I had pleasure - and growing pains - building her out of the box in 1962. Now you've got me all wistful, teary-eyed and yearning again! Thank you so much!
Build thus one again! 👍👍🙂
Nothing more greater , than a sailing ship from this era.....
Agree 100%! Merry Christmas!
Honored! Stay safe
Christmas Greetings back.....
Please do not apologize for your English. You should be proud that you speak it so well.
Built the arifix kit. Fun to build in most sections. Did a lot of research thanks to time life books of "the seafarers". Won first place w/best in show at my wife's old hometown county fair arts and crafts.
Back in the mid 60's I put this ship model together. I was10yrs old. The plastic back then was black and I used tester paints and free handed all the painting with a small brush. It didn't come out looking as great as yours did but it looked good enough for a 10yr old boy. I had that ship for yrs but it dissapeared after I got out on my own.
Nice job on ur ship! It reawakened some old memories from over 50 yrs ago. Thanks.
Thank you for sharing it! 😊
Wow, you are a fantastic model maker, your English is excellent too. I am 62 yrs old and this kit was made the year i was born, i can remember building this when i was 11 yrs old, not to your excellent standard. i built so many model kits when i was a boy and this video just fires me with enthusiasm to do it again. Thank you for a great video
Thank you! Please Stay safe and have fun! Cheers!
I was born in 1954. I remember friends of mine older brothers building these kits. I have built all kinds of kits but never theses old ships. The rigging!
Beautiful work. I think I built this same kit when I was a kid, 45 years ago. Mine didn't look anything like yours however, but I was still pretty proud of it. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
There's no need to ever apologize for your videos or language. She's astoundingly beautiful. Bravo brother
Thank you Brother!
I like the apologies as it shows humility and respect, thank you.
Agreed: I learnt that when I qualified as a pastry chef and made a cake for a friend but which I thought was a bit wonky. He said that if I hadn´t apologized he would never have noticed my mistake.
I really have no interest in early sailing ships...but I began watching your video and I could not stop. You, my friend, are a master modeler. The detail of your patient work is outstanding. This was so well documented and presented. I cannot praise you enough for this creation. Simply a beautiful work of modeling art. You are to be commended!
I feel humble dead ng this comment! Thank you. Honored
Oi, Alex! Wonderful and very inspirational work. I have this kit since 1973... I was just a child, starting at the hobby, and a friend of my father's helped me with painting and assembling the hull. I did the rigging the best way I could at the time. The kit's ratlines were of a flexible material, a lot more realistic than the hard plastic ones of the later editions, but very hard to install, specially for a 10 years old boy... The kit was proudly displayed for years in my family's living room, until the dust did a complete mess of all the rigging, and many cleaning accidents caused a little Trafalgar in the kit. Then one day I disassembled the masts, and put all the remains in a box. Lately I have looked at them, and concluded that the kit is still buildable, with a bit of scratch to redo the missing parts. It's a project for my retirement... A curious detail is that the painting, handmade using enamels, still looks very good. Abraço daqui de São Paulo!
Forte abraço! Desde 1973?

I realy love old ships and i grew up watching "Pirates of Caribbean" so I love this style of ships.
I am from Germany and am in the tenth grade at the moment so I understand what you say because my classmates are not very talented at speaking english. I realy enjoy the love you have put into this model.
I hope you liked my comment.
Im honored by your comment. If you want u can watch my previous vídeo wich was a Pirates of the caribean ship with a sra diorama... Thank you
Doing her proud. Have an old 70's Revell USS Constitution I am working my bravery and enthusiasm up for. These builds help. Built one back in the 80's, but this my ex-wife ate it. Not sure. There on a shelf then moved to new house and not anywhere to be found.
Very nice job! My dad and I built that kit together in the mid-70's when it was issued by Entex; great memories!
It's gorgeous! I'm glad you did the full build all on one video. Beautiful work!
Thank you! 👍
Ive dined out in the wardroom on her, she has a ships company of 14, and the CPO is the only sailor that stays on board her. We had an awesome tour around her, and was an honour to dine on Nelsons flagship. 👍👍
I'm really impressed with your dry brush technique. I'm practicing it now. Wonderful display of skill. Thank you
Thank you!

I built that when I was 18, I agree it was a hard slog but so worth it at the end, I enjoyed myself as well, great build!
Great work... I am especially in awe of your painting techniques... Learned a lot, thanks. That being said, one must also admire the skill of those who design the moulds for these kits.... most detailed and authentic. Hats off!!
I helped (well, watched) my dad build this very kit in 1969. I remember there being some salty language when he was doing the rigging!
A lovely build of a beautiful ship, I went aboard her years ago, and she was breath taking. To think she was ,I think, thirty plus years old at the battle in 1805, and was in the water until the end of WW2. If you've never visited, I highly recommend you do, when you get chance. Thank you for posting.
Fantastic work Alex.
Brilliant and poignant subject too.
Have visited the Victory in her dry dock, many times. Wonderful experience.
I did build the Airfix kit decades ago. Hopefully one day I would like to build the larger Hellier kit.
Best wishes to you,
Hugh.
Thanks. For you too!
WOW! what an awesome build, and gutsy move with your own rate lines, I've got the Airfix Victory in my stash, and I'm going to open the box and begin my own build... Sadly I won't be videoing it, loved watching every bit of this build, I'm going to keep coming back to this as a reference.
You're right Victory is a beautiful ship, walking inside her you get the impression of being inside, surrounded and immersed in history, very inspiring, you must go to Portsmouth and see this Historic ship for yourself. Excellent modelling.
Phenomenal skills and great job👍
Friends Father scratch built the HMS Victory in 1975-76 from plans. Ship was sitting on dining room table. 72”x18”x15”, masts exceeded the ceiling height. He cast all cannons himself as well as hand nailed all the hull plating in very thin copper. Every deck detailed with cannons , ropes , gear, it had to have ended up in some museum. He had also completed the USS Constitution in the same scale, we played with one hull that he messed up in some way using the air fix wwII soldiers.
Memories
one of the best builds I have seen. Great job. It takes a lot of patience and time. So thanks for doing the video. I really enjoyed how you put this kit together.
Utterly fantastic! I don't build ships but I loved every painstaking second. Thank you.
ejection pins and flashing is the fun part of these classic models shows there age and classiness
I was building a 1/72nd Sopwith camel from a random company and you had to make the struts from stretched sprue but the detail on the wings were lovely no cockpit detail though just a seat and figure it was a 1956 moulding i believe
I watched this video on my lunch hour at work. This is a well one video of a well built model! Thank you for taking the time to go through all of the steps in building, painting and rigging.
I have always wanted to build on of these and now that i see just what it takes to do it right , i think i will continue to just wanting to do it . Fantastic work !
It feels intimidating to start but when you do and also are motivated for it, the building process goes really fast. I have been working on this model for 30 hours now and im about to finish the masts.
Just 8 minutes in to the video and already enjoying it, very much. Have never thought of dry brushing gold for detail. Great idea.
By the way, your english is great. No problems understanding you at all. Very very good english!!!
Thanks mate.
Getting back to the rest of the video now.
Chris from Lancaster England
Cheers and greetings from Portugal!
Hi Alex, Thank you for posting this video. Your English is indeed only slightly accented, and perfectly understandable. It is not necessary to apologize for it. Your model is terrific. It is definitely a work of art. Your patience is amazing, and it has produced an amazing model. I think that even though this is a model from the 1950's the flash on it is more probably owed to the quality of its original molds. I believe the mold itself wore out over the many times a model was molded from it, rather than the age of the model itself. The plastic over time might have been become warped, but it would not necessarily have produced all the flash you had to cope with removing. The sink marks are another problem. I believe the plastic molding industry just did not have the technology we have now & that's why those sink marks were so large & so needed. Anyway you are to be greatly congratulated for the quality of your model and the video itself. Thank you. --Tom
Great build Alex...I built this kit in 78 when I was 8 years old. It got me started with my love of building wooden sailing ships, I'm building a 1/96 scale Victory now...been 1and a half years so far. Brings back memories thanks my friend👍👍
My pleasure! :)
That is absolutely sensational! Like I said with your Sopwith Camel, you really a gifted modeler.
Nice! I've always said that even the worst kits can be saved with a little TLC and careful painting.
I realized the same model last january, my first ship kit ever. All handly painted, no spray or airbrush. 1 month of work....big satisfaction
Great build. I agree with your "less is better" painting philosophy regarding the dry brushing. I was told by a member of the Model Shipwright's Guild that several coats of very thin paint is always better and I've always found that to be true. Those vintage kits are always a labor of love and can be such a PITA.
But when it s completed its very cool!:)
Awesome piece and great build. It's a pity the stern didn't have more defined detail in it as it's actually in real life very striking and beautiful. Likewise for the Coat of arms at the bow. But love the build and good editing. Thanks for sharing.
Just imagine how long it took the person or people to make the original parts to be molded for the kit. I'd never thought of that till now.
What a very relaxing hour of entertainment. Incredible detail.
I just bought this kit and after seeing your build, I'm very excited to get mine finished!! GREAT JOB!!!!!
Incredible. This is the most magnificent ship ever created, in my humble opinion. After watching this video I feel I really need to see her in real life. What a beautiful model. Don’t know if I’ve got the patience or steady hand as Alex, but would love to build this thing someday. Thank you so much, such a joy to watch this.
Thank you! Honored!
Excelent work Alex !! Fantastic. Congratulations !!
Wow thanks for building this, I do a lot of models but never sailing vessels. It was wonderful to see another area of the hobby.
Very well done. I had built a bunch of plastic and wooden ships, such an immersion into fine detail and patience!
Your English is fine...keep up the entertaining work you do so well.
Incredible build man. I usually do 1/350 Modern Warships, but my sister (and sort of myself as well now) simply loves these old Ships of the line. It's a bit daunting, but I want to build some of these old ship kits for her to have, but I think I'll start on something more simple first (like the USS Constitution) before tackling the Amazing HMS Victory. But when I do, I'll be sure to use your video as a help guide all the way!!!!
Alex I love watching you work and love listening to your narrative, as far as your videos being to long ..never. You put a lot work and detail in your models that if they were short videos it wouldn't justify your work. Thank you for shoqing us all.
Thank you very much! Honored
I'll keep saying it over and over, your a true artist. Your work is fantastic. I've learned so much by watching you.
Thank you! Honored and humble.
Very inspiring, Alex....I have several sailing warship kits I really want to build....you made it look manageable :)
Same as this. My wife bought me a beautiful Victory and Wasa kit years ago but I've never had the courage to tackle them.
This is just magnificent! An absolutely stunning display. The rigging turned out so well, as did everything really. Great job!!
Thank you
Your modelling skills is 1st class and it does not matter that the kit is 64 years old, you have turned it into such a nice kit. I really like your painting and the ratlines construction. Thanks very much for sharing your skills with us. 😊😊😊👏👏👏
Thank you so much for the tips and tricks....and the excellence in modeling.
I felt a fraud, but won a school modelling competition in 1972 having built the Airfix Victory. Got to admit it was way ahead of the Fairy liquid rocket competition! Only problem it's a huge dust trap unless you can store it under glass.
Its on a glass covered shelf this one... Cheers
I built my Airfix victory at the same time with my dad, pleased with it but nothing like this. Didn't have time for the dust to build up as our cat knocked it off the shelf and broke it into pieces!
You did a beautiful job! Great attention to detail and meticulous craftwork. Kudos!
(And your English is fine - very easy to understand. 'No need to apologize.)
Thank you for this! After visiting The Victory in 2019, I regretted not getting a model when I was there, and so this went on my Christmas list, and hopefully will eat up my January doldrums. I haven't done a model in ugh, has to be almost 30 years, so the warning about the frustration level being worth it is very helpful. I'll know it's not just me being out of practice. I particularly love your dry brushing technique, and will be using it for sure.
Outstanding build; thank you for posting. The rigging came out wonderfully!
Imagine being on the ship and having to maintain all those ropes. 😱
Wow....that's an excellent build, your a great modeller and an inspiration to us all.....stay well and happy dude.....😁👍
First off, it's a little late, but thank you for the video. Second, I bought a Victory kit about 7 years ago and barely even opened it. I think you just inspired me to open it up and get to work. Huge fan of this time period. I don't know what took me so long (life, perhaps), but I think I am ready!
Thanks, again!
Another beautiful build. Love the cannons on the deck.
BTW, your English is very good. No need to ever apologize for it. So is your craftsmanship. Well done.
Thanks!
I loved your video and your great work. My only nitpick is the string used for the sails is too large in diameter compared to the things around it like the railings and other human-use items. If it was measured against the other things it would be almost two inches in diameter.
Jako ljepo odrađeno majstorski . Ljepi pozdrav iz hr. Uživao sam gledajući tvoj video u potpunosti hvala na savjetima jer se i ja spremam gradti istu maketu
Never apologize for a job done well. You did an excellent job. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Thanks for posting this Alex, I'm just about to embark on the same kit so it's very useful to get a preview of the challenges and rewards that lie ahead. I've already cast an eye over all of the flash, ejector pin marks and shrinkage holes. I hope I can make as good a job of it as you have and get the same satisfaction at the end of the build... having made many 'old classics' over the years I also accept that the same frustrations are inevitable. Great idea to pick out details with colored pencils, I'll definitely use that!
That's a beauty, I could stare at that for hours. 👍🏻
Well done you for building what seemed a difficult subject and persevering with a model that some of us would have given up and thrown it into the 'never to be completed' corner. Amazing rope work, sails, assembly and painting plus a commentary (as per usual) to boot!! You are a true artist and inspire always with your builds.....keep on keeping on, Alex.....THANK YOU!
Thank you Robert.😀
I live near The Victory. Beautiful work.
Me before watching the video: I'll never be able to build intricate dioramas but this looks relatively straightforward. Maybe this is something I could actually build.
Me after watching the video: Hooooly crap... I'm not going anywhere near something like this.
Very impressive! The amount of detail you put in is awesome. I'll go watch your Vasa video now. As a Swede I feel I simply have to. :)
Ahahah.. cheers
Great to watch this - I live about 3 miles away from where the real thing now lies, and I haven't been to visit her in years! I should do that soon, I think.
📌Супер модель. Спасибо! 😃👍
Wonderful video. Took me ten years, stop and go to nearly complete the Imai USS Constitution (also released by Monogram). One thing I found that made life easier was to do as much rigging as I could on the masts before gluing to the deck. It saved a lot of shoulder, neck and arm aches. Your a grade A modeler. Thanks!!!
Thank you!
your english is excellent and excellent modelling.
As I was born and now live in Plymouth England I opted for the model of the Mayflower, I think about the same scale. I have never liked the plastic sails so either build them with any sails or material ones in the furled (or stowed) position. My favourite was a 1/72 Corvette from the original release by Matchbox. I replaced a lot of the railing etc with solid copper from house hold electrical wire (1 mm).
Lovely job built one in the 60s Love the old kits . George in uk Thanks 🙏👍
Brilliant video throughly enjoyed.
I attempted to build this kit in 1976 as a young man, although quite an experienced modeller aircraft 1/72 scale and also a couple of diaromas using Tamiya military vehicles and military personnel.
The Victory defeated me as it did the French LOL.
I hadn't the patience or experience or the use of an airbrush.
My friend your English is perfect and your modelling skills equal.
Good wishes and happy modelling.
Ps I brought the Tamiya FL 1200 Harley Davidson with my first month's wage at 17yrs of age of 17 in 1979 for £25. I wish as I have priced recently a sealed kit of the same as its around £400 in 2023. Got to get back into the hobby.
Alex you smashed this old kit great work looks magnificent well done
Hello Mick! Thanks. Victory is a lovely ship and deserved at least a decent work on it!
🇬🇧 The National Great Britain thanks you🇬🇧
Beautifully done video and very nice model work. My old large Revell Cutty Sark model has suffered many accidents and needs considerable refurbishment. Always wished I had a large display case to protect my model from household accidents. I learned a lot about sailing ships from books while trying to understand standing and running rigging details. Thanks for the entertaining video.
Great model! Hope you get to see the original in Portsmouth dockyard some day. Such a historic ship!
Молодец, здорово получилось.)
Outstanding work Alex
Thank you! 🙂🙂👍
Nice Build! Built this one as a kid. Might try it again. Thanks.
Absolutely the best build I have ever seen for the Victory. You did her proud!
Honored
I live in Portsmouth where I live next to the Real Ship.
Hello from Sunny Selsey...wave :)
must be a wonderful view
I was on a real ship for 5 years So 😛
Any relation to Karen?
I was on the ship last year and for some reason my memory is telling me the ship he built is different. Can you confirm this or am I just nuts???
you did such a good job
Thank you!
Museum piece! This kit is very lucky to be built by you. For this kit, I’m sure that it worths waiting 60 years to be built!
Honored ! Thank you
@@AlexModeling You're so strong-willed, I bet you can survive anywhere on this earth!
Amazing build. Tried this kit as a teenager and made a mess of it, inspired me to go back and give it another go
Go for it! Thank you for your comment!
beautiful work. For the ropes there is a tool coming often with the kit that helps you a lot of making them....like knitting
ONLY the Heller ones... Got that tool after this One... Had a lot of work. With that tool os easier!
@@AlexModeling you have right! I built the rops of Amphitrite a heller kit of a German sailboat.
Hey your models are always beautiful and I love watching your videos.Could you make the warship RHS Georgios Averof the Greek battleship if you find it?It is an amazing and historic ship!Again good job!
The detail you went to with the painting was astonishing...
Hi
Just bought the kit so going to watch video before starting, Haven't built a sailing ship since my teens ( 60 now ) so this will be fun, will be taking my time. Also went on Victory when we were on holidays in UK, fantastic experience. Cheers
The ropes are way too thick imo, still this is a very well made and beautiful model!
I have this kit at home. Still in the box. I love the ship. But the Revell kit is one of the worst I ever had the misfortune to assemble. This will be my 4th time doing it. Previous ships were given to various neighbor kids.
Why am I craving tea and crumpets now ? 🤦♀️
.. but seriously , very nice work
mega thumbs up
😂😂👍👍👍💪💪💪 stay safe!
HEY job well done......thanks for sharing

Fabulous Alex. Nelson and the Victory have been my one real obsession all my life. So stepping on board this wonderful ship brought a lump to my throat, so did this build. Fantastic work, thank you.
Thank you! 🙂👍
Amazing attention to detail
