    The final issue of Snyder's Batman run hit me so hard when I first read it. Unforgettable. That's the issue that defines his Batman to me.

    I came into this worried you'd just crap on the book. I'm happy to say that you were very fair and balanced in this review. Yeah: the series is flawed. But, it has a ton of charm and passion flowing through every page. It's not my favorite JL run, but it's definitely one of the best.

    Not gonna lie, the ending of this video was absolutely beautiful. As for my thoughts on Scott Snyder's Justice League? Well, it's a heavy influence on my Avengers-Verse alongside Jonathan Hickman's Avengers/New Avengers run, which is another way of saying that I love it, I Love It, I LOVE IT!
    This is easily the best Justice League run I've read. Granted, the only ones I've read are this and Geoff Johns' run, but whereas the latter run was an introduction to the New 52 DC Universe, this felt like a lost season of the DCAU with an added manga flair. As someone who is a novice when it comes to DC lore (I'm more of a Marvel fan), all the continuity crammed into this book served to highlight the rich history of the DCU, and not once was I ever lost or confused as to what was going on in the story (I will admit that I have trouble remembering what the seven Perpetua Forces are once I'm done, but that's just my poor memory). Also, Snyder's Lex Luthor is easily the best version of the character I've read (again, not much competition since the only other one I've read is Grant Morrison's version), if only because of how different it is from the norm.
    In the end, that is what comics should strive to be; a celebration of the past that isn't afraid to do new things in the process.
    Now, having said that...SWEET JESUS, WHERE IS PERPETUA'S NECK?! Also, thank you for mentioning the Kent Family Punch from the Sixth Dimension Arc, which is actually an homage to the Father-Son Kamehameha from Dragon Ball Z. Jorge Jimenez said so himself.

      There are a lot of unresolved plot threads by the end of this book. Snyder is still doing a finale, through a dark knights metal sequel. There isn't much to be spoiled.

    Great video and I love this review/recap videos of yours. I've really liked this run of justice league and I believe it's all thanks to its campiness and balls-to-the-wall set-pieces. It isn't as good as his Batman run, true, but the style is so out there I can't do anything else but love it.
    Btw, I can't believe you hate yourself enough to read Bendi's Superman, that book is straight up torture. But hey, we all have to die of something eventually.

    I love the ambition and concepts in this book, but I think it really drowns in that ambition narratively, but the art was as epic as a Justice League book deserves. I think it really wanted to be Morrison's JLA meets the JL cartoon, which would be my ideal Justice League book. And I think it achieves that in some areas, but Snyder doesn't have Morrison's same poetry or elegance. I do still think this is the best JL book since Morrison's, but I think that's sadly a low bar.

    • @srnigromante9214
      @srnigromante9214 Před 2 lety

      Really? Better than Waid's or Kelly's JLA? Better than Johns? Than JLI? Idk, i personally would rank this run in the middle, not good nor bad just a mediocre and forgetable JL run.

      @@smashmaster521 i know and believe me i am not a fan of bendis superman in fact on my channel i've been tearing those books apart not literally with me screaming at a camera and tearing a comic in my hands no i did the smart thing and review it like i usually do with bendis superman garbage.

    • @smashmaster521
      @smashmaster521 Před 4 lety +1

      @@TevyaSmolka I'm indifferent to Bendis' Superman. Granted, the only truly bad comic I've read by Bendis was Civil War II, but I agree that Bendis was not suited to write Superman, especially both the main book and Action Comics. The only reason I'm not upset by this is because this run of Justice League and DCeased both captured everything great about Superman despite them being ensemble books, so I have alternatives.
      That is easily my go to strategy whenever I'm not satisfied with how a character is being handled in their solo book; I look for any other books where they're featured prominently like a team book or an elseworld book. I don't want to read Captain America and Black Panther while Ta-Nehisi Coates is writing them, so I turn to Avengers for my Captain America and Black Panther fix. I honestly don't know why others don't adopt this strategy if they don't like a creative direction for a character.

    • @TevyaSmolka
      @TevyaSmolka Před 4 lety

      @@smashmaster521 agreed and honestly that's not a bad strategy especially for those characters however unfortunately for my case despite Scott snyder justice league and Tom taylor Dceassed giving me the best superman and superboy Jonathan Samuel Kent superboy and Lois lane moments those are only two books which i do love don't get me wrong but personally i was hoping to read more of my favorite superman family stories under peter j tomasi and dan jurgans action comics before bendis came in and fucked everything up badly, and unfortunately i am stuck with bendis on not just superman but young justice too which is also really bad and he's writing legion of superheroes which is also a complete and utter trainwreck so yeah i am basically stuck with bendis until he ends his run but that's just my opinion.

    • @smashmaster521
      @smashmaster521 Před 4 lety

      @@TevyaSmolka Well, you can always just not read Bendis' comics. I know how frustrating it is to see your favorite character or team get mishandled by the writer tasked with telling good stories with them, but those characters will still be there when that writer leaves. I'm not too fond of Donny Cates' run on Thor because it seems to be going out of its way to either erase or undo everything from Jason Aaron's Thor, but I know Thor will still be around when Donny Cates leaves and he's still in Avengers, so I won't be starved for Thor. For a better example, the X-Men were being run into the ground after Secret Wars 2015 in order to push the Inhumans, so I simply avoided the book, and now the X-Men have made their grand return thanks to Jonathan Hickman.

    Maybe Jorge intended to introduce Uzumaki to Snyder, thinking it would make for a good influence on him for writing this run but Snyder read the wrong Manga and just binged read through the one featuring Uzumaki Naruto. Common mistake!

    The fly on batmans screen doesn't outright indicate that the joker is alive. That ending is a "suggested ending", which means a reader can choose between various endings (in this case jokers fate. Is he death or alive). So basically its not an ending in it of itself, because making the reader doubt about the reality of that situation definitely counts as a cliffhanger.
    The issue here is that you mention some of the justice league arc endings and you state that some of these endings really arent endings. Its kind of naive to say that because these endings have similar constructions. This shows you already made up your mind on jokers fate (while omitting the possibility of the other ending) , and ultimately deemed the death of the family arc as a concluded story, which definetely is not.
    I wanted to add that it is really hard for me to listen to you simplify a complex story. "either kill the bat family or... don't kill the bat family" this is such an immature way of looking at the themes underneath the whole run. The plot twist after Batmans decision may have resulted somewhat trope-ish, I can agree on that, but ignoring important themes of the plot makes me think that you should reevaluate your approach and appreciation towards comics.
