encouragement in knowing you will see him again in a place where you won’t worry about pain or any earthly thing.

Use primer with darker paint colors, and paint with a dark gray primer first. It will make the dark colors more authentic.
I would definitely paint the pink countertops gray to play off the marble island. I one thing I remember about a Bed and Breakfast I stayed in was a journal beside the bed everyone would leave a page about their stay and a little about them. The airbnb I loved that they had cleaning supplies lol silly I know but not all places leave them. With 5 kids I had clean take out trash and do laundry the pods where a life saver.
Fantastic transformation! I see a few messages about the guestbook which is really important as well as a copy in the listing. As a Superhost, I've had really great feedback on: A letterboard or chalkboard with a personalized welcome message for each guest using their name, a hairdryer, decanted shampoo, conditioner and body wash, towel hooks in bathroom, hooks in bedroom, an extra warm blanket in bedroom closet, an iron and board, hangers in closet, a colander, pizza cutter, salt n pepper, olive oil, wine n bottle opener, knives, individual creamers, a few extra trashbags (not the entire roll), foil, a baking sheet, an umbrella, hook near the door, night lights in the bathroom and bedroom, extra toothbrushes. Lastly, I'd consider a blow up mattress with extra bedding and pillows as well as indicating a max to number of guests and providing a set of towels for that max number. Good luck to your mom who can most certainly achieve Superhost! It's mostly good communication. I provided a confirmation message upon booking , an anticipation of your stay the day before message 2 hours before with entry instructions, and a hope you're settling in ok message after an hour giving them my contact info again. This eliminates bad feedback and issues later that could have been fixable if they simply contacted you. It's fun hosting! Reach out if you need any help at all getting started!

My only tip is to use the paper covered coffee stirrers for sanitary reasons, and don't put so many of them out. When I go to an AirBnB, the most special thing I like is for there to be all of the essentials available and for it to feel as much like a hotel as can be while at the same time, feeling like you are visiting family. Clean and smelling nice are the most important.

Leave more room for the guests to put their stuff. Like under the bathroom sink -- it's all filled up. Where are the guests going to put THEIR stuff? Also, re: cleanliness, I recommend individually wrapped and single-use items: coffee pods, not a big container of Folgers; keep TP wrapped (and only provide enough for their length of stay, plus 1 extra). Wi-Fi, suitcase stand, list of nearby shops/activities/laundry/churches.
You all worked so well together, and did a beautiful make-over! The kitchen cabinets made one of the biggest differences! Wow!

Hi, One thing I really liked when I stayed away was a starter basket that had been included. It had things like bread, milk, eggs etc (the necessities). It saved me from having to go out shopping straight away as I arrived late in the evening.

WOW! It wasn't a bad space at the beginning. But the small little touches made a difference. I'd love to stay there! Only thing I think I'd have put or tried to put was a small side table with a small lamp on it for the living room or one of those free-standing lamps that arches as I wouldn't want to turn on the overhead lights all the time but keep it sort of dimly lit. You all did an excellent job. I wish your mom a lot of luck and all of her guests are happy with their little retreat. Maybe a set of sheets & extra blankets in the closet and a rug on the bedroom floor /bathroom floor but you thought of everything.
Your husband is a keeper! He made me laugh so hard. I also love all the things you did. I would love to rent it, but I lived in Chicago for 33 years so no more cold for me. Great job!!!
Oh my gosh, what a transformation. You and your family did amazing work. I LOVE the island in the kitchen and the dark blue focal wall which disguises the TV and adds interest.
The only thing I would have done is to paint the back side of the kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors and the insides of the cabinets. That way it lightens up the darkness of the cabinet spaces so it's a bit easier to see what is in the cabinets and just looks a bit more high end.
Great job and you're an angel to do all of that work for your mama and be by her side during her surgery and your dad's birthday which is such an emotional time.

I would suggest having a little notepad or book for guests to be able to write suggestions on what else would be nice to have. Also, I’d suggest making a “manual” of sorts by taking pictures of the rooms and how they are set up and the supplies/way/where you put supplies like the cocoa & tea, toilet paper, etc. and put them in a photo album so whoever is restocking the apartment knows exactly what to put in there and where it needs to go, or what might have “walked away” with a guest.
Can’t pick favourites of anything so I love it all! The little trinkets were cute. The swinging picture frame was lovely and something I’ve never seen before. So great job!
What I would ❤to see in an AIR BNB would be a Welcome Card/Sign with a Small Welcome Goodie Basket and a Password for WiFi ( is annoying when you have to contact someone in the middle of night for it when arriving) also necessary condiments in Fridge extra blanket and oh yes a List with Restaurants and Activities ( sightseeing) would be so awesome ( no one so far has done it that I know off) 😢.. You all done an awesome amazing Job and I personally know you had to be tired .. that was a lot and so great for you all to do this project for your Mom.. 😊
Wow! Loved this transformation. I’ve stayed at a few AirBnBs and I like WiFi information displayed prominently. Some people like a guest book, but what can set that apart is to share “your” story in the front of the book. It personalizes the stay and allows people to know who owns the lovely AirBnB. As a traveller only thing I see would be just a cheap Walmart hairdryer in bathroom, also nice for women, is black small towel for make up, even though we take out make up off sometimes still have some in skin, black towel will save your moms white towels. Great Job.
Turned out amazing!! Anyone would love to stay there! 🥰 I look for cleanliness and no bugs the most. I've been in a few places that I had to clean when I arrived because it was that bad. Also, having the place sprayed or spraying it often with Home Defense. No one wants to see spiders and crawling guests when they are relaxing. Haha. A decently stocked kitchen is also a must since some people like to cook to save money when on vacation.
This video has given me so many ideas about our home. Our home was from the 80s so back then I guess they didn't need a lot of storage space. So I am trying to learn how to be creative with our space. Thank you for the ideas.

Move the bathroom door out of the kitchen and make the entrance right in the bedroom, looks like you have room to do this. 2. On the desk drill holes for the cords to plug in to the outlet. I wish your Mother the best of luck with it.
Earning a Super Host statis has more to do with cleanliness, quick responses, etc. than the initial appeal (although that certainly helps!) Best wishes to your mom, and congrats on a lovely job well done!
