Although, I don't like Karan Johar but I will alws be grateful to him for presenting Bahubali 1 n 2 in Hindi with first class dubbing. He deserves applause for that. By doing so, he helped the Hindi movie audience in exploring the good cinema other than Bollywood.
You're asking this question to filmmakers who literally owe their careers to Khans. No matter how bad the khans are slowly becoming, they depend on them, especially Shahrukh. So please invite the directors who have made it to the top without the khans and ask what they feel. So it's irrelevant what Johar or anyone who struggled in SUVs feel.
Even if the panel had directors who didn't work with the khans...they still wudnt criticize them...as they may want to work with them on future projects... ONLY Audience has the courage to criticize these ppl & call them out on their nepotism.

SRK today relies heavily on his contacts but no one can deny that he made these contacts all by himself. So audience can't call them out on nepotism. Moreover, Indians are self obsessed fools. They talk like an intellectual, sit like an expert but they discuss "Taimur's poty routine/Gauri Khan's dedication to marriage". I do not have any hope from an audience which were making sara ali khan fan club even before watching one single shot of her. 2018 was an year of exceptions with Andhadhun, Badhai ho, Stree etc but exceptions should never the examples. I would believe your statement when Salman's Ek Tha Tiger series and SRK's obsession with unhealthy romance make them go bankrupt.

Khan’s aren’t doing good movies that’s why, SRK hasn’t done a decent film since god knows when, he does try and do different roles but it’s just not working. Salman only gets roles because of his name, his acting is horrendous. His only good movie I remember of recent times is bajrangi. Aamir is the only one who does movies that are different although thugs was abysmal. They need to start looking at content

I am always saying that. one day will come and people will appreciate SRK movies and admit that he always started first all things from a long time ago and still sets those parameters. He tried and tried very hard to push the boundaries and be creative! yet some narrow-minded say he is always the same. Sadly, all the world has appreciated him but never by his own people. He did warrior movie back in 2001 (Asoka) when no one knows what it is in Hindi cinema, took the failure and dint bother and yet people see bhubali is the first attempt. People see 2.0 and not see Ra.one . People laughed and not appreciate the Vfx when he started to talk about yet appreciate other movies . Beginning something new need a courage and taking chances, some failures may occur but never stops a successful man. This man has a successful man mentality, never played safe never in his life. Started as a producer by doing movies that people appreciated today about nationalism Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (Flopped ) but if it was today it would 've been hugely successful. Pahiley was about women empowerment. Swades for god sake was flop although its hugely content movie. All these changes he took it before everyone and when you stand alone and push the boundaries and take failures in the beginning, you are the brave, not the people of today who enjoyed the road after he paves it for them. He was the first actor-producer and failed in the beginning as well. But you know, it doesn't matter what people say, he didn't stop when failed and that is a big success. I will love and adore this man all my life.
I don't know why people call Aamir a risk taker ,but the real risk taker was always srk. Darr, Baazigar, Asoka, Paheli, Swades ,fan ,zero, ra one all are risk takers role for the reason u mentioned even few more. True legend may be few years later audience will be smart enough to understand his value.

Stardom in Bollywood is the most over-hyped aspect and an Illusion. The biggest star has always been the 'Holidays' and the 'Masala' genre as we'd like to term it. Remove both the aspects from a film and you're literally left with nothing. Take away the holidays and the masalas ..these so called stars fall flat on their faces. The only fact and truth that matters.
Content along with a Star however is the Supreme combination, which has been the norm and always will be. Shall we look at the top 5 Highest grossing Bollywood movies of all time:
1. Dangal - Holiday + Content + Star
2. Sanju - Content + Star
3. P.K - Holiday + Content + Star
4. Tiger Zinda Hai - Holiday + Masala + Star + Franchise
5. Bajrangi Bhaijaan - Holiday + Content + Star
Out of 5, only 1 is a Non-Holiday and a Non-Masala Film.

The audience is maturing gradually. Now they demand substance with style and not style over substance. But the Khans and other star kids won't go away. They still have plenty of fans who will watch their movies just because of their presence. Stories don't matter to them. Which is completely fine. There is no incorrect way of loving cinemas and definitely nothing wrong with admiring someone. I mean tbh I would watch any movie of Radhika Apte or Nawaz.

This will not repeat again.Overseas market made a mistake with dilwale that year.I was a victim as I choose to watch this movie abroad so did my frnds here. We wl never do it again for any khans unless the script and content is good.

Moral of the story is - khans do not hav a blank check from the veiwers that they can sell any crap as movie.time has changed.After day 1 collection movie wil work only on its own merit.
I used to watch srk movies earlier as it was entertaining but now I don't trust his movies blindly.
The fact that they only worry about the first day collections and who ever gets the most is a "STAR" is really sad and disappointing...they are worried about the collection and whether they will retrieve that money or not...not worried about getting a QUALITY MOVIE out there...Khans have earned their place in the industry but their recent choices show that they have taken the public for granted(except AAMIR)...this is why other industries are way ahead compared to bollywood!! BADHAAI HO, ANDHADUN, STREE, SLB movies,BAAHUBALI, 2.0 etc are perfect examples of the cast and team having full confidence on their product and automatically will do great business...we have to applaud those movies whose collections increase day after day(BADHAAI HO, STREE etc) and not those whose collection decreases day after day(THUGS,and "STAR" MOVIES)

You need to understand that Bollywood also has many fans outside of India. They have so many fans from Middle East, Africa and others. There are also people in the West who watch their movies and interviews and they don't understand hindi. I see no issues with them doing the interview in English.

Karan’s December theory is correct! Maybe not every film will be a MEGA BLOCKBUSTER in late December, but it will SURELY do better than it would’ve done had it been released in any other month (not including summer).

I think it's impressive how the khans have managed to rule bollywood for 25 years, which can't be said about majorituy of bollywood actors, but now the truth is they are starting to lose touch with the audience as slowly younger actors are taking over.

while i do understand that content is important and story is first and foremost in a movie, it would be idiotic to think that there is no stardom left in the khans. Look at the opening numbers of thugs of hindostan while a bad movie it did manage to make more than 50cr on its first day that's the starpower of aamir khan...put any other actor beside shahrukh salman and aamir and they wouldn't be able to reach it, hell look at the top box office movies numbers all of them belong to khans excluding baahubali. I am not defending them or saying that they are the greatest even though i am a fan of shahrukh and aamir but to say their starpower is going out is dumb.

Even Zack Snyder's films were pretty successful, and yet it didn't take long for WB to quietly move him to the side. Why? Because, ultimately content matters. The Khans (except Aamir of course) can't keep on giving the same kind of movies over and over again and expect to remain on top. No matter how much these people delude themselves over 'overseas record collections', the fact remains that the times are rapidly changing and there is a slow but steady shift in what Indian audiences want, now that Netflix and other streaming platforms are bringing more and more top quality foreign TV shows and movies to Indian households.
You're probably right about the content part but you can't dismiss overseas collections so easily. The Indian media mostly focuses on domestic box office and sometimes likes to act like overseas markets don't exist. But ticket prices in the gulf are almost twice as high as in India, and in UK and US sometimes 2.5/3 times more, plus the Diaspora (particularly UK and Gulf) is huge. Karan was right in saying that Dilwale's overseas numbers were huge - (Wikipedia:) "The film's final overseas gross was US$30.2 million[11] (₹194 crore),[41] the highest ever for a Shah Rukh Khan film, and making it the sixth highest-grossing Indian film overseas." So it's a shame that even the stars themselves (Kajol was reportedly disappointed in the numbers) don't take overseas collections seriously. But the reality is that the overseas diaspora is really a boost to tickets. Not only the diaspora, but truly foreign audiences as well- i.e. China are giving otherwise 'okay' films a huge boost. Dangal and Secret Superstar both went to earn record-breaking numbers in China. Dangal did 540 cr. in India, but almost 1400 cr. in China alone. Secret Superstar did 90 cr. in India, 863 crore in China alone. Hichki (Rani Mukerji's film) grossed only 60 cr. in India, but did 154 cr in China alone, eventually giving it 231 cr. worldwide. So you see just how HUGE an influence overseas numbers can have? Johar wasn't wrong about that - I mean, he's a pretty successful producer, he'd know.
Another thing is, I don't think the star system will go away entirely,. Sure you can have many other smaller actors doing good content films, but I think somewhere in the Indian psyche, people really want some larger-than-life figure who lives a life they only dream of; they want that bigness displayed on screen. Who knows, maybe that will change and be molded for current/future times and it may be different than the past, but I think the motif may stay there.

I fully trust Aamir Khan to rectify his mistake.One mistake does not lead him into crisis.However Salman and Sahrukh have milked tons of money from gullible Indian audience with their always wanna be liked roles.Sahrukh can act unlike Salman however except once in a while film like My Name is Khan Swadesh Chak De his films has always been a typical Sahrukj Khan films.
The thing is, salman can act, however if you pit him against srk and amir, salman is the weakest actor, the least versatile also of the three. There's no way in hell salman could pull off the villain/ anti-hero roles that cemented srk's fame in the beginning, amir I could probably see him pulling off a villain role but he hasn't really delved into it the way srk had, that too srk had done villain roles at a time where it was a risk to play negative roles if you wanted to be seen as a hero. SRK of all three is the most versatile (well at least he had proven that in the earliest parts of his career whereas now he's become too commercially-minded). It saddens me to see srk think too much about commercial movies now. Amir's hard-work and skills cannot be belittled just because of thugs of hindustan. Salman only really impressed me in tere naam and bajrangi bhaijaan, and that's it, else I could name tons of impressive roles for srk and amir, but I could only name these two movies for salman, and I've watched tons of salman movies.

Such reverent attitude towards the '3 Khans' displayed by these 'intelligent' producers is a primary reason for the underwhelming content still being produced in large quantity each year. They still haven't accepted the power of sensible story-telling and the ability of audience at large to disregard a Khan-powered crap movie. Their constant references to Dilwale and Tiger Zinda Hai instead of Andhadhun, Soorma or Raazi is an indication that we still are far behind than Europe and slightly behind than Hollywood in cinematic sensibilities and appreciating quality content and not the star-powered disaster vehicle.

New concepts, new stories, new actors are all great. But films are a business at the end of the day. Lots of jobs depend on them. Yes, all these new actors are doing great stories but none of them are enriching this business and opening new markets to the extent the Khans did and still do. The new actors should be given credit for bringing more quality but they are not really bringing enough quantity. Atleast not consistently. Achieving something once is great but maintaining that is very very hard. The Khans, akshay etc are an exception. To a layman, their acting skills may not be at par with someone like say Om puri, nasser saab, nawaazuddin, irfan khan etc but when they are on screen you won’t be able to look at anyone else. They have that magnetism, that charm, that aura.
Stars cannot give u time , which is very important for a director.
Karan Johar is still relying on the same formula - release a big budgeted masala entertainer with a big cast and a well known director on a holiday and expect it to do a great business. Content alone can drive a movie now, it has got nothing to do with the holidays. Simba and Zero might get the biggest openings, but they won't be able to stay for a long time like Badhai-ho did. They better pull up the socks for something better else the Indian audience will surely give them a tight hit. The change has finally come and it will get better day by day.

This was going on from the last 5 decades at Hollywood (pick any Leonardo DiCaprio movie just an example on recent years) and at least 3 decades at Bollywood. Earlier due to insufficient entertainment options, people had no option other than eating up whatever junk is served in cinema halls (TV also becoming nonsensical over the years).
Now that people don't really need to step out of the house for entertainment and international content, movies have to aim higher.
Cinema halls are the life of cinema. Without cinema halls no cinema is complete.The contents shown in web series might be good but usually they are vulgur which can't be watched with everyone. In the other hand when a commercial cinema comes in cinema halls everyone including child's, adults, middle aged can go and watch the movie with their family which is actually a entertainment. Watching soft porn movies in ott platforms is not at all a entertainment.
Majority of the mass audience in our country will go out and watch movies in cinema halls with their families. Only a few section of people opts for ott platforms. Ott can never give the level of entertainment which cinema halls can give. It might sound Logicless Or brainless to some section of people but, when a hero fights hard with the villain the whole threater erupts in joy and crazyness.
