    This future has existed in Australian RVs for many years. The US RV industry would do all US RVers a big favor if they adopted Australian, New Zealand, and European RV construction.

      The biggest difference I think would be the weight/size. RVs are getting huge, the 2023 ford f350 has a 38k lbs towing capacity.

    • @hamiltonharper
      @hamiltonharper Před rokem +4

      Yeah one of the big things that the US industry is lacking is off grid capabilities. Most are dependant on 110v input, propane, and pressurized water intake. Give us 1kw solar, 400ah batteries, DC components, pumps for freshwater, composting or sealed bag toilets, and a mini split heat and air conditioning. Starlink internet instead of these cellular subscriptions too.

  • @PlumbRalph
    @PlumbRalph Před rokem +3

    Very cool to see how it’s built. I’m a plumber and recommend staying with the plastic pex fittings for water lines as the brass ones can split if water freezes in the lines. But more often they fail if the water has a low pH level.

    The composite floor and wall panels appear to be TransCore by Ridge, which has layers of thermoplastic polymer saturated glass fibre and closed-cell thermoplastic polymer foam. It is made of separate layers, but because the polymers are thermoplastic (which means that the melt when heated and re-harden as they cool) they are thermally fused together, instead of using adhesives. While Airstream claims that TransCore was developed for them, it is used by various travel trailer and cargo trailer manufacturers.

    Love it! I’m in the market for something like this. I’m looking very hard at Kingdom Camping LLC and their new 21’ because of their claim it’s capable of 100% off-grid ability with air conditioning. Living in S Texas, the ability to have 24/7 AC without requiring shore power or a generator is incredibly appealing to me. However, I’m looking forward to learning more about this unit. It sure seems incredibly capable and would pair really well with my ‘22 Ford F-350 Platinum Tremor.
    Looking forward to part 2!!! 👊

    I lived in the outback of Australia and I can back you up, 90-99% of caravan/trailer are mall crawlers, when you would tell these people about places to go offroad first thing they would say its to expensive to scratch 😄😄

  • @tylerfb1
    @tylerfb1 Před rokem +1

    Brass plumbing fittings are a no go! Certain water conditions cause them to corrode and fail over time. I live in Southern New Mexico, and there are lawsuits from houses that were flooded by brass PEX fittings corroding and failing in just a few years. Reminiscent of the polybutenol fiasco of the 80’s and 90’s.
    Plastic plumbing fittings are the way to go.

    I would reconsider the drop-hitch. I rock crawl. A model that is built for high clearance tow vehicles that does not have that drop would be ideal.

  • @BruceBusby
    @BruceBusby Před rokem +1

    I like to see how it's built. Don't think it's perfect but it'll do the job as well or better than the competitive units. Aluminum welding is tricky but reliable, bolting/riviting will never be as rigid. Aluminum flex cycle limit is much lower than steel. The alloy of aluminum will determine rigidity vs compliance vs brittle vs suple vs weight etc.

    Very, very interesting video. I'm impressed with Palomino for the development of this new "style" of RV. I'm in my 70's now and live by myself. I have a fifth wheel which is too big as well as a truck camper which might not be right for me to use anymore due to medical issues. I love to take my Jeep Wrangler off road so the truck camper has worked well for transporting the Jeep and providing a great place to sleep. I suspect more people will be willing to buy a unit like this since it has the value for both short term (while the kids are still at home) and long term (after the couple become empty nesters) or after a divorce. If this concept works out, I can forsee it being developed as a fifth wheel model so a Jeep or other 4x4 could be towed behind it. Of course, this would require a very strong rear tow attachment to be incorporated into the design. I know many people only own a trailer for the time the kids remain at home, but if the design is right, the owners will keep it much longer since the value will remain. Thanks for the video; I'll be waiting to see the next episode. Makes me think, this might work as a tow unit for offroad vehicles is modified to handle the sleeping accommodations and the vehicle. Just a few thoughts to think about.

    I will be honest it has some really nice features in build quality especially for palomino which typically makes the lowest quality campers and truck campers, but the interior designs are severely lacking in my opinion. Don’t get me wrong they went all out for build quality but to me the interior is so far.

    The 1/4" inch frame extrusion wall thickness is not very impressive - it's aluminum, so it needs to be much thicker than steel for the same strength.

    Only time will tell; things like how these frames hold up to corrosion in varying climates or exposed to salt. There’s a lot of torquing, twisting that overlanding puts onto them for real world use not up over set obstacles for CZcams videoing and the occasional outing …. But that’s said the markets not for full time “overlanders” like myself in my HQ15

    The drop deck was a mistake, the minute your tow vehicles front tires go up 2 feet your dragging trailer Jack and hitch and it creates a failure point at the connections. If it were reversed then you would have something that would off-road well.

    How come they use aggressive tread tires? On a trailer that is being towed, no drive power to the wheels/axles, aggressive tread makes no difference in traction. Maybe it's just for cool looks?

    Knowing what I know about aluminum in bicycles, this is a disaster waiting to happen. Are the bolts steel? If so, they better be stainless, otherwise you will see corrosion right where you don’t want it. Aluminum will fracture especially after a force is applied over and over. Steel is better as it flexes more and is stronger. This thing looks great and I understand the low weight appeal BUT if you want bullet proof, go with a steel frame.
