Fun trivia note: I went to Space Camp when I was a kid & learned that underneath all of the gray dust there is orange soil on The Moon, but because it lacks an atmosphere nothing can grow on it. This was discovered during the Apollo 17 mission in December 1972, which was the last manned mission to The Moon. I also learned that the hardest part about making the moon rover vehicles was assembling the chairs due to their weight. The guys designing the vehicles were on a break sitting in lawn chairs when 1 of them basically said "Let's just slap 2 lawn chairs on the vehicle," & it worked since that's what they used on the vehicles for the next few Moon missions.
If you ever have a friend who feels bad because of the amount of times they've crashed their rockets in Kerbal Space Program, just show them the first half of this video.
… or the second half. ;-)
Tell them there's no Wikipedia mention of many of them.
RIP JEB🎻... Your devotion was exemplary. I got it right in the fifth iteration ✌️
Rip jebidiah 😢
Hullo fellow kerbonauts!
I loved the small astronauts giving a stroll in 2 seconds before getting back to the lunar module, lol

I didn't know
Oh okay
A fascinating bit of information I'm going to take home with me. Thanks
Gosh how enlightened I am now. Bless you
Sometimes the most uncomplicated designs are also the most versatile
I love the use of the actual crew audio from the Apollo missions. Such a cool detail!
Apollo 11: That's one small step for man,one giant leap for mankind
A brilliant illustration of how exceedingly hard space exploration is. I'd love to see one for Mars or any of the other planets.
There's a very good reason why only a few nations have done it.
It is even worse. You can google it easily enough. "success and fail-rate of mars missions" ought to give you an accurate top result.
I know of no country other than America that's even tried to send anything to Mars.
@@Daviticus042This is something you are supposed to look up before you post. It is no small feat to send something to Mars, even if the mission fails. And those who attempt it are to be recognized and honored.
Also you are commenting among people who try to know. If you are going to be... like whatever it is you are, it will lead only to problems. I am sure if you think about this for a minute you will agree.
@@Daviticus042 Russia (USSR), India, China, Japan, UAE and EU have all sent missions to Mars. It took about 10 seconds to find this information out.
It really shows just how much junk humanity has shot at the moon over the decades, as well as just how difficult it actually is to successfully land something (let alone people) on the surface considering all the failures we've had.
Yes I was struck by a similar thought. From the moon's perspective humanity just started launching stuff at it and never cleaning up after itself, then a handful of people came to check it out, but also didn't clear anything away. Then there was a break. Then they started littering again. Poor moon.🌝
That junk is insignificant compared to the junk the same missions left behind on earth...
LITTERING
@@rubypotato87 Nothing compared to all the space rocks impacting it all the time honestly
Most of that junk is spread so far from one another you wouldn't even notice
Moon landing conspirators be like:
"That's no moon."
Moon landing conspirators : Those are international space studios!
That would be a really well-planned conspiracy: "Let's launch a couple dozen fake failures, so when we finally do a fake success, people will assume it must be real, because a fake program wouldn't have had failures."
Next-level chessmaster thinking right there! 😁
Bruh we got to get a flat earther moon landing denier and put them on the fucking moon just to be like “do you fucking see this”
can you do next?-> All missions to Mars including failure missions
and other places in the solar system
This really shows just how hard space travel is. There are so many failures and crash landings.
I gotta admit I had low expectations of this video when I saw the title. I was pleasantly surprised. Never realized all the failed missions everyone had early on. Also was surprised Luxembourg had a mission to the moon. Another fantastic video by you guys. Thanks!
Idea: Fictional cities/countries/nations size comparison
Like the dark matter empire of kirby univers
Imperial Hive city from Warhammer
Ooo, I like that
Some I can already think of:
Aldastan (C&C Generals)
Medici (Just Cause 3)
Albion (Fable)
Man, things really picked back up in the last year with space mission involving the moon. I wonder if you'll do one for Mars if there isn't a vid already
You're welcome to search for it.
There's just something about your videos that always fascinates me, and actually makes it worth watching 😊 much love from New Zealand 🇳🇿
the music ! check TIME, and the other one about ocean's deepth
Metaballstudio never disappoints!!!,
Your'e easily pleased aren't you?
Man, we leave our trash everywhere :) Thanks for using my music
Kevin MacLeod?!?
As someone who has loved space stuff and the spirit of exploration my whole life this video almost made me cry from the emotion. Many thousands of engineers and technicians from around the world put so much effort into these projects and it's fantastic to see so many new countries sending missions now.
It does look kinda crazy how much it's been ramping up. Why only starting in 2022 do we see numerous missions from many countries/teams I wonder? Seems like there were quite a few long dry spells until then!
In ancient times, deserts were explored looking for riches, which did not exist, and there was no interest in them again... Until the use of oil was discovered.
The same is happening with the moon and tritium. There was no need to go back there, until now.
You are probably thinking of helium-3 rather than tritium. Tritium is used in current fusion reactor tests. One day helium-3 may be used in fusion reactors, but that's a long, long way off.
Bonus trivia: The flag posted by Apollo 11 was knocked over by the blast to get the lunar lander back into space. Everytime they show that flag standing in movies, is wrong.
They planted other ones
Outstanding video! The Apollo mission miniature astronauts & rovers were * chef's kiss * perfect! And those thud sound effects for failures were pretty amusing.
Very well done, thanks for the effort you put into these.
I shouldn't laugh when the landers crash, but the effect is hilarious.
The topic, the music, and all the failed spacecraft landings gives off major KSP vibes hahah
No way💀
I appreciate how much work went into this. Thanks, as always ive discovered something i didn't know before. You have a way of doing that, sir 😁👍
Álvaro cada vídeo es impresionante...

Makes me feel a lot better about how bad I am at Kerbel Space Program.
Bro i've always loved your comparison videos and i love your channel keep up the good work man this channel is so nostolgic and you've inspired me to start studying about space its been a blast watching your banger videos man.
Looks like it's time for a couple updates!
Love this. Have shared it with friends.
The sound effect for the failed missions makes the 12-year-old in me happy.
That was awesome MBS. I love your stuff. 😎
I had no idea that there were so many (mostly failed) moon missions before the Apollo program. It makes sense, it just never occurred to me. Also, the little astronauts roaming around and then quickly launching from the surface of the moon just made me laugh every time!
Felicidades !!!
Excelente contenido 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Loved the video. For me personally that was your most interesting work yet
You would think after 25 attempts the Luna program would stop having issues. Oh well.
That's what happens when you send your best engineers to the gulag because of politically-incorrect remarks. Too bad the US has seemingly forgotten that lesson.
I had no idea how many missions and countries have been involved in Moon exploration! This is a FABULOUS exposé, as always, Alvaro! I LOVE your sound effects, too! As the failed missions and lunar landers were piling up on the surface, I just couldn't stop laughing - I was thinking of all the poor ETs who live on the back side of the Moon, exclaiming "What the...! What are those kids doing NOW!", while seeing all this messy human space-junk coming down. Apparently we have been chastised for leaving our junk (and astronaut poop!) on the Moon! One of the reasons we haven't been sending people up for quite some time!!
I love your videos, cheers from Brazil! 😁
Great video. There are moon missions from countries I didn't even know have space programs.
Beautifully done!
A remarkable video. Thank you so much. ^^
Que buen trabajo, me encantan tus videos!
I like how Apollo 11 mission is the first manned and popular mission(my fav mission) also launched in 1969 with Neil Armstrong 5:13”that’s one small step for man. One giant leap for mankind” here’s all the Apollo missions. 4:41 Apollo 8 4:57 Apollo 10 pinned Apollo 11 already 5:34 Apollo 12 5:44 Apollo 13 down bc no oxygen module but I still pinned it 6:04 Apollo 14 6:11 Apollo 15 6:31 Apollo 16 6:43 Apollo 17 all the apollo missions!
I loved so much the animations in this video. Especially the little astronauts ^^
Cool. I was just in Houston and yesterday visited the space center. Got to see a real full length Saturn V rocket. That was on my bucket list.
I especially liked hearing the audio from the Apollo missions. It was pretty cool to hear that, especially the famous 'Okay, Houston, I believe we've had a problem here' line from Jack Swigert of Apollo 13.
Brilliant. It is a great way to show how hard it is to get to the moon and land
This was fascinating, but I couldn't help but think that the moon is now a mess. 😁
I don't know why, but I just LOVE the failure sound you've used for this video. XD
Great video!
In 1979 there was a TV show Salvage One with Andy Griffith. He built a spaceship to salvage space junk from space and the moon. I think he was really onto something. Just imagine if he’d waited till now how much money he’d make with what’s up there now, particularly with what scrap metal is worth now.🇦🇺
The funny thing about that show was that his single-stage moon-landing-and-return vessel would have been worth hundreds of times more than any salvage he could possibly bring back.
@@stevenscott2136 Yes. The only reason we use giant rockets is because it takes two thousand tonnes of fuel in order to get just fifty tonnes of payload to the Moon. In real life his rocket would have to be nuclear powered in order to make it to the Moon and back with a single stage.
Спасибо! Отличное видео! Познавательно.
Another banger of a video
The lesson here: never stop trying. Even if it costs you millions!
Very well done! Would have been cool to have Apollo 12 land next to Surveyor 3
Two thoughts:
1: Too bad they're not to scale, I assume there's a good reason
2: When the "paired" satellites went by (e.g. Stereo), gave me major Tie Fighter vibes.
Probably many of them would be invisibly small against that lunar landscape, so he made them all big enough to see.
I always like your videos. Not just all the information, but the level of detail. Using the audio of the Apollo 13 was amazing.
But I start feeling dizziness with the shot of the moon, plus the crashes and the music, so I couldn’t finish the video.
For the Mars video, please use a pathway.
You made great video 😊😊
I love your videos so much... bro
Fantástico siempre!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😉
nice, thanks
Man, we are so lucky there is a complete record of every moon mission! And even luckier that all the unsuccessful attempts were unmanned.
Unintentionally the funniest video MetalBall has created. There should be a fine for the absolute ton of junk we have left on the Moon!
Cool video. That's why landing on the moon is really hard.
Because they are running out of parking space?

Excellent!
This is fascinating to watch now, in 100 years this will probably be an important historical resource.
YOOHOOOHO so goood it would be cool to see Mars missions!!
I had NO IDEA how many failed attempts there were. Sobering realization. Now to rewatch and descend into wikipedia oblivion looking at what happened to some of them.
I can't wait to see my favorite mission to the moon!
Really cool that there is a renewed interest for going back to the moon.
It's not just the Artemis program, there's china and India.
It's about time we went back to the moon.
idea: all of the statalites that were launched from sputnik to the present. also show active ones and ones that died out or burned up by earth’s atmosphere.
This is the only size comparison, CZcamsr that I know that uploads in 2023
Omfg I love the little Apollo 11 guys and the lift off....!!!
It’s a new metaball studios CZcams video whooooooooooo
MetaBall and RedSide uploaded on the same day, my life is completed.
Excellent idea for a video, would like to see you do the same for Mars etc. Can I suggest yellow might be better than different shade of green for 'partial failure'?
It was interesting, and I watched all the way through. But I must admit I thought it was a shame that the spacecraft were not to scale. The whole concept of this channel is "Things to scale," after all!
Good job
Idea: All successful and failed missions to Mars. I’m sure it would be fairly short, but maybe an interesting video. Perhaps a few typed descriptions about each mission.
I hope you revisit this annually because the next couple of years are gonna be lit!
Wow so awesome these spacecraft landed on the same spots!!!
its true but its "not to scale" these spacecraft actually landed far far but it looks close because its not to scale😊
Bravo!!!
I guess that in the future will be a museum on the moon of these rockets that still in there
Man, like a full half of the shots we’ve taken at the moon failed.
That thumbnail looks so awesome
Considering the technology they had to work with in the 50s and 60s, that early failure rate isn’t as bad as it looks- just getting close to the Moon at all was an achievement.
Could you do another ocean-related video soon?
I love ocean-related videos by MBS!
An " All missions to Mars" video would be great.
How hard were first steps to the Moon! Every time with each new mission to space I wish, that it will be successful, one day we will build first lunar colony and we will build it together, like ISS.
Warm hugs from Russia, congratulations to Indian Chandrayan 2
Make science not war
❤
Is Russia planning Luna 26 now?
@@user-mx4qo6pq1m Luna mission is planned right now to Luna 29 station, Lina 25 was like a scout, her data will be used to make future missions much safer, about a month ago I got good news, Luna 25 will be rebuilt and launched in near future.
I work in company, who works with Roskosmos sometimes, last winter I was on cosmodrome and watched launch of the rocket, truly magnificent thing, it's so huge and so much powerful!
Mistakes:
1. Luna 25 crashed before candrayaan 3, Not after candrayaan 3.
Wrong, Luna 25 crashed on the moon, didnt land. India's chandrayaan-3 became the first and only spacecraft to land on south pole and operate rover on south pole. India is the best❤❤
It's amazing how short the gap is from just wrecking shit left and right to actually landing humans successfully.
Grandeeeee!!!
Wow, an actual realistic animation made by a animator.
Este video me recuerda muy fuerte a la peli de los increibles cuando sale la cronología de los robots de combate y los superheroes y quién gana en cada duelo.
Apollo 13 was expected to fail because it's bad luck and NASA was like, it's just a number. Yeah, but they were proven wrong.
Oh yeah, new upload and it's space related.
The Space Race is pretty terrifying. Ah yes, we've just barely mastered orbiting the moon a couple years ago and are currently about 50/50 on soft landing, so let's start sending people there!
A big part of why a lot of early unmanned probes crashed is because their pre-microchip onboard computers were just too unsophisticated to handle the demands of the task. Even the Apollo Guidance Computer on the LM was overloaded during the Apollo 11 descent--that's the source of the 1201/1202 alarms mentioned in the transcripts.
Nixon had a second speech pre-written and ready to go in the event that the astronauts of Apollo 11 died on the Moon.
I can’t here exactly what Apollo 8 was saying, but I’m pretty sure they were informing Houston of ‘a lot of spacecraft together in one place’ and it made me chuckle
거의 마지막 부분에 다누리가 보여서 매우 인상적이고 자랑스럽습니다
